City engr found dead on ship in UAE suffered heat stroke: Authorities
Lucknow: Lucknow engineer Anurag Tiwari (33), who was onboard a jack-up platform to commission the vessel in UAE, had died of heatstroke, the ship crew management firm, Synergy Ship Arabia (SSA), has informed the family. SSA is part of Synergy Marine Group owned by Kerala-born Captain Rajesh Unni. The deceased worked as '3rd engineer' for SSA and was found unconscious on June 29 afternoon onboard the jack-up vessel which was anchored in Sharjah port. Mortal remains of Anurag were cremated in Lucknow on July 5. According to the forensic medicine report issued by UAE's medico-legal department, "The death was due to pathological causes, attributed to an underlying condition compounded by acute cardiac and respiratory failure." The autopsy report was shared to the family by Ashirvad Kamath, the crew manager for SSA via an email. The SSA crew manager in the same email wrote, "The forensic report identified heat stroke as the cause of death, resulting in multi-organ failure." Speaking to TOI, Anil Tiwari, father of the deceased, said, "Neither the autopsy report nor any communication from SSA or UAE authorities has ascertained, as to where exactly Anurag died and when. There is complete silence from SSA on queries which we had posted to them via email." "We suspect that SOP (standard operating procedure) was not followed while commissioning of JANA 505 by SSA crew management. No one else went with Anurag in the poorly ventilated engine room, where he came in contact with toxic gases which had developed due to extreme hot weather and humidity. Further, we believe that the crew, after knowing that Anurag had collapsed in the engine room, took time to reach and evacuate him. There was systematic failure of SSA crew in emergency response. We are exploring legal means to prosecute the company," said Anil, who is former Lesa Trans Gomti chief. JANA 505 is a newly built jack-up accommodation platform for an offshore project to explore oil and gas. The Panama flag vessel was built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation – Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant Company Limited. The vessel is owned by Saudi Arabian conglomerate Jana Marine Service Company (subsidiary of Rashed Al-Rashed & Sons Group).

Lucknow engineer joins ship crew in Sharjah, found dead hours later
Lucknow: Hours after joining his crew onboard a commercial ship in Sharjah in UAE, a 33-year-old engineer from Lucknow was found mysteriously dead on the vessel. Anurag Tiwari , a '3rd engineer' in the shipping line, was found dead on June 29 afternoon. An alumnus of St Francis College, Lucknow, Anurag was the eldest son of Anil Tiwari, a former UPPCL officer. Anil Tiwari on Thursday sought help from external affairs minister S Jaishankar to bring his son's body home. "@@DrSJaishankar Sir, my son Anurag Tiwari (Passport: W4768296), hired by Synergy Ship Arabia, boarded vessel JANA 505 at Sharjah, UAE on 29.06.2025. He died the same day. No clear cause of death, no help from the company. Kindly help with urgent repatriation of his body," Tiwari posted. Anurag had joined his team in Sharjah on June 28 and even spoke to his father over a video call. "During video call, Anurag informed me that commissioning of Jana 505 was a challenging task, and there was a sense of anxiety among teammates. The weather was hot, but he was mentally and physically fit for the task," Anil told TOI on Thursday. The information was communicated by Jana Marine and Synergy Ship Arabia. " Anil said, "ASPL team informed me over phone that Anurag fainted on deck during duty. He was brought to the vessel bridge where he was administered CPR. There is a contradiction in the information shared with us as the deck and engine room are not the same." "I have contacted the embassy in UAE via e-mail and X (formerly Twitter) to repatriate my son's body. I want UAE authorities to find the cause of my son's death," added Anil. Anurag was a six-time gold medallist in swimming. Father of a 3-yr-old son, he was planning to head to the UK after the commissioning of the vessel to pursue an academic course in shipping. Overspeeding cause of 90% road accidents in Tripura, says DGP
Agartala: Tripura director general of police (DGP) Anurag on Wednesday highlighted the alarming trend of road traffic fatalities in the state, revealing that 90% of road accidents are caused by overspeeding and that more people die in accidents than in murder cases. Speaking at an event at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala, where 16 ambulances were distributed and the Vehicle Location Tracking and Monitoring System was virtually inaugurated, the DGP said road safety remains a critical concern. "On an average, one person dies every 3.5 minutes in road accidents in India. In Tripura, two people died every three days last year. This year, it has improved slightly, with two deaths occurring every four days," Anurag said. "Thanks to a focused road safety drive, Tripura's performance is now better than the national average," he said. The DGP said the police and traffic units are adopting the '4E' approach — Education, Engineering, Enforcement and Emergency Services — to enhance road safety. Highlighting the progress, he said road traffic accident (RTA) deaths in Tripura were 13% lower in 2023 compared to the previous year. In the current year, up to June, RTA deaths have declined by 30%, and total accidents have dropped by 10%. "Over-speeding is the main cause of road accidents. While it accounts for 71% of accidents nationwide, in Tripura, it contributes to 90% of the cases. Other contributing factors include driving under the influence, poor vehicle maintenance and violation of traffic rules," he said. The DGP stressed the importance of public cooperation in adhering to traffic rules to reduce fatalities and injuries. He noted with concern that 66% of accident victims are youth between 18 and 45 years of age. "Last year Tripura recorded 226 deaths from road accidents, while 116 people were murdered. Clearly, accidental deaths significantly outnumber those caused by crime," Anurag said.
