Olympic champion Zheng to face Siniakova first at Wimbledon
London, June 27 (UNI) China's Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen will start this year's Wimbledon Championships campaign with first-round opponent Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic as
the main draw was revealed here on Friday.
Zheng, 22, reached the third round in her first appearance at Wimbledon, but failed to pass the opening round in the last two years.
As the fifth seed in the women's singles main draw, Zheng will meet Siniakova on Monday. Siniakova, with 10 women's doubles Grand Slam titles in her pocket, reached the third round in the women's singles event at Wimbledon three times.
She entered the Berlin Open through qualifiers last week, but lost to former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the round of last 16.
Zheng reached her first career grass-court semifinal at the Queen's Club Championships earlier this month, but withdrew from the Berlin Open due to a neck injury.
Zheng's compatriot Wang Xinyu, who reached the Berlin Open final by beating newly-crowned French Open champion Coco Gauff, will face 15th seeded Czech Karolina Muchova in the first round.
The 23-year-old Wang stunned American ace Jessica Pegula in the second round at last year's Wimbledon before reaching the fourth round for the first time.
Meanwhile, the world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus will play against Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine.
Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova will face Filipino rookie Alexandra Eala.
In the men's singles main draw, the world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is going to lock horns with his Italian compatriot Luca Nardi, while defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will meet Italian veteran Fabio Fognini in the first round.

'At the same time I'm confident in myself that hopefully I can inspire people like Andy has done. 'I'll keep trying to show my best tennis out there, to hopefully present myself as the player and the person I want to be.' Murray has been a useful resource for Draper since the 23-year-old burst onto the scene with a run to the US Open last 16 in 2023. And Draper won't be shy about asking Murray for advice on how to deal with the Wimbledon spotlight. The draw seeds Draper to meet seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic in the last eight, world number Jannik Sinner in the semifinals and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final. 'I haven't looked at that at all. I look at my first round. I respect every person in the draw,' he said. 'Obviously you guys have asked me a lot about the pressure and all that sort of stuff. I'm not thinking about that at all.' Draper's victory at Indian Wells in March was his first ATP Masters 1000 title, building on his maiden Grand Slam semifinal appearance at last year's US Open. After a rocky spell when he struggled to adapt to the gruelling demands of the ATP Tour, Draper now feels comfortable on and off the court. 'I think maturity, taking responsibility for my actions. When I was younger, it's tough. My friends went to university. I suppose they had an extended period of their childhood or their time to have fun,' he said. 'Sometimes you want to just take a break, but you can't in a sport like tennis. I would say that's the most challenging thing about being on the tour. 'For me it was a process and was definitely something I really struggled with at first. I suppose just growing up.'

Telangana, June 28 (UNI) Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen started her campaign with a clinical 4:1 win over Uttar Pradesh's Rashi Sharma in the 48–51kg category while Haryana's Anjali got the better of World Championships bronze medallist Manisha Moun in the 57-60 kg category in the Elite Women's Boxing Tournament at Hyderabad's Saroornagar Indoor Stadium. Organised by the Telangana Boxing Federation under the aegis of the Boxing Federation of India(BFI) and the Sports Authority of Telangana, the tournament brings together top-tier names and emerging prospects from across the country. The event, running from June 27 to July 1, features 15 participating units- 12 from the recent Elite Nationals, host Telangana, the SAI NCOE Combined team, and the TOPS Talent & Development squad. Other notable Day 1 results included win for 2023 world champion Nitu (Haryana) in 45- 48kg over Rajani Singh (UP) 5:0 while Telangana's Yashi Sharma defeated K Monisha (Tamil Nadu) 5:0 in the 60–65kg category. Paul Pogba Signs For Monaco, Hoping To Revive Career
Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco to return to football after a near two-year absence, the club announced on Saturday. The 2018 World Cup winner has made only 12 appearances across the last three seasons due to injuries, an 18-month doping ban and an extortion case in which he was the victim. Pogba failed a drugs test in August 2023 after a match for Juventus and has been free to return to football since March, although his contract at the Italian giants had been terminated last year. The midfielder will now play club football in Ligue 1 for the first time in his professional career. "I am determined to get back on the pitch, mentally ready, physically ready, it's just a matter of time," the 32-year-old told French television last weekend. Pogba played in the Le Havre youth team before signing for Manchester United in 2009. He made only a handful of first-team appearances for the three-time European champions before signing for Juventus in 2012. Pogba won four consecutive Serie A titles in Turin before rejoining United for a then-world record 105 million euros ($123 million). He moved back to Juventus three years ago but struggled with a series of injuries. In 2024, his brother Mathias was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for his role in a plot to extort 13 million euros from Pogba in 2022. Pogba has scored 11 goals in 91 appearances for the France national team, playing a starring role and scoring in their World Cup final victory over Croatia seven years ago. His new club Monaco will play in the Champions League next season after finishing third in Ligue 1 last term.
