Costco shoppers urged to stop using some recalled items immediately

USA Todaya day ago
Costco shoppers may want to check their purchases for recalls.
The popular retailer has flagged nearly a dozen recalled items in recent months, from various manufacturers.
The products range from power banks to window air conditioners, some of which consumers are advised to stop using immediately.
Several items were sold through Costco Next, a program that lets shoppers purchase items directly from brands at Costco prices. Others were sold through Costco.
Here's what customers should know about recalls and returns at Coscto.
What products have been recalled recently?
Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W) — Model A1257 (Costco Next): The recall notice indicates a "potential issue involving lithium-ion battery cells from a single vendor" with minimal likelihood to malfunction. It doesn't go into detail, but Anker's website says consumers should "Stop using the device immediately."
Anker Powercore 10000 Power Bank Model A1263 (Costco Next): The recall notice says the power bank may overheat, posing a potential fire risk. Anker's website says consumers should "Immediately stop using the product."
Danby 8k U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner: The recall notice says units may not drain water quickly enough, which can lead to mold, and advises consumers to "Stop using it immediately." The Consumer Product Safety Commission notes these air conditioners were across various retailers under different brands: Midea, Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr. Cool, Perfect Aire and Sea Breeze.
Midea U-Shape Window AC's (Item #'s 1572673, 1657921, 1677429, 1768985, 2677450, and 2677429): The recall notice says pooled water in the unit may lead to mold, which can trigger respiratory issues or other infections.
Michelin Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric Tires Size 185/60R15C: The recall notice says the tires fail to meet a federal safety standard for tire endurance, and "chunks of tread rubber may detach from the shoulder block."
Bridgestone Blizzak 6 Tires Size 235/40R19: The recall notice says these tires are missing a Department of Transportation certification seal, and while they comply with performance requirements, DOT has found that tires without the seal may be used inappropriately, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
BowFlex Adjustable Dumbbells: The recall notice cites reports of weight plates dislodging from the handle during use, posing risk of impact. Consumers are advised to "immediately stop using" these.
Topo Chico Mineral Water Glass 18pk - Select Lot Code - Select Locations in Texas and Louisiana: The recall notice says the water may be contaminated with pseudomonas, which occur naturally in water sources like mineral water and may pose minor health consequences in people with weakened immune systems.
Fresh and Ready Foods Prepared Sandwiches and Salads (Multiple Items) AZ, CA, NV and WA Business Center Locations Only: The recall notice says select items with a use by date of May 11 may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and should not be consumed. The organism can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in young children, "frail or elderly people" and others with weaker immune systems. It may also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.
Igloo 90 Qt Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler: The recall notice says there's a risk of the tow handle pinching consumers' fingertips against the cooler, leading to "fingertip amputation and crushing hazards." Consumers are urged to "please immediately stop using the cooler."
Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker + Air Fryer: The recall notice cites reports of pressure cooker lids being able to be opened while pressurized, leading to severe burns. Consumers are advised not to use the pressure-cooking function until they get a replacement lid.

Where can I find a list of recalls?
To find Costco's latest recalls, visit the Product Recalls section of its website. Past recalls are also archived online.
Consumers can check for other recalls across retailers and manufacturers on the websites of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, U.S. Food & Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. All of those sites have searchable databases. CPSC, FDA and USDA also list recalls in reverse chronological order.
USA TODAY also maintains a database of recalled items.
How long do I have to return at Costco?
Costco accepts most returns without time limits, though there are some exceptions.
Recalls are separate from standard returns. Consumers should check recall notices for next steps on specific items.

