Manchester fan, 20, admits slapping Jack Grealish after three word jab
Alfie Holt, 20, pleaded guilty to a single count of assault on Grealish after an encounter at the Manchester Derby in April, a court heard.
Prosecutor Shazia Aslam told the court Grealish was leaving the field after the Derby at Old Trafford, which was broadcast on Sky TV with a sell-out crowd. She said both sets of fans were very vocal and abusive.
The court heard that as players left the field, heading for the tunnel, Holt stood very close by, shouting abuse at Man City players.
Holt told police later that he had been drinking 'in town' with his dad before the game, before he began shouting abuse at football players, including Phil Foden, who ignored him.

But it was the jeer of 'Knobhead!' at Grealish that prompted the verbal altercation.
Grealish replied: 'You little, ugly wanker,' prompting Holt to 'flip' and slap the famous footballer. Grealish wasn't injured.
Magistrates were shown a brief clip of the incident, which had no sound.
Ms Aslam added: 'The defendant uses force against a player. Players are extremely vulnerable to this sort of conduct and need to be protected.'
Holt, a Manchester United season ticket holder in the Stretford End, was also given a three-year Football Banning Order and was fined £120, with £85 costs and a surcharge of £48.
The defendant told the court: 'I did not expect him to say what he said to me, and I have reacted. I regret it. That's it.'
Melanie Winstantley, defending, said Holt had no previous convictions and had never been arrested before, so the incident was completely out of character for him.
His Man Utd season ticket, which he has had for 12 years, had already been revoked, which is a 'significant punishment' to him.
She added: 'He's admitted what he's done, he's owned what he's done. It's a very minor assault.' More Trending
Ms Winstanley also said Grealish had 'doubled back' after going into the tunnel to speak to Holt.
'He didn't have to do that. It's not unusual for players and fans to engage in banter at football matches. I'm not trying to excuse the behaviour,' she added.
Passing sentence, chairwoman of the magistrates' bench Jill Hodges told the defendant she accepted Holt had pleaded guilty and he appeared to regret his actions, but said there needs to be 'punishment and deterrence' for the behaviour.
The court heard fines cannot be deducted from Holt's Personal Independence Payments, so his parents, with whom he lives, have agreed to pay them in full within 28 days.

Unexpected Emmerdale character sees killer John for who he really is
John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) got quite the shock in tonight's Emmerdale as he came face to face with someone who recently saw his dark side. Shortly after Robert Sugden's (Ryan Hawley) returned to the village, he tried to make Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) jealous by going on a date with a man called Owen. Robert's plan didn't bother Aaron in the slightest. Outside The Hide though, while Robert was away, Owen slipped something in his drink, and John witnessed the entire thing. In this evening's episode, John headed to work at the surgery, serving as a distraction ahead of the funeral of the man he murdered. John called Owen into the consultation room and it didn't take him long to realise who he was. Owen spoke about needing some more sleeping pills, and John wondered if he was planning on using them to drug anyone else. A while later, John was seen throwing Owen out of the surgery. It was witnessed by Robert, who rushed over to see what was going on. John claimed that Owen used threatening language and was therefore not welcome in the building. Of course, Owen claimed it was the other way round, and walked away after telling John that he's 'not right in the head'. Owen will be mentioned again in a few days time. When an opportunity presents itself to put someone altogether different in the frame for the murder of Nate, John decides he can fix things, John style. By killing someone else. Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) makes a house call to Owen, but he can't get an answer. Concerned for his patient's wellbeing, he calls the police, who break into the house and find Owen dead. Angry mob launch 'racist attack' on staff starting shift at migrant hotel

