Sonali Bendre on disappointment with Duplicate: Grey role became one-dimensional

India Today02-06-2025

Actor Sonali Bendre Behl, in a recent interview, shared her disappointment with the film 'Duplicate', in which she starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. She revealed that she found her role in the film to be very one-dimensional. She also recalled working with Salman Khan in 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sonali Bendre talked about her experience in 'Duplicate'. She said, "It was a film that a lot of people talk about. But this is one of those films that really helped shape the way I wanted my character to be. The idea was to have beautiful grey shades in this character, but it kind of started becoming very one-dimensional. I think it became more of a secondary character when I got onto it.'advertisementShe added, 'When I did 'Zakhm', I knew it wasn't the main character, I knew Pooja had that role. But it was a beautiful story with Bhatt Sahab, and I just wanted to be a part of it, so I did it. But when 'Duplicate' was concerned, I was supposed to have had an equal amount. And at that point, it started to feel like it wasn't the same kind of role anymore. So at that time, I did start to feel like I wasn't getting my due. But I think eventually, it all evened out, and I did get my due.
In the same interview, upon seeing an old photo from the sets of 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' featuring Salman Khan, she laughed and remarked, "Am I not pouring tea or milk here?"advertisementShe also talked about how Salman used to make faces and tease her while she was giving close-up shots. "We were fighting all the time. I should ask Salman about it then. Because whenever I was giving close-ups, Salman would be making faces at me. And I would get so pissed off that I would say, 'What the hell?', she said.Sonali also shared how difficult it was to shoot in the heavy golden ghagra she wore in the film. 'It weighed around 20 kilos and had heavy zari work, the fake jewellery I wore gave me allergies and rashes everywhere. To take a turn in that ghagra itself took 4 beats more,' she recalled. On the work front, Sonali Bendre was last seen in a small role in Remo D'Souza's film 'Be Happy'. She made her OTT debut in 2022 with the web series 'The Broken News'. The show was loved by the audience and came back with a second season last year.Trending Reel

Did you know, not Shah Rukh Khan but Salman Khan shot for THIS romantic scene with Aishwarya Rai in Devdas after breakup?

A surprising fact from Devdas surfaces. Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai's ex, stepped in for Shah Rukh Khan during the 'Morey Piya' song shoot. He demonstrated how Devdas removes a thorn from Paro's foot. This unplanned moment was captured on camera. It became their last on-screen appearance together. Their romance ended after a troubling incident. Aishwarya later married Abhishek Bachchan. Here's a surprising behind-the-scenes twist from Devdas you probably didn't know. While Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai 's chemistry in the iconic song Morey Piya left fans spellbound, one of the most intimate scenes from the track—where Devdas removes a thorn from Paro's foot—wasn't filmed with Shah Rukh at all. It was actually Salman Khan who performed the gesture on set. Despite their rocky breakup, the moment was captured and made it into the film, marking the last time the former couple ever shared screen space. In her book, Anupama Chopra revealed that during the shoot of the Morey Piya song in Devdas, Salman was present on set while Shah Rukh and Aishwarya filmed a romantic scene where Devdas delicately removes a thorn from Paro's foot. The scene, meant to be intimate and sensuous, was shot in close-up without showing the actors' faces. Unexpectedly, Salman stepped in during the shoot and began demonstrating to Shah Rukh how to perform the gesture—despite his strained equation with Aishwarya at the time. Interestingly, Sanjay Leela Bhansali kept the camera rolling while Salman demonstrated the scene by gently removing a thorn from Aishwarya's foot—marking an unplanned but emotional moment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo That brief interaction ended up being their last time on a film set together. The close-up shot of Salman and Aishwarya was eventually included in the final cut of Devdas, making those few seconds in Morey Piya the last time the former couple shared screen space. Salman and Aishwarya's romance blossomed during the filming of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, but their relationship soon took a turbulent turn. According to senior film journalist Hanif Zaveri on the Meri Saheli podcast, the two were serious about each other until a troubling incident occurred—Salman reportedly caused a scene outside Aishwarya's residence, banging on her door when she didn't respond. Following that episode, Aishwarya ended the relationship and was later rumoured to be involved with Vivek Oberoi . Though Hanif Zaveri claimed that the rumours of Aishwarya dating Vivek were untrue and allegedly fabricated by Vivek for publicity, the aftermath of her breakup with Salman remained widely discussed. Several reports alleged that Salman had been a controlling and obsessive partner, with instances of harassment and stalking. He was also reportedly involved in Aishwarya's ouster from Chalte Chalte, where Shah Rukh Khan replaced her. Years later, Aishwarya found stability and married Abhishek Bachchan . Salman, meanwhile, remains a bachelor, despite a few high-profile relationships since.

Aamir Khan found a friend in Salman while battling depression: Became less judgemental

Aamir Khan, recently hosted a special screening of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, a coming-of-age sports comedy directed by RS Prasanna, in Mumbai. The event saw a rare but heartwarming sight where Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan showed up in support of their longtime this wasn't the first time the trio shared the same screening room recently. Reformed OTT Release Date: When and where to watch Elsa Guedj & Éric Elmosnino's French dramedy

Reformed OTT Release Date: If you're in the mood for something meaningful but also a little quirky, Reformed might just be your next binge. This French dramedy, which has quietly made waves in Europe, is finally coming to Indian screens. It drops on JioHotstar from July 9, and honestly, it's a breath of fresh air compared to most of the overdone dramas we see on OTT these days. What is Reformed all about? At the centre of Reformed is Léa, a young woman in her late 20s who's just become a rabbi, yes, a female rabbi in modern-day France. That's already a big deal, but the show doesn't turn her into some perfect, polished saint. She's awkward, unsure, sometimes funny without trying to be, and constantly juggling her duties at the synagogue with her own personal mess- like living with her grumpy atheist dad, or helping people with birth, death, grief, love, and everything in between. The actress playing Léa, Elsa Guedj, is outstanding. In fact, her performance was so good, she won Best Actress at this year's Séries Mania Festival, one of Europe's top TV festivals. The show is loosely based on the life and book of Delphine Horvilleur, who's actually one of the few female rabbis in France. So there's a real-life connection here, which adds to how grounded everything feels. More about Reformed The creators, Noé Debré and Benjamin Charbit, didn't go the preachy route. They've told a very human story that just happens to take place in a Jewish community. Each episode is about 30 minutes, and it gives you real, everyday dilemmas. There's one episode about a boy's circumcision that stirs debate in the community. Another about a terminally ill woman who wants to be cremated, which isn't exactly accepted in Jewish tradition. Reformed's supporting cast includes Éric Elmosnino, Manu Payet, Noémie Lvovsky, Solal Bouloudnine, Anouk Grinberg, Suzy Bemba and Lionel Dray among others.