Amazon, Walmart, Target, Costco roll out mega summer sales

Call it Prime Day, or Black Friday in July, but this week is expected to mark a major moment for summer spending. Why it matters: Billions of dollars are projected to be spent at Amazon and other retailers that are running competing sales. The summer sales period kicks off back-to-school shopping, and some bargain-conscious consumers are expected to get a jump on holiday shopping. "Value and essentials will outperform premium as shoppers focus on deals for everyday items, especially back-to-school and replenishment," Mike Feldman, senior vice president of commerce at Flywheel, told Axios. State of play: Retailers have warned that some seasonal events could be affected by tariffs, with shortages and higher prices possible. "I think people are just being a bit more conservative in general, but then splurging where they can," Coresight Research CEO Deborah Weinswig told Axios. "The consumer is being very intentional." Jacob Bennett, CEO and co-founder of small business banking platform Crux Analytics, tells Axios that some Amazon sellers pulled out of Prime Day because of tariffs. "Small businesses importing goods are getting hit twice, first by tariff costs, then by Prime Day debt on top," Bennett said. What time does Amazon Prime Day start? Amazon's 11th Prime Day starts 12:01am PDT Tuesday and goes through Friday, July 11. Amazon doubled the length of Prime Day from two days to four — the longest sale in the event's history. "Extending Prime Day could also be a strategic move against the rising tariffs on goods from China," Jess Meher, SVP at Loop Returns, told Axios. Zoom in: During the sale, Prime members get access to millions of deals "across more than 35 categories." Best Buy Black Friday in July 2025 Best Buy's"Black Friday in July event" began Monday and continues through Sunday. The retailer is calling it one of its "biggest sale events of the summer." The online-only sale has savings of up to 50% on patio and garden, TVs and tech, home and kitchen, everyday essentials and more, the retailer told Axios. Costco Member Savings Days Costco's five-day sale started Monday and runs through Friday, July 11. The sale is online-only and while supplies last, the wholesale club said on its website. The sale comes a week after Costco launched early hours for executive members. Clubs are also staying open an hour later on Saturdays for all members. Kohl's Summer Cyber Deals Kohl's four-day sale — Summer Cyber Deals — is doubled from two days in 2024 and includes free shipping on all orders, the department store chain said. The sale is from Monday through Thursday, with new daily deals each day in-store and online. Shoppers can earn $10 in Kohl's Cash for every $50 spent during the sale. Target Circle Week deals 2025 Target Circle Week started Sunday and even earlier for members of the paid Target Circle 360 program. Target's sale continues through Saturday, July 12. Additional deals were unveiled in the weekly ad. Walmart Deals 2025 starts early for Walmart+ Walmart+ members got early access to the world's largest retailer's sale at 7 p.m. ET Monday. 6 products you should always buy at Costco — and 4 you should avoid, according to an expert

