Women police personnel are an integral part of policing in T.N.: police department
Women activists, educationists, lawyers, academicians, and writers had issued a statement expressing shock and condemnation over the advisory. They said it was widely reported in the media and seemed to have been issued in the backdrop of the custodial death of Ajith Kumar in Sivaganga.
'The Constitution of India clearly states that men and women are equal before law. Women cannot be discriminated against and denied opportunities or assignments, merely on the basis of their sex. Excluding women from positions of responsibility amounts to discrimination and is strongly condemnable,' they said, while urging Mr. Davidson to retract his statement.
The Office of DGP, in its clarification, said during the recent video conference with officers from districts and cities on June 30, the ADGP-L&O had advised them against deploying a lot of women police personnel for bandobust duties. The instruction was made in view of the need for women police personnel in the investigation and prosecution of cases under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and crimes against women and children, it said.
As per law, it is mandatory to file the final reports in POCSO cases within 60 days, and the pendency in such cases requires immediate attention. The primary objective was to ensure that women police personnel, who play an indispensable role in investigating crimes against women and children, were not posted elsewhere, the statemen said.
It also clarified that women police personnel were an integral part of policing in Tamil Nadu. Women police personnel are deployed for bandobust duties, and they will continue to be used, wherever necessary.
The police department said it was to be understood that as per law, certain tasks in policing should be carried out by women police personnel only, such as arresting women, enquiring and recording the statements of women accused or witnesses or children, and managing women in crowds during bandobust duty.

RTI reveals Kerala govt sponsoring visit of spy suspect Jyoti Malhotra
The Kerala government has come under heavy fire after it was revealed that Jyoti Malhotra, a social media influencer recently arrested on espionage charges, had visited the state as part of a government-sponsored tourism promotion campaign. Malhotra, a Haryana-based vlogger, is now accused of leaking sensitive information to Pakistan. Shockingly, her entire trip across Kerala was facilitated and funded by the state's Tourism Department under an official influencer outreach initiative. Documents obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) Act confirm that her travel, accommodation, food, and even filming arrangements were handled by a private agency contracted by the department. She was among 41 influencers selected to promote Kerala as a global tourist destination. During her multi-city visit, Malhotra toured Kochi, Kannur, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Munnar, and Thiruvananthapuram. She arrived in Kerala via Kannur airport after travelling from Delhi to Bengaluru. Her vlogs included visuals of Theyyam performances and scenic locations, all of which were shared on her YouTube channel Travel with Jo and other social media platforms. She eventually returned to Delhi by train. At the time of her visit, no suspicions had been raised regarding her activities. However, her arrest in May 2025 under the Official Secrets Act has now cast a shadow over the episode. Central intelligence agencies are probing whether her video content may have served as a cover for intelligence-gathering. Investigators are also examining whether she accessed strategically sensitive locations or communicated with Pakistani handlers during her stay. Adding to the growing alarm, Haryana Police have confirmed that Malhotra had visited Pakistan shortly before the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir - raising serious questions about her potential ties to ISI operatives. Amid the controversy, Kerala's Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas defended the decision to bring Malhotra to the state. He insisted that the program was launched with good intentions and followed the precedents set by previous governments. 'This was part of a larger influencer campaign aimed at promoting Kerala. Everything was done transparently and in good faith,' Riyas said. 'This is not a government that facilitates espionage. The media must understand how government systems work. No one could have foreseen this.' However, opposition parties were quick to respond. Both the Congress and the BJP criticised the state's failure to conduct adequate background checks on the influencers invited under official programs. They demanded accountability for what they termed a 'serious lapse in judgment' that could have had national security implications. The ongoing investigation has triggered a wider debate on the intersection of tourism promotion and national security. Many are now calling for more rigorous vetting procedures for individuals participating in government-sponsored initiatives, especially those involving sensitive travel routes or infrastructure. With Malhotra still in custody and the probe expanding, the Kerala government finds itself on the defensive, scrambling to contain the fallout from what is now being called one of the most embarrassing intelligence lapses linked to a state-sponsored tourism effort.

Moral policing resurfaces in Dakshina Kannada; two arrested for insulting minors in public
'Moral policing' resurfaced in Dakshina Kannada with the incident of two persons allegedly waylaying two minors, a boy and a girl, insulting them in public and posting the video of the insult on social media in Puttur on Saturday. The two persons— Purushottam of Kudmaru near Kadaba, 43, and Ramachandra of Aryapu in Puttur, 38 — were arrested by Puttur Town police for the abuse and insult of minors. In a press release, the police stated that the boy and girl went to Beeramale Betta in Puttur on Saturday and were talking to each other when the accused persons, thinking that the boy belonged to a different religion from the girl's, confronted him. The two men then abused the minors in public and recorded it on their mobile phones. In doing so, they attracted public attention and people assembled at the spot. Then, the accused posted a video of the abuse on Instagram and WhatsApp, said the police. Superintendent of Police K. Arun stated in a press release that during the investigation, the police discovered that the minors belonged to the same religion. In the complaint, the minor boy's father accused Purushottam and Ramachandra of falsely projecting his son's religion and maligning the two minors in public. He sought action against the accused persons who tried to 'create communal tension'. The police registered his complaint for offences under Sections 126(2), 352, 351(2), 353(1)(C), 57, 196(1)(a) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The two accused were being questioned, the police said.