A group of locals showed up outside the Bell Hotel in Epping to protest the housing of migrants there, after a resident of the hotel was charged with multiple crimes a week after arriving in the UK. Ethiopian man Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, one count of inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, and one count of harassment without violence. Kebatu lives at the hotel and has since been remanded in custody after his hearing last week, but denies any wrongdoing. The crimes have enraged the local community, who met outside the hotel on Sunday, with counter-protesters from Waltham Forest Stand Up To Racism on the opposite side. But a video of the demonstrators attacking a man who was walking to work in the hotel has gone viral, prompting police to launch an investigation. A spokesperson from Essex Police told Metro no arrests have been made, but added: 'We are investigating the assault of two members of security staff working at The Bell Hotel, in Epping, and are treating the offences as racially aggravated. 'The assaults took place at a nearby bus stop in High Road, at around 8 pm on Sunday, July 13.' The two security guards had arrived to begin their shift and were set upon by a group of men. 'The two victims then managed to make their way past the protest into the hotel, where there was a significant policing presence, for safeguarding and to seek aid,' they added. 'Both victims have received hospital treatment for serious injuries, which are thankfully not life-threatening or life-changing. We will not tolerate violent incidents of this nature. 'An extensive investigation is underway to identify those responsible, led by our detectives. Our investigation suggests the offences were racially aggravated. We are acutely aware and understand that emotions within the community are running high. 'However, crime of any sort committed by anyone will not be tolerated. We continue to have a significant policing presence in the area to keep people safe.' Local community leaders are still raising concerns about the hotel. Chris Whitbread, the leader of Epping Forest District Council, said they warned the Home Office that the site was 'entirely inappropriate'. 'Placing vulnerable individuals from a wide range of cultural backgrounds into an unsupervised setting, in the centre of a small town, without the proper infrastructure, support or services, is both reckless and unacceptable,' he said. 'It puts pressure on local services, causes understandable concern for residents, and is unfair on those placed in the hotel. The Home Office must now face the reality of the situation.' Adam Brooks, who was at the protest, told Metro he didn't witness any violence, but did witness locals 'voicing their concerns and anger'. 'I had women tell me that they'd been flashed while walking their dogs, and many also say that they'd been harassed by men from the hotel,' he claimed. 'I had nothing to do with organising this or even knowing who did, I was there to report the protest, and if I'm honest, I was there as a worried local father. 'Violence is wrong under any circumstances. This isn't about skin colour, race or religion, it is about public safety, especially that of our children locally.' Adam said 12-15 counter protesters allegedly called the group 'far-right Nazi scum', which he says didn't help the already high tensions. Last year, similar scenes unfolded outside of a migrant hotel in Rotherham when far-right rioters attempted to break into the building in the aftermath of the Southport killings. In videos shared online, the mob was seen throwing bricks and chairs at officers with riot shields, before smashing windows and entering the building while chanting 'Yorkshire, Yorkshire'. Members of the mob, who waved Union flags and the St George's Cross, taunted police in the car park of the hotel. Balaclava-clad teen with 'unhealthy interest' in blades 'grinned' as he stabbed 18-year-old through the heart with a Rambo knife, court hears
A balaclava-clad teenager who had an 'unhealthy interest' in knives grinned before fatally stabbing an 18-year-old man through the heart with a Rambo-style knife, a murder trial has heard. Jurors at Derby Crown Court heard that Charles Hartle, who was aged 17 at the time, allegedly carried out an 'utterly pointless killing' when he attacked Noah Smedley on a dark street in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. The alleged attack happened on the evening of December 28 last year with the knife he kept hidden in his tracksuit bottoms. Hartle, now aged 18, sat in the dock on Tuesday wearing glasses, a black jacket and white shirt while Adrian Langdale KC opened the prosecution case. Mr Langdale told the jury of seven women and five men: 'On December 28 2024 you will have been getting over Christmas and preparing for the new year - Charles Hartle was going out on the streets armed with a knife. 'He moved towards Noah, he grinned or smiled before deliberately aiming for and stabbing him in the chest. 'There is no dispute that this lethal weapon was in the hands of that young man Charlie Hartle. 'Noah Smedley, the Crown will say, did absolutely nothing wrong, he did nothing to deserve what happened to him. 'He wasn't himself armed... he did not offer any violence. 'The Crown will say it was an utterly pointless killing other than this defendant's unhealthy interest with knives and the fact he was, the Crown will say, a habitual carrier of knives. 'You will hear that the defendant was planning on meeting up with three of his friends who would later witness, and be feet away from, the murder.' The court was told that Hartle and his friends arranged to meet Mr Smedley who arrived at the scene on an electric scooter and sold them cannabis before the fatal attack. Mr Langdale continued: 'It was agreed to meet him at a bus stop on Heanor Road, Ilkeston, and so the defendant and his three mates are captured on CCTV shortly after 8pm going to meet the deceased. 'This defendant deliberately hangs back at the back of the group, whilst the others are chatting with Noah and he gives them the cannabis. 'All seemingly, in these matters of seconds, are in good spirits - there is no animosity. 'This defendant will pull his balaclava down over his face, he moves forward in the group to get closer to Noah and reaches into the back of his tracksuit. 'Hartle immediately takes one stride forward and in the same motion thrusts the knife forward and through Noah's heart.' The jury heard that Hartle and his friends ran from the scene leaving Mr Smedley 'staggering and bleeding profusely'. The knife penetrated the right ventricle of Mr Smedley's heart and his left lung causing internal bleeding and his lung to collapse, the prosecutor said. Mr Langdale told the court: 'The defendant raises the idea of self-defence claiming to the police he had recently been threatened by others with knives. As a result of that he decided to take this knife out. 'The Crown say this is an entirely false account, instead it was the defendant who routinely carried a Rambo knife... and did so for the kudos and bravado.' The prosecutor said Hartle carried the weapon to show others he was a 'big man'. Jurors heard the defendant, of Station Road in Stanley, Derbyshire, pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in a public place but denies murder. CCTV of the group was shown to the jury, including the moment Mr Smedley was fatally stabbed with a knife described to be 'eight to nine inches' long. The trial, which is expected to last two weeks, continues.
