One by one, from coach Nick Sirianni to Hurts to general manager Howie Roseman to offensive lineman Jordan Mailata, the Eagles stood firm Wednesday on the first day of training camp that the word 'repeat' for the 2024 champions is not part of the vernacular around the complex.
'We're not defending nothing,' Mailata said, later tossing in a profanity for emphasis. 'We're not the defending champs. We're the 2024 world champs, that's it.'

Hurts, who won Super Bowl MVP honors in the Eagles' 40-22 thrashing over Kansas City, said he appreciated Jordan's advice. The best approach in 2025 is for the Eagles to took at the season as a blank canvas, that it's 'purely about resetting,' rather than rambling on about a repeat, which would shift focus to what they accomplished last season.

Maybe that's why Hurts was never photographed wearing the Super Bowl ring in the scores of photos released on social media from last week's ceremony. While most Eagles players were snapped flashing the gaudy bling, Hurts simply held the box in his photos.

Hurts was cryptic when asked if he actually slipped on the ring — which include wings on each side that release from the bezel and feature 145 diamonds, celebrating the Eagles' 145 points scored in the playoffs.

Brock Purdy's milestone year: A $265M deal and a new baby for the 49ers QB
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Long before he has thrown his first official pass of the 2025 season, it's been a milestone year for Brock Purdy. He signed a $265 million extension that solidified his spot as the franchise quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in May and became a father for the first time last week when his wife gave birth to Millie Joleen Purdy. 'I still really can't describe it, just how awesome it is coming home and seeing little baby girl and holding her and her sleeping on me,' Purdy said Friday, a week after his wife Jenna gave birth to his daughter. 'There's nothing better. No gift can compare. And seeing Jenna and how she's been awesome as a mom, just all of it all together. It's so good.' With his financial future set and his family growing, Purdy can now focus on his performance on the field as he and the 49ers try to get back to their 2023 form when Purdy had one of the most prolific passing seasons in team history when he set a franchise record for yards passing (4,280) and became the first Niners QB in more than two decades to throw at least 30 TD passes (31). That helped him finish fourth in the NFL in MVP voting and helped the team reach the Super Bowl before losing in overtime to Kansas City. That success was harder to come by in 2024 as Purdy was hampered by injuries to key offensive players like Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk. His passer rating dropped nearly 17 points to 96.1, he had only 20 TD passes and 12 interceptions on the season, and also came up short in several late-game scenarios when the 49ers had a chance for a comeback win. 'Obviously, there's so much stuff that has happened in my life off the field for sure, but to come in the building and keep it simple and play football, I feel like it's really good for me,' he said. 'I come here and I get my mind back on what matters and stepping out on the field and competing and playing the game that I love. Obviously there's a new goal with a new team this year, so there's a chip on all of our shoulders right now so when I come here to work I hone in on what my job is and it feels good. But Purdy has been extremely efficient when he has taken the opportunity with his 46.9 completion rate ranking first in NFL in that span. 'I think Brock's always had it,' coach Kyle Shanahan said. 'It's just about recognizing when it's the right look, being able to get your body into it and anticipate it and see it. Deep balls, I think, can be a tough thing when you don't anticipate it, when you don't see it right. Chiefs' Xavier Worthy cleared to practice after concussion protocol as Drue Tranquill departs
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy cleared the concussion protocol and was back at practice on Friday, a good sign for a wide receiver group that has had its share of bumps and bruises throughout training camp. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Worthy was placed in the protocol after hitting his head while trying to make a catch during practice Wednesday. But an evaluation showed that fluid in Worthy's ear was causing problems with equilibrium, and that he did not have an actual concussion, allowing doctors to clear him quickly. The Chiefs were still missing Marquise Brown to an ankle injury and fellow wide receiver Skyy Moore to an ailing hamstring on Friday, while linebacker Drue Tranquill was forced to depart practice after straining his back. Worthy is expected to be a big part of a Kansas City offense that wants to push the ball downfield more this season. He set the NFL scouting combine record last year for the fastest 40-yard dash, and the second-year pro turned those dynamic numbers into a rookie season that produced 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns. Worthy then had 19 catches for 287 yards and three more scores in three playoff games, including the Super Bowl. In other news, the Chiefs waived injured cornerbacks Darius Rush and Eric Scott Jr. They signed wide receiver Key'Shawn Smith and cornerbacks Ajani Carter and Azizi Hearn to provide some depth at those positions.