In a time where many Canadians are feeling the weight of the high cost of living, some are turning to Costco to find the products they need at an affordable price. While most grocery stores carry approximately 30,000 stock keeping units (SKUs), Costco warehouses only carry about 4,000 SKUs. It's part of its strategy to streamline the sale of high quality products; by limiting the variety of products it sells, Costco is able to negotiate lower prices with vendors. However, stepping into Costco can sometimes feel overwhelming. With everything from groceries to furniture, how can shoppers know what items are worth buying and what is better to pass on? Tina Chow is a Canadian content creator who has amassed a large social media following for her account, Costco Lovers Canada. Her videos about Costco products have garnered millions of views online and there's no shortage of new products for her to share and review. Chow spoke to Yahoo Canada to share her expertise on the best products to pick up on your next Costco run, and what you should leave behind. Chow stated that over-the-counter medications are one of her 'key' items that she picks up at Costco under the store's private label brand, Kirkland Signature. Costco controls the sourcing, production and retail price of Kirkland Signature products, which are usually more affordable than name brand competitors. A package of Kirkland Signature ibuprofen is currently priced at $13, and includes two bottles containing 500 tablets per bottle. Kirkland Signature extra strength acetaminophen is also on sale for $16 and is available over-the-counter. For those who take these medications frequently, these are worthwhile deals that will last. While Costco is known for its low-price products, they also carry a variety of high-end products that can help you save on your next high-end designer purchase. An example that Chow lists is a women's Burberry Kensington Heritage trench coat, which is currently priced at $2,400 on the Costco website, compared to its full price of $3,290 on the official Burberry website. When making pricey purchases like the highly coveted Dyson Airwrap for $800, Costco shoppers can take advantage of the store's return policy. Although there are some restrictions, a majority of products can be returned at anytime with or without the original receipt. If you're looking to invest in clothing or designer items, it's helpful to know you can get a full refund at anytime. Costco is a great place to shop and save on personal care items, like razor blades, at a significantly lower price than its competitors. Currently, Costco is selling Gillette Fusion5 razor cartridges containing 18 cartridges for $65, compared to the $109 price that Walmart is selling them for. That's a 40 per cent difference in price, and those savings add up over time. Costco carries a diversity of skincare products of well known brands like Clarins, the celeb go-to La Mer and K Beauty available for purchase online. Chow said shoppers can also find La Roche Posay products behind counters at select Costcos. Costco's flexible return policy allows shoppers to try out skincare products and bring them back if they find the product unsuitable for their skin type. Chow said Costco's rotisserie chicken is one of one go-to products that makes an affordable, healthy and versatile option for meals. 'I will drive to Costco for that chicken because it's better priced; it's bigger, it's juicer,' said Chow. Currently, one 1.2kg Kirkland Signature seasoned rotisserie chicken is priced for $9, and can be delivered to your doorstep through Costco's same-day delivery service. A sought-after option among shoppers is Rummo pasta, a product that Chow said people 'flipped out over' when it hit Costco shelves. Online, a Rummo variety pack containing six packs of pasta is priced for $20. The Costco website is currently limiting shoppers to purchasing two units per purchase, showing its popularity. Another option available is Welth protein rotini pasta, containing 22 grams of protein per 100 grams, and alongside being gluten-free is also halal, non GMO and vegan. There are three flavours available; it's original flavour, spinach and beetroot. Although there are plenty of products that make a trip to Costco worthwhile, there are certain items that you might want to avoid adding to your shopping cart. Let's take a look at inventory that may be best to leave behind. While Costco's Tire Centre can be convenient for some, there are a few downsides to the service. 'I won't do my tire stuff at Costco, I do that at local branches because I know you can save a bit of money,' said Chow. She also acknowledges that the waitlist to get tires fixed at Costco is quite lengthy since 'people are constantly trying to get appointments,' which leads to prolonged wait times. In addition, Costco's customer service page for their Tire Centre states that a tire order typically arrives in approximately five to 10 business days from the date of purchase, which can be a lengthy wait for an urgent fix or replacement. Costco's Tire Center page also states that tires are only available to be installed on Costco-purchased tires only, which can be a tricky work-around for those looking to use these services. While buying products in bulk is Costco's bread and butter, there are instances where it is safer to not buy certain products en masse, one of which being sunscreen. Chow particularly pointed to Boo Bamboo Kids Natural Mineral Sunscreen as an example, where currently a package of three bottles consisting of 214g each for a price of $50. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sunscreen usually expires after three years and should not be used after its expiration date. Health Canada requires visible expiration dates on sunscreen products available over-the-counter. While it is a product that is essential in the summertime, buying excessive amounts of a product could be more of a waste. 'I've got a ton of sunscreens, but are we really going to use that much?' Chow said. If you are looking for healthy options and prevent spoilage, it might be better to pass on packaged salads during your next Costco trip. The portion size sold can be a downside to bulk shopping. Not every household may benefit from the portion sizes of pre-packaged salads or produce in general. In some cases, people might be saving money — but having their products go to waste. Depending on your needs, Chow said it might make more sense to buy salad as-needed at your local grocery store rather than wait for a trip to Costco. Also, the kinds of salad available can be limited to what the stock in your location has, so there is no guarantee that a kind of salad you once bought is still present. Chow said butter is another product she usually tends to avoid purchasing at Costco because of how much product comes with one purchase. However, if you have a large family or do a lot of baking, Costco might be an economical option. It all depends on your needs.
