Derry are still waiting for their first competitive victory under Tally but are in the hunt for knockout football ahead of Saturday week's group finale against Dublin — and McKaigue hopes their latest effort makes Devlin eat his words.
He said: 'Gavin made that comment but if you were at the game, you would say that hopefully this is a turning point for that group.
'It was a really strong performance in terms of their attitude, their application, their intensity.
'From a Derry supporter's point of view, and knowing the lads, it was a performance to warm the heart.

Harnedy out of semi-final but there is good injury news for Cork

Séamus Harnedy will miss Saturday's All-Ireland SHC semi-final against Dublin. Cork manager Pat Ryan said the half-forward has been struggling with a hamstring issue. Harnedy was superb for the Rebels in their Munster final victory over Limerick, playing 68 minutes of the penalty shootout victory. The Cork management are hopeful that the St Ita's man will be available for the All-Ireland final on July 20 should their side defeat Dublin. Ryan added that defender Ger Millerick, who suffered a broken finger in Cork's victory over Waterford in the Munster round robin and subsequently missed the decider, is doubtful for the semi-final. There is some good news for Cork on the injury front with captain Robert Downey, corner-back Niall O'Leary, and forward Declan Dalton all set to be available to face Dublin. Downey and O'Leary both came on as substitutes against Limerick while Dalton did not feature in the matchday 26. 'Séamus has a hamstring issue, unfortunately,' Ryan told The Echo . 'He's back running in training this week. You'd be hoping he'd be back if we made it to the final but it'll need some work. 'The other lads are all perfect but there's still a bit of a question over Ger Millerick, where he's at. 'He's back in training, so it's about whether he has enough done. Ger and Sham are the only two, everyone else is fine, thankfully.'

Sligo Rovers land Bohs ace on loan, Shamrock Rovers terminate one player deal

James McManus says he won't look back for the rest of the season after joining Sligo Rovers on loan from Bohemians. The 20-year-old is still held in high regard by the third-placed Gypsies who only handed him a 2027 contact extension in May. But the midfielder has only made 12 appearances for Bohs this year - almost 70 in total since joining in 2021 - and he asked manager Alan Reynolds about a loan move. Reynolds - who has Cian Byrne back from a loan at Galway United, and is linked with Drogheda United striker Douglas James-Taylor - said: 'James is a quality midfielder with huge potential. 'He has a massive future ahead of him with Bohs. We just felt that after his season last year was disrupted so much by injury, the best thing is that he's playing regularly.' Once John Russell got wind that McManus was available, he swooped to make McManus the club's third signing this summer. Russell had already snapped up Seb Quirk and Paddy McClean - brother of ex-Ireland ace James - last week, with McManus another notable addition. All three are in line to make their debuts in Saturday's clash with league leaders Shamrock Rovers at the Showgrounds. Sligo Rovers will be hoping the youngster can play an important role in pulling clear of relegation with Rovers four points clear of bottom side Cork City. McManus said: "I've been in and out of the team at Bohs and haven't played as much as I feel I need to and want to. I spoke to Bohs about letting me go for a short while and once that was agreed, John (Russell) was straight in touch. "It didn't take long for me to be convinced that Sligo was the place for me. There were a few clubs that showed interest but once I knew Rovers were interested, I jumped at it.' Speaking to club media, McManus said: "I've seen how many young players have flourished under John at the Showgrounds. He puts trust in young players and gives you a platform to show people that young players are good enough to play at this level. "I've been impressed with Rovers this season. We play a really attractive brand of football and caused Bohs a lot of problems in the games we've played against each other. ' McManus knows Sligo Rovers duo Jad Hakiki and Conor Walsh from Ireland underage squads and he spoke to Bohs team-mate Niall Morahan about the move. Morahan was a Bit O'Red favourite before moving to the Gypsies ahead of this season and McManus said: "I want to play as much as possible here. We want to catch the teams above us and pull away from the bottom of the league as it's not where this football club belongs." Sligo Rovers boss Russell feels McManus can make a significant impact at the club over the rest of the season. Russell said: "James is an intelligent midfielder who can dictate the tempo of any game. He can do a bit of everything, which I love in a player. I feel he will fit in well with what we have here and the way we play. We are all excited to start working with him. 'I've always admired what he can do ever since he broke into the Bohs team. I'd like to thank both Pat Fenlon and Alan Reynolds for their help in getting this deal done." Sligo Rovers have also announced that they will host Nigel Clough's Mansfield Town in a friendly at the Showgrounds on Tuesday, July 15. Elsewhere, Sean Robertson and Shamrock Rovers have parted ways after a forgettable spell with the Hoops that yielded one substitute appearance in March. Eoin Cody back for Kilkenny as duo miss out for semi-final following injuries in training

Kilkenny have been given a big boost ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland Hurling Championship semi-final with Tipperary as Eoin Cody is set to be available to feature at Croke Park. Cody missed the Leinster final victory over Galway, having been in prolific form in the Leinster Hurling Championship round-robin opening games. He scored 1-05 against the Tribesmen and followed it up with 1-13 against Antrim, only for injury to disrupt his season. Cats boss Derek Lyng told RTÉ Sport today that Cody has been training for the last fortnight and he will now decide whether to start him in the clash with Tipp. Lyng said: "Eoin Cody has trained well in the last couple of weeks. Eoin has been an important player over the years and he has done a huge amount of work in the last few weeks to get himself back, as have some others over the year. "We've had a few niggles, but the competition has been there and we saw that in the Leinster final as well. "We're going to need everything. We know that it's a 20-man game now and players who don't start and come on have a huge role to play, and that's going to be very important this weekend." Two players that will miss out for Kilkenny are Harry Shine and Marty Murphy. Shine, a late sub against Galway, has ruptured his cruciate ligament, while Under-20 forward Murphy, who has yet to make his championship debut, has a hamstring problem. Lyng said: "I think we've had a very competitive squad all year. Unfortunately we've lost a couple of players with injuries. We have a few lads coming back. "When you get to another semi-final it just goes up another couple of notches as well, so we have to be ready for that but it's a great challenge and one we're looking forward to. "We've had a few injuries with Harry Shine and Marty Murphy in the last week, so they won't be involved. "We have a session again on Wednesday night and it's about getting the minds and heads ready now for the weekend." Watch the All-Ireland Camogie Championship quarter-finals with RTÉ Sport.
