Kingston D500S is world's first and only TAA-Compliant

Kingston Digital Europe Co LLP, the flash memory affiliate of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., a world leader in memory products and technology solutions, today announced its award-winning Kingston IronKey™ D500S hardware-encrypted USB flash drive has received NIST FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation. Designed and assembled by Kingston in California, D500S is the world's first and only FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validated drive with a TAA-compliant and trusted supply chain. When the IronKey D500S was being designed in 2020, the business goal was to make it a best-in-class hardware-encrypted drive with XTS-AES 256-bit encryption and the newest NIST security standard, FIPS 140-3 Level 3. But an additional goal was to also go beyond TAA-compliance, which only verifies the legally declared Country Of Origin (COO). The D500S was designed to ensure that all its critical components and assembly processes fully meet TAA and CMMC compliance requirements. Critical drive components include the following: Secure Microprocessor managing all encryption and authentication processes Digitally signed firmware for the Secure Microprocessor Drive software launcher, which includes multi-password authentication and feature setting NAND Flash storage chips Assembly of the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) with all critical components Encasing the PCB assembly and injecting epoxy in the rugged casing to comply with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 anti-tampering protection All critical drive components were directly sourced by Kingston from TAA-compliant and trusted suppliers and stocked in the secured Kingston Manufacturing Center in California, USA to ensure drive assembly is done in tightly controlled, engineering supervised processes. D500S will also have matching internal and external serial numbers for asset tracking and endpoint management. 'We went over-and-above competitors in the USB data protection industry to ensure that the IronKey D500S is an unrivaled best-in-class FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified drive for securing data-at-rest and meeting stringent government and military standards worldwide,' said Oscar Escayola Kaloudis, EMEA Flash Business Manager and Sales Manager DACH, Middle East and Africa, Greece and Israel for Kingston, EMEA. 'With a trusted supply chain supporting CMMC and TAA compliance, along with design and assembly at Kingston's USA headquarters, D500S stands out as the most security-focused USB drive on the market—delivering unmatched assurance for customers who require the highest level of trusted data protection.' D500S also has the industry's first dual-partition option on a hardware-encrypted USB drive with multiple passwords. This allows Admin to create two custom-sized secure partitions for Admin and User, for a Hidden File Store that can be used to provision files to the User partition as needed. When using untrusted systems or sharing the drive, the Hidden File Stores keep data secure and invisible unless accessed through proper authentication. Other advanced features include the capabilities of an Admin to set a Global Read-Only mode until reset, as well as to enter a Crypto-Erase password that will destroy the data and reset the drive to prevent unauthorized access in compromising situations. D500S also features a rugged zinc casing which meets military-grade shock, vibration and drop test specifications1 with IP67 dust and water resistance rating2. D500S offers fully customizable features and functionality to meet your organization's specific needs, with capacities up to 512GB3 and backed by a 5-year warranty and free technical support. Bitcoin Breaches $120K as Funds Pour In

TDT | Manama Bitcoin has crossed the USD 120,000 mark for the first time, propelled by a wave of institutional investment that analysts say is driving the first truly mature bull market in the cryptocurrency's history. Bitcoin hitting USD 120,000 means one bitcoin now trades for that amount in US dollars, reflecting its rising market value as a digital asset. Fuelled by robust inflows into exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and strategic allocations by large public and private institutions, the world's largest cryptocurrency is now firmly positioning itself as a mainstream asset class. Institutional traction Josh Gilbert, Market Analyst at eToro, said the ongoing surge reflects a shift from retail speculation to structural demand. 'Institutional adoption is growing, and this is the first real bull market where institutional participation is front and centre,' he said, pointing to major corporations adding bitcoin to their treasuries and sovereign funds entering the space through regulated investment products. Retirement plans, sovereign wealth funds, and asset managers are now actively investing in bitcoin ETFs, making multi-billion-dollar entries into a market defined by finite supply. Gilbert added that this persistent demand is a key driver behind bitcoin's sustained rally. Macro conditions align Loose global monetary policy and rising money supply continue to make a compelling case for bitcoin's appeal as a decentralised, fixed-supply asset. Gilbert explained that in such conditions, bitcoin is 'cementing itself as an alternative store of value.' While the crypto market has seen dramatic climbs in previous cycles, the current bull run is distinguished by its fundamental strength and breadth of participation, rather than hype. Retail yet to peak Despite the record prices, analysts believe the retail segment is still far from saturation. Gilbert noted that mainstream adoption remains in its early stages and that bitcoin is still an emerging component in diversified portfolios. 'This is just the beginning of widespread adoption, seamless integration with traditional finance, and robust regulatory frameworks,' he said. With increased trust, improving regulations, and global financial integration, analysts expect the upward momentum to continue well into the second half of 2025.

Manual gearboxes are history, says Hyundai's performance chief

TDT | agencies The era of manual gearboxes is effectively over, according to Tyone Johnson, Managing Director of Hyundai's Europe Technical Centre in Germany. In a recent interview, Johnson praised the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N for delivering unmatched driving pleasure and claimed, 'Nobody wants manual gearboxes anymore.' He also noted that modern buyers have little interest in manual handbrakes or analogue dials. Johnson believes EVs like the Ioniq 5 N will eventually win over even reluctant enthusiasts, despite their attachment to petrol power. He argued the internal combustion engine's decline shouldn't be mourned, calling most combustion performance cars 'miles away – a disappointment' compared to the Ioniq 5 N. Acknowledging the emotional appeal of traditional cars, he said, 'I understand some people want the sounds, vibrations — those sensory inputs help the brain understand what's going on.' As a result, artificial sounds are now integrated into EVs to mimic the feedback of combustion engines. In his view, EVs have progressed more in a decade than combustion cars did in a century. With a background in Ford and Jaguar's F1 and rally programmes — including the 1992 Mustang Shelby — Johnson said: 'I'm a performance guy. If you want to go fast, there's nothing better than an EV. I don't understand the nostalgia.'
