Aamir Khan, recently hosted a special screening of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, a coming-of-age sports comedy directed by RS Prasanna, in Mumbai. The event saw a rare but heartwarming sight where Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan showed up in support of their longtime contemporary.Interestingly, this wasn't the first time the trio shared the same screening room recently. Aamir revealed that both Salman and Shah Rukh had earlier attended a preview of 'Loveyapa', which marked the big-screen debut of Aamir's son, Junaid Khan.advertisementDespite the camaraderie on display today, Aamir admitted in an interview with India Today's sister channel The Lallantop that the trio didn't start out as close friends. Reflecting on his personal struggles in the early 2000s, post his separation from Reena Dutta, Aamir said, 'I was in a very dark space emotionally. I used to drink heavily and isolate myself. Salman dropped by one day for dinner. I don't even remember how it came about, and we ended up having a deep conversation that went on for hours. That's when our friendship really began.'
Their first collaboration, the cult comedy 'Andaz Apna Apna' (1994), had its share of friction. 'Back then, I used to get annoyed because Salman would often show up late, and I felt things weren't going as planned. I thought we couldn't be friends,'advertisementAamir confessed. 'But meeting him again years later made me realise we all have flaws. We make mistakes. That understanding changed me - I became less judgemental.'Speaking of the never-ending comparisons between the three Khans, Aamir took it in stride. 'It's natural. Whether it's cricket or cinema, people always compare those at the top. I understand the curiosity,' he said.In a lighter moment, Aamir also poked fun at his relatively quieter fanbase outside his Bandra residence. 'When our home was under renovation, Kiran (Rao) and I stayed in another building on Carter Road where Jackie Shroff also lived. One day I saw a huge crowd outside and thought, 'Finally, people have come to see me!' I happily went downstairs to greet them, only to realise they were there for Tiger Shroff,' he said, laughing. From professional rivalries to unexpected friendships, Aamir Khan's reflections offered a glimpse into the human side of stardom — filled with insecurity, connection, and plenty of humility.- EndsYou May Also Like

He added, "They tried very hard, saying they'd pay me whatever I wanted, or help me with any work I needed done. I said I still wouldn't come. Then they changed their tone and said, 'Now you have to come because it has been announced there and it's become a matter of prestige.' That was the last meeting we had. I told them, 'You've been meeting me for over a month now and I've told you from the start that I won't come. I still won't come. Lekin aap bahut takatwar log hain, aap jis din chahe aa sakte hain, chahe mujhe peetiye ya sar pe maariye, haath pair bandh ke kahin bhi le jaaiye (But you are very powerful people. If you want, you can come anytime — beat me up, hit me on the head, tie me up and take me wherever you want). You can take me forcibly, but I will not willingly go.'" Lekin maine unhe ek hi jawab diya tha ki main apni zindagi jaise jee raha hoon waise hi jeena chahta hoon aur main nahin jaa raha hoon wahan pe (Yes, I was afraid. I had two young children. My parents were very worried — they asked me why I was doing this when these are such dangerous people. But I gave them only one answer: 'I want to live my life on my own terms, the way I always have — and I'm not going there')."
