World Women Surgeons' Society: A Bold Initiative by Baia-Margarita Kepuladze and Tinatin Dundua to Support Professional Growth and Career Advancement for Women in Medicine

The World Women Surgeons' Society is a visionary initiative founded by renowned Georgian doctors Baia-Margarita Kepuladze and Tinatin Dundua. Its mission is to create a global platform where female surgeons can engage in open and thoughtful discussions, share their experiences, and collectively address both professional and social challenges.
First conceptualized in 2018, the Society aims to promote women's leadership in surgery, foster professional growth, and encourage collaboration toward gender equality, education, and career advancement.
Why "World" Women Surgeons' Society?
Although headquartered in Georgia, the Society's vision transcends national borders. The founders believe that setting geographical limitations would only hinder progress. Instead, they strive to:
Expand professional networks and collaborations on a global scale;
Welcome members and guests from around the world;
Support one another's growth and development not only nationally, but also internationally.
"This initiative was born out of the need for a safe and understanding environment, where even the smallest daily challenges women face in the surgical field are heard, acknowledged, and addressed. It's a place where we can support each other and grow stronger together so that female surgeons can rightfully claim and retain their place in medicine and surgery - free from unnecessary obstacles and regardless of gender. That's why our Society is open to all surgeons, including men, so they may better understand our challenges and offer their support. Our goal is to amplify the capabilities of women surgeons on an international scale," Baia-Margarita Kepuladze shared in an interview with Entrepreneur.
As the co-founder explains, women in surgery often face gender-based stereotypes. Surgery is still perceived as a male-dominated field, and female surgeons frequently have to go above and beyond to prove themselves. "We women must not only define our roles professionally, but also fight to ensure that gender does not become a barrier to our success. It's also important to highlight the strong support we've received from our male colleagues, which underscores the value and necessity of this Society," said Kepuladze.
One of the greatest challenges, she recalls, was finding like-minded individuals who shared the vision and were ready to work collaboratively toward a common goal. Ultimately, she was able to bring together people who believed in the cause, trusted the mission, and became the foundation of the growing Society.
"The most difficult part was people's initial reaction. Many didn't take the idea seriously – not because they doubted my ability, but because of prevailing societal biases. Years ago, patients were often hesitant to trust female surgeons. I postponed launching the Society several times, but I always knew the time would come. Earning people's trust took time. I needed a team willing to take responsibility and see this through with me. And in the end, everything fell into place - thanks to my dedication, integrity, and commitment. Together, we launched what I believe is a much-needed and timely initiative," she said.
Years of independent work and medical experience have taught the founders that preparation, resilience, and belief in one's goals are critical for success. They emphasize the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and sound decision-making, all while fostering an entrepreneurial mindset that transforms ideas into reality.
To Baia, an entrepreneur is someone who doesn't just imagine new possibilities, but takes responsibility for realizing them.
"Entrepreneurs are leaders who bring new opportunities to life, take bold risks, and constantly strive for growth. They are persistent, focused on their goals, and unafraid of breaking down barriers. Mistakes are inevitable, but each one is a lesson. In any venture, challenges abound, and success depends on finding solutions. For aspiring entrepreneurs and senior managers, my advice is to focus on the team and relationships. Great ideas matter, but sustainable success is built on strong teams. Communication, collaboration, and mutual support are essential. It's crucial to keep your team motivated and aligned with a shared vision," adds Tinatin Dundua.
To women who have ideas but hesitate to act on them, the founders say: don't wait for the perfect moment. Every journey begins with a single step. Even if the plan isn't complete or resources are limited, take that step. Believe in your potential and don't delay action.
Future Directions: A Multidisciplinary Vision
The future of the World Women Surgeons' Society is guided by a clear, multidisciplinary plan.The Society aims to not only foster professional advancement, but also advocate for women's rights and leadership in medicine. Key initiatives include :
Education and Training Programs: Offering workshops and training opportunities for women surgeons to enhance their skills and expand their professional competencies.
Regional and International Networking: Strengthening global partnerships to allow members access to international medical standards, practices, and knowledge-sharing.
Leadership Development: Launching projects to empower more women to take on leadership roles in healthcare, increase representation in senior positions, and drive change within the medical industry as a whole.
"Inspiration is what unites our entire association - and that inspiration comes from many sources. The evolving role of women in society, their success stories, and the desire to help others and shape better opportunities for future generations give us the strength to move forward. We believe that a foundation built on trust, open dialogue, and constant communication will guide us to accomplish work that truly matters. This solidarity only deepens our motivation to undertake even greater and more impactful projects," the co-founders concluded.

