The new facility allows for year-round cultivation of fruit plants, regardless of seasonal changes. District Horticulture Officer Sanjeev Kumar said that the department previously relied on seeds to grow plants, which typically took seven years to bear fruit. However, with the introduction of grafting techniques in the poly greenhouse, fruit plants will begin producing in just three years.
Speaking to IANS, Sanjeev Kumar highlighted the broader goals of HADP, which has been active in J&K for the past two years.
"There are 29 projects under HADP, inaugurated by PM Modi. Our focus is horticulture, specifically under projects 9, 15, and 21. We want people to grow their own plants, reduce dependence on external sources, and become self-reliant," he stated.
"We also plan to provide similar high-tech poly greenhouse nurseries to farmers on a subsidy basis, helping them boost productivity and income," Sanjeev Kumar said.
He added that Poonch is uniquely suited for Pecan nut cultivation, a crop grown exclusively in this region of the Union Territory.
"We also cultivate apples. This poly house will support and expand our horticulture practices significantly," Sanjeev Kumar told IANS.
HADP, spearheaded by the Agriculture Production Department of J&K, comprises 29 comprehensive projects across agriculture, including horticulture, crop production, and livestock. Through 75 integrated schemes, the programme aims to ensure sustainability, self-sufficiency, and commercial viability in the region's agrarian economy.
Horticulture is the science and art of the development, sustainable production, marketing and use of high-value, intensively cultivated food and ornamental plants.
Horticultural plants are grown for a particular purpose, including for food, medicine, as ornamentals, for aromatic properties, or in the wine industry. As a result, this leads to various fields within horticulture, such as floriculture, viticulture, olericulture, arboriculture, pomology, and oenology, which are the study, cultivation, and marketing of flowers, grapes, vegetables, trees, fruits, and wine, respectively. Each area of science involves the landscaping of crop fields, which adds to the aesthetics, but more importantly, the required growth guidelines are followed in order to maximise the production of the respective plants for their specified use in these industries.

India More Equal Than G7 & G20 Nations, Says World Bank Report As Jan Dhan, Aadhaar Fuel Rise
Last Updated: As per the report, extreme poverty dropped to 2.3 per cent in 2022-23 and 1.71 million Indians have moved out of the extreme bracket between 2011 and 2023 India is growing and also bridging the gap between its people. A latest World Bank report places India among the world's most equal societies. It ranks as the fourth most-equal country globally, ahead of the G20 and G7 nations. As per the report, extreme poverty dropped to 2.3 per cent in 2022-23 and 1.71 million Indians have moved out of the extreme bracket between 2011 and 2023. These figures are important and impressive, considering India is a vast and diverse country and many areas till recently were considered unreachable. In fact, the figures best reflect the economic growth stories and also show how the various policies of the government and announcements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are designed to ensure poverty is erased from India. One such key scheme is the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana. This has ensured that even the poor now have bank accounts. As of June 25 this year, over 55.69 crore people have a Jan Dhan account, which means more and more people are getting connected to the scheme and can now avail loans on easy interest rates. Aadhaar and digital identity are also feats that have helped bridge the poverty gap. More than 142 crore Aadhaar cards have been issued and numbers are increasing day by day. DBT or direct benefit transfer has also ensured that savings increased to Rs 3.48 lakh crore. Ayushman Bharat, Start-Up India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana have all been important contributors. The methodology for calculating the equality index is called Gini Index. As per this index, India's score—25.5—is much lower than China's—which is at 35.7. The lower the index, the more equal you are. Sources say the finance ministry and other infrastructural sectors are working on new policies to ensure that India's Gini index goes lower, which means the country is becoming more equal. The areas of concern for now are in far-flung areas and states like Bihar, Bengal, Jharkhand, parts of Kashmir, and Tamil Nadu. The government hopes that as these areas become more accessible and the Centre's schemes percolate to the last level, India will become more equal. First Published: July 05, 2025, 14:36 IST

