[SINGAPORE] Gabriel Magalhaes believes Arsenal's return to Singapore, their first since 2018, marks a pivotal moment to build the foundations for a season that he's convinced will deliver trophies to the London-based football club. The Gunners (Arsenal's nickname) will take part in this week's Singapore Festival of Football, playing two major pre-season matches at the 55,000-seater National Stadium. The week-long festival, presented by TEG Sport, is the first large-scale international football event hosted in Singapore since the inaugural edition in 2023. First up is a clash against Italian giants AC Milan on Wednesday (Jul 23, 7.30 pm kickoff, Singapore time), followed by an open training session two days later before a showdown against fellow English Premier League (EPL) side Newcastle United on July 27. Arsenal will then continue their Asia tour with a stop in Hong Kong to face North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the new Kai Tak Sports Park on July 31. Since joining the Gunners in 2020 from Ligue 1 side Lille, Gabi – as he is affectionately known to his teammates and fans – has become a key figure in defence, known for his physicality, tactical awareness and emerging leadership. He has made 210 appearances in all competitions to date, becoming a cornerstone of the Gunners' backline while also scoring 20 goals. The 27-year-old has formed a formidable partnership with Frenchman William Saliba in Arsenal's central defence, and the Gunners have conceded the fewest goals in the EPL over the past two seasons. Magalhaes recently reaffirmed his commitment to the club by signing a new contract that will last until 2029, citing his firm belief in the team's trajectory. 'I've been at the club for five years now, and I've seen how much the club has grown. I am here to win titles – big titles,' he said. Stefanie Sun made an anonymous donation to flood victims in the Chinese province of Guizhou through Chinese singer Han Hong's foundation, the latter recently revealed on social media. She always quietly and warmly conveys love," wrote Han. "We accept this kindness and are forever grateful! Thank you to my dear friend Stefanie Sun the teacher, see you on stage." According to Shin Min Daily News, Rongjiang county and Congjiang county in Guizhou's Qiandongnan prefecture suffered severe floods in June, with many houses destroyed. The Hanhong Love Charity Foundation then started relief efforts, with plans to donate 2 million yuan (S$360,000 dollars). It then received an anonymous donation with the instruction: "Give priority to the elderly, children and pregnant women." Han later confirmed that the donor was Sun, and decided to "expose" it. "Thank you... but I won't respond to the above!" said Sun, 46, in response to Shin Min's queries. Sun has reportedly made multiple donations to charity. When heavy rains struck Henan in 2021, a volunteer revealed that a "Ms Sun from Singapore" donated 600,000 yuan through an anonymous account, designated for purchasing speedboats and drinking water. Since 2004, Sun has helped build a shelter for poor children in the Indian city of Kolkata. For the past 20 years, she has also sponsored the education of many students in Yunnan and Gansu from primary school to university. Five libraries in remote mountainous areas are reportedly named after Sun, who helped build them.
