Milbrodale Mountain Classic champion for 2025 was Newcastle's Glen Ackroyd
Held on the weekend at Milbrodale near Singleton, the Hunter Valley Off Road Racing Association (HVORR) organised the event. It features round 3 of the NSW Off Road Championship, round 2 NSW Long Course Enduro and round 1 of the East Coast Tri Challenge Series.
Now in its 39th year, the event attracts many of the region's best off-road competitors, and this year's racing, with 62 competitors, was held in perfect weather, allowing the drivers and spectators to enjoy all the action on the track.
HVORRA supported the Matilda Gilkison Fundraiser over the weekend by running a raffle and a 50/50 club. Thanks to our racing community's generosity, $5,000.00 was raised to support Matilda and her ongoing medical and therapy needs.
Matilda is a young local girl living with Angelman Syndrome. This rare genetic condition affects the nervous system and causes severe developmental delays, seizures, and difficulties with movement and balance.
In addition to the funds raised, HVORRA donated a custom-made therapy tricycle to help assist with Matilda's physical development and therapy goals.
HVORRA also raised funds for the Bulga Whittingham Rural Fire Service and Milbrodale Public School in recognition of their ongoing support and assistance at the Milbrodale Mountain Classic.
These local organisations play a vital role in the event's safety, success, and smooth running each year. HVORRA is proud to give back and express appreciation for their dedication and contribution to the community.

Matildas; Joe Montemurro says his first camp has been intense

Matildas coach Joe Montemurro says he's balancing building the next generation of world class players while still winning now and after two games in charge is adamant it's 'looking positive' he can do both. Montemurro has seen a batch of his next-in-line talent through two games against Slovenia with more of his 33-player squad set to strut their stuff against Panama on Saturday in Bunbury in the absence of a host of first-choice players. The intensity has been high during the new coach's first camp and he conceded there are a few 'sore bodies' as he tries to drill down his style of play in a short period of time. 'But we have to send that message to make this is the level we need to be training at and this is the level they need to take away from the national team,' Montemurro said. 'We've seen a lot of talent and I'm looking forward to the next two games.' Montemurro has made his name as a club coach at some of the world's biggest but transitioning to national duties means some adaptation from him as much as players, given the limited access to them. But he's working out his system and hopes everyone involved in his first camp will take the right things away, and be better for them when they next link up. 'When you are working with players every day you can drop feed them messages and slowly add you r layers of building to where you want to go,' he said. 'When you have a short amount of time you've got to be a lot more clearer and more thoughtful with the messages when you are together and make sure they take home some ideas that we could bring back going forward. When asked about exposing 'fringe' players during the four games with the likes of Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler unavailable, Montemurro was adamant there are 'no fringe players'. 'Everyone is up for an opportunity, it's really important to send that message,' he said. 'That's why this camp has been important, to look at some players but also put in some ideas and the more players we can have a look at, the better it has been. 'It';s now giving them the base things, the three or four key things that being a Matilda is, and giving them opportunities in real scenarios. 'It's been the [perfect camp for that.' Hometown Matildas hero Sam Kerr sends fans into raptures
Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has sent her hometown fans into raptures, and some for their running shoes, after stepping out to sign memorabilia for some of the game's youngest fans in Perth. Despite having not graced the pitch in more than 18 months due to an ACL injury, Kerr was the star pregame attraction of the Matilda's first friendly against Slovenia at HBF Park. Kids packed the eastern terrace and clamoured for their soccer hero's coveted signature, calling her name from the moment she entered the arena, Kerr building anticipation with a slight delay. Kerr worked her way the length of the pitch, stopping for selfies and responding to squeaked requests from fans as her entourage ensured everyone got their moment with the beloved star. The 31-year-old's appearance had the fans in the perfect mood for kick-off against Slovenia, waves of green and gold rolling about an atmospheric HBF Park. Kerr appeared in high spirits as she continues to work her way back from injury, included in new coach Joe Montemurro's inaugural squad for four matches across WA, including two against Panama. The striker hasn't made an on-field appearance since rupturing her ACL in January last year during Women's Super League club Chelsea's summer training camp in Morocco.
