Forgotten Rangers player could be on his way back to Ibrox

However, sports director, Marcus Mann, all but confirmed Matondo won't be part of their plans for next season last month, having made just two starts in Bundesliga 2 since joining.
And he could be on his way back to Glasgow earlier than planned after picking up a knee injury.

Hannover boss Lars Barlemann explained: "Rabbi took a knock on his knee recently and still has problems.
"He has to go for a scan to see the extent of the injury and then we will see if he can play a part for the rest of the season or not."
Matondo cost Rangers £3 million when he signed for them three years ago and still has a year to run on his contract.

Rangers urged to sign forgotten ex-England star as pundit insists he'd be ‘no risk' option for Light Blues

And Rangers have been urged by pundits to snap up a former England international as a 'no risk' option. 3 Russell Martin says he expects more new arrivals at Rangers this summer Credit: PA 3 Pundits on talkSPORT have discussed a surprise transfer option for Gers 3 Dele Alli has been told to find a new club by Italian outfit Como Credit: Getty Dele Alli was once at the upper heights of English football, winning back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards and representing England at the Euros and World Cup. The former Tottenham Hotspur star's career took a downward turn amid personal issues though, and after unsuccessful spells with Everton and Besiktas, he's been told to find a new club by Cesc Fabregas at Como. And Rangers have been urged to have a look at the attacking midfielder by pundits on talkSPORT. Speaking on the station's 'Transfer Tinder' section, host Shebahn Aherne said: "How do we feel about Dele to Rangers? "29-year-old Dele sadly isn't wanted by Como anymore, so perhaps swap Lake Como for Loch Lomond? "He was linked to Rangers a wee while ago, Ally McCoist said he would absolutely snap him up, how do we feel about that now?" Co-host Jeff Stelling responded: "Depends what the contract is like. "If it was sort of appearance-related, something like that, yeah, nothing to lose. "But unfortunately, and I feel for him, his track record in recent times is diabolical. "So you're not going to fork out good money with no guarantee that you're going to get games from Dele at all. Players are running the Rangers dressing room - Martin knows EXACTLY what he's doing "But if it's a contract that stipulates pay-as-you-play, then that's a completely different matter, we all remember just what a fantastic player he was." Pundit and former Newcastle and Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew added: "His fall from grace has been unusual - a player of that quality, playing for England, Champions League final etc., and now can't seem to get a contract at Como. "I hope he does [revive his career], he's a player that you don't want to lose. "Let's hope that there's life for him at Rangers." Stelling continued though: "It's very hard to see at 29 that there is going to be a revival, no matter how much we might want him to succeed." Pardew agreed: "If you look at the history of players that have fallen from grace, it's very rare that they come back and resurface." But Aherne responded: "It's sad because his situation is so personal, what he's going through. "But you'd think a club like Rangers, the fans would love him, and maybe that could revive the talent that's there." Stelling said: "Let's hope that that's the case - if it's on the basis of pay-as-you-play, it's a no-risk, no-lose situation for Rangers." Jakob Breum opens door for move after Celtic's rejected bids

The Parkhead club have had three bids for the winger thrown out - their starting point of £1.5million as well as increased offers of £1.75m and £3m. The Dutch side are holding out for £5m and are holding firm on that. Part of the reason for that is the sell-on clause due to his former club Odense, with the Danes due a 25 per cent cut of the next transfer fee. Go Ahead Eagles have just sold another wide man, Oliver Antman, to Rangers, and Breum admits others now need to step up to the plate. Read more: But he hasn't dismissed the possibility of himself moving on too. Speaking to ESPN after defeat to PSV in the Johann Cruyff shield, he said: "Time will tell. There's still one month left, but as long as I'm here, I'll do my best. "It's a boring answer, but that's the way it is. Now that important players have left, other players have to step up."

Russell Martin scores instant Rangers OG as Martin O'Neill admits 'I really wouldn't have done that'

The Celtic legend reckons the newly-appointed Ibrox boss should've kept his brutal criticism in-house rather than going public Martin O'Neill reckons Rangers boss Russell Martin jumped the gun by publicly annihilating his players after their Fir Park slip-up. ‌ Martin was livid after watching Gers spill opening day points at Motherwell and launched a furious tirade at some of his stars' mentality. ‌ The Ibrox gaffer's astonishing blast came just days after the Light Blues came through an energy-sapping Champions League clash in Athens. ‌ Martin's brutal tongue-lashing stunned fans and pundits, with Record Sport's Chris Sutton admitting he was taken aback by the "machine gun" rant. And Celtic managerial great O'Neill believes Martin might've overstepped the mark by going so hard on his underperformers in front of the camera. He told talkSPORT: "I started to think about myself about what I did in my earlier stages of management, and did I become critical of players early on in an attempt to ingratiate myself with fans? ‌ "Do you give them some time? And that's a point you have to consider, or is that a point of saying, 'Listen, let's get this out in the open'. "I think, from a distance, I don't think I would have been that critical of a team that has just got through two difficult matches against Panathinaikos. ‌ "I really wouldn't have done that there. If you have plenty to say, say it to them in the dressing room. "If this is what you want to do, if you want to get something out in the open and you want to tell you want to bring people in, then if you're going to do it, you might as well do it early." ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