How Delhi-Jaipur Expressway will be a gamechanger for connectivity and economy
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has undertaken several key infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity across the country. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance travel efficiency between cities and boost the economic development in the region. One such project is the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. The recently completed project is a part of the Delhi-Vadodara section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The Delhi-Vadodara Expressway, is expected to further ease traffic and reduce travel time between Delhi and Jaipur to just 3 hours — down from the current 3 hours and 45 minutes. This development will help decongest and ease NH-48 and NH-21, facilitating smoother and faster journeys. As part of this corridor, the 66.916-km four-lane Greenfield Bandikui Spur — built at a cost of Rs 2,016 crore, offers direct connectivity. It also addresses the previous gap in direct road links, ensuring better travel options for daily commuters and freight operators alike. Earlier in February 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 246-km-long Delhi–Dausa–Lalsot section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This operational stretch has already reduced travel time from Delhi to Jaipur to approximately 3.5 hours and has impact economic activity along the corridor. The Delhi-Jaipur Expressway will have a major impact on the regional economy. Apart from these, the government is also working on a plan to built rural haats along the expressway. As a result, the local farmers, weavers, handicrafts-men will be able to sell their products easily. The Delhi-Jaipur section will also boost travel and tourism industry as well. Rajasthan has already been an attractive destination for tourists from the country and abroad. Now, with the development of this expressway, its attraction will increase even further. It will improve connectivity to several tourist places like Sariska Tiger Reserve, Keoladeo, Ranthambore National Park, etc. Earlier, addressing a rally at Rajasthan's Dausa in 2023, PM Modi said that modern infrastructure projects will further facilitate people like farmers, college and office commuters, truck-tempo drivers, and businessmen. 'You can imagine how much time will be saved by this. The friends from this entire area who work in Delhi, or are engaged in business, or need to travel for any other work, can now easily reach their homes in the evening. Truck-tempo drivers who carry goods to and from Delhi will not have to spend their whole day on the road. Small farmers and cattle-rearers can now easily send their vegetables and milk to Delhi at a low cost. Now the risk of their goods getting perished on the way due to delay has also reduced,' PM Modi said. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is set to revolutionize inter-city travel. Upon completion, the journey from Jaipur to Delhi, which previously took 5 to 6 hours, will be covered in half the time. Once fully completed, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be India's longest expressway, stretching 1,386 km. It will shorten the travel distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 12 per cent from 1,424 km to 1,242 km and cut travel time by 50 per cent, from 24 hours to just 12.

Indian Oil using solar power at 36,000 retail outlets in push to green energy
Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, said on Friday that self-reliance in electricity is crucial for a self-reliant India and solar energy is playing a significant role in this. The minister highlighted that in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, Indian Oil Corp Ltd has expanded this strength of India by fully solarising its over 36,000 retail outlets, where most operations are powered by solar energy. This commendable effort not only saves on electricity bills but also makes an invaluable contribution to building a 'Green India,' the minister observed in a post on X social media platform. He said, "New India is moving forward on the mantra of complementary aspects of economy and environment. Whether it's the roof of a home, an office, or a factory... if there's even a little space, utilise solar energy. It is proving to be a major means of meeting energy needs." India's solar energy capacity has taken a massive leap in the last 11 years — from a mere 2.82 GW in 2014 to an impressive 105.65 GW as of March 31 this year, according to official figures. The total installed solar capacity of 105.65 GW comprises 81.01 GW from ground-mounted installations, 17.02 GW from rooftop solar, 2.87 GW from solar components of hybrid projects, and 4.74 GW from off-grid systems. The growth demonstrates continued uptake of solar energy across utility-scale and distributed categories. The expansion in the installation of solar power generation capacity has been backed by a robust domestic production of solar cells and wafers which was almost non-existent in 2014. India has now built a strong foundation with 25 GW of solar cell production and 2 GW of wafer production. Puri also highlighted that the number of Income Tax returns filed has increased from 3.6 crore in the financial year 2013–14 to 8.5 crore in the financial year 2024–25, with 95 per cent processed within 30 days. These figures reflect India's emerging financial culture. When taxation is managed honestly, it becomes a powerful medium of empowerment. This can be seen in the welfare schemes of the Modi government, he added.>
