159 arrested for posing as seers in 2 days under Op Kalnemi
In Dehradun, 25 people were arrested on Friday and 23 more on Saturday.
SSP Ajai Singh said the accused were found loitering or sitting by the roadside in various parts of the city. "Of the total arrested under section 170 of the BNSS (arrest without warrant), nine were from other states, including Haryana, Bihar, and West Bengal.
As the investigation proceeds, further legal action will be taken against them," he said.
Police in Udham Singh Nagar apprehended 66 people from Khatima, Gadarpur, and Sitarganj areas over the two days.
Among them, three were from minority communities from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. SSP Manikant Mishra said, "The accused were exploiting people under the pretence of spirituality and religion. We plan to intensify the operation in the coming days."
In Haridwar, 45 individuals were detained from Shyampur, Jwalapur, Bahadrabad, and Kaliyar areas. SSP Pramendra Dobal said, "The accused hail from various states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Delhi. We are verifying their backgrounds in coordination with the respective state police. The operation continues, with dedicated teams in place to apprehend additional suspects.

C'garh cops ‘kidnapped' 8 Nadia workers: Mahua
Kolkata: Eight construction workers from Nadia, engaged by a Chhattisgarh-based private construction agency to work in Bastar's Kondagaon, had been "kidnapped" by Chhattisgarh police on July 12 and put in Jagdalpur prison, Trinamool's Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra alleged on Monday. Moitra said the workers' phones were switched off and the families had lost contact with them. The MP said these extra-judicial detentions took place despite the eight having valid Aadhaar and EPIC cards. In a statement on X, Moitra said: "They have been sent to prison under 128 BNSS, earlier 109 CrPC, which allows cops to act if they suspect anyone is hiding to avoid committing a cognizable offence. But the legal provisions stipulated have been completely ignored, no hearings were given. The police detained them on July 12, and now they are in prison." 2 women accuse Chhangur Baba of forced conversions
Lucknow: Two women from Bengaluru and UP's Auraiya have come forward with testimonies, alleging they were trapped, exploited, and forcibly converted to Islam as part of a religious conversion syndicate allegedly run by Jamaluddin alias Chhangur Baba. Both women, in their mid-20s, were rescued with help from Vishwa Hindu Raksha Parishad national president Gopal Rai. Rai has claimed getting threats. Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow on Monday, the women accused Baba's network of using fake Hindu identities, emotional manipulation, sexual abuse, and blackmail to coerce Hindu women into conversion and marriage. The Bengaluru-based victim, a beautician, said she was contacted on Instagram by a man posing as "Raju Rathore" (real name Faisal), who lured her to Dubai on the pretext of a job. There, she was allegedly gang-raped, filmed, and blackmailed. She was introduced to Chhangur Baba via video call and forced to convert. After returning to India, she was taken to Saharanpur, where she was allegedly assaulted again. The Auraiya victim said her mother sought help from a man named "Rudra" (real name Meraj) to treat her alcoholic father. Rudra introduced them to Chhangur Baba. Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka high court orders full disclosure of status report
Bengaluru: Stating that no national security or public interest is involved in keeping documents in a sealed cover, Karnataka high court mandated the disclosure of the June 12 status report on the June 4 M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, which claimed 11 lives. The court ordered that the report, along with translations submitted by the state govt, should be included in court records and shared with other respondents — Karnataka State Cricket Association, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and DNA Entertainment Pvt Ltd — and dismissed the previous sealed cover arrangement requested by advocate-general Shashikiran Shetty. A division bench led by acting Chief Justice V Kameshwar Rao and Justice CM Joshi issued a detailed order after considering submissions of parties involved. The court held Shashikiran Shetty's arguments as insufficient since sealed cover proceedings are limited to cases involving public interest, national security or privacy rights. It concurred with the submission that the facts presented won't change after the inquiry reports.
