Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone's fire scene in Om Shanti Om had action director Sham Kaushal crying on set: ‘What if something happened'
While it was thrilling to watch on the big screen, the film's action director Sham Kaushal remembers it differently. He recently confessed that set in Mumbai's Film City was so risk-prone that it made him cry several times on set. 'There wasn't so much of VFX back in 2007. We had to light the fire on that set, where Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, three camerapersons, and 60 members of my unit were inside the set. So, there were around 100 people inside the set that was on fire,' Sham recalled.
On the podcast of Aman Aujla, Sham claimed that set piece in Om Shanti Om was one of the most 'testing' of his long, illustrious career. 'There were so many moments of stress because you also had to put off the fire within seconds of lighting it. If someone commits a mistake anywhere, it could be very disastrous. I swear by God, there were so many times I'd go to the side and cry. I felt I'd get a heart attack,' added Sham.
He added that he got so tense because the entire unit's trust was resting on him. He prayed to Lord Hanuman to keep all of them safe. Sham claimed he considers the members of the unit as his own kids. 'Humans have little control over both fire and water. I get a little scared every time I do a stunt with fire or water. No one should get hurt because nothing is beyond safety,' added Sham.
Sham revealed that the tricky area with fire stunts is the timing. They had to light up the set four to five times a day while filming, but also had to put it off within seconds. 'For example, in Dunki, there was a scene in which Vicky (Kaushal, son) had to run with him on fire. It's just a matter of few seconds. Those who extinguish the fire are more committed than those who light it. Even if they burn their hands, they don't step back because they know how grave their job is,' said Sham.

While promoting his 2023 film Dunki, director Rajkumar Hirani also revealed Sham Kaushal was terribly stressed about the scene in which his team had to put his son Vicky Kaushal on fire, again during the interval block of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer. Hirani said that Sham gets particularly worried as an action director while working with his family.

Women Dancing On Kanwar Truck Get ‘Shameful And Disgusting' Comments From Internet
Last Updated: A video showing women dancing on a Kanwar Yatra truck has sparked outrage for allegedly disrespecting the sanctity of the pilgrimage. A video has gone viral showing two women dancing on a decorated truck during the Kanwar Yatra. The incident has drawn strong criticism on social media. The clip, whose exact location is unknown, shows a group of Kanwariyas, devotees of Lord Shiva, standing atop a moving truck while crossing what appears to be a flyover. What caught everyone's attention was the two women dancing to loud DJ music in front of a cheering crowd of male devotees. The truck, brightly decorated with lights and large speakers, looked more like a stage for entertainment than part of a religious procession. Over the video, a note in Hindi reads 'ये कैसे भक्त हैं (which roughly translates to 'What kind of devotees are these'), reflecting the outrage of many viewers. The caption to the video states – 'Kanwariyas enjoying raunchy dance and music while on their way to 'pilgrimage". So much sanskaar." Kanwariyas enjoying raunchy dance and music while on their way to 'pilgrimage". So much sanskaar. — Dr Aratrika Ganguly (@aratrika_g08) July 21, 2025 The clip was shared on July 21 on X and has received over tonnes of views so far. Many internet users have slammed the act, calling it disrespectful to the spirit of the Kanwar Yatra. Some people feel that the pilgrimage is being turned into a public spectacle, losing its spiritual meaning. A user said, 'Shameful and disgusting to say the least!" 'Shameless fellows," someone else wrote. 'So blessed to be born in the south of India. Thank God we won't do such things in the name of religion," an individual stated. As of now, there has been no official statement from authorities about the video. However, there is growing public demand for action to be taken, with many asking for better regulation to prevent such incidents in the future. What is the Kanwar Yatra? The Kanwar Yatra is a yearly pilgrimage where Lord Shiva devotees, known as Kanwariyas, collect holy water from the Ganga River—usually on foot—and offer it at Shiva temples in their hometowns. The tradition is rooted in devotion, simplicity and penance. But in recent years, many participants have started using trucks, loudspeakers and even DJs, leading to debates about whether these changes are harming the spiritual essence of the holy yatra. view comments First Published: July 22, 2025, 19:13 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