MTG urges Donald Trump to commute George Santos' prison sentence

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is calling on the Trump administration to commute the sentence of former Congressman George Santos, who was sentenced to seven years in prison earlier this year after pleading guilty to wire fraud and identity theft. 'George Santos has taken responsibility,' Greene wrote on X, sharing a letter she sent to the Justice Department's Office of the Pardon Attorney. 'He's shown remorse. It's time to correct this injustice.' 'I wholeheartedly believe in justice and the rule of the law, and I understand the gravity of such actions,' the letter reads. 'However, I believe a seven-year sentence for such campaign-related matters for an individual with no prior criminal record extends far beyond what is warranted.' Greene claimed Santos, who has sold Cameo videos speaking to fans and hosted a podcast playing on his reputation called Pants on Fire, was 'sincerely remorseful and has accepted full responsibility for his actions.' In April, Santos was sentenced to 87 months in prison for wire fraud and identity theft after pleading guilty last year and agreeing to nearly $374,000 in restitution payments. The following month, the former New York representative, who prosecutors accused of pocketing thousands of dollars in donor funds, appealed to the president for a full pardon. 'Previously, I was not entertaining a pardon because I didn't know what my judgment would be. Now, I am in the process of filling an application to a pardon for the president. I'll take a commutation, a clemency, whatever the president is willing to give me,' Santos said in an interview with Piers Morgan. 'I do believe this is an unfair judgment handed down to me,' he added. 'There was a lot of politicization over the process.' Santos, 37, is now in custody at a federal prison in Fairton, New Jersey. He was expelled from Congress in December 2023, following the release of a damning ethics report. He shared a goodbye post on X before entering prison thanking his allies and critics alike. 'Well, darlings…The curtain falls, the spotlight dims, and the rhinestones are packed,' he wrote. 'From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it's been! Was it messy? Always. Glamorous? Occasionally. Honest? I tried… most days.' Santos was charged with 23 felony counts for three alleged schemes to use donor money and government assistance funds to enrich himself while running for Congress. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Republican, who was elected in 2022, also grabbed headlines for exaggerating details about his education and work experience, as well as his mother's whereabouts during 9/11 and his Jewish heritage. Greene has sought presidential intervention for controversial figures before. In May, she asked the president to pardon Derek Chauvin, the then-Minneapolis police officer who murdered George Floyd in a widely seen 2020 incident that set off national protests.

Browns' Shedeur Sanders reveals advice father Deion Sanders gave him amid cancer battle

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders revealed that he dealt with bladder cancer this spring, resulting in a surgery during which his bladder was removed. As "Coach Prime" went through this health scare, his son Shedeur Sanders was preparing for his first year in the NFL. Shedeur, a fifth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in April, spoke with reporters on Monday at training camp, and he revealed what his father's message was to him during this tough time for the family. "Dad, he's one person that — he'll handle his; we handle what we've got to do," Shedeur, whose brother Shiloh is also fighting for a roster spot on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said. "It was like, 'Y'all need to focus on what y'all could focus on. Y'all can't sit here and feel sorry for me.' … At the end of the day, you're all able to see and you're all able to understand everything on and off the field that I go through. "So, then you've got to be some type of human at some point in the way I'm doing everything and how I'm handling everything that's thrown at me. You've got no choice but to applaud that." Deion Sanders announced his health scare, which had been speculated about for months by football fans, on July 28 alongside Buffaloes doctors. The 57-year-old Pro Football Hall of Famer and coach had "very high-risk, non-muscle invasive bladder cancer," according to his oncologist. He is now cancer-free. "We removed the tumor. It was very high-grade and invading through the bladder wall," said Dr. Janet Kukreja, urological oncology director at CU Anshutz. "I am pleased to report that the results from the surgery are that he is cured from the cancer." The cancer could have spread to the muscle, according to Dr. Kukreja, which happens in about half of cases. "Only about 10% of people live five years, even with our current medical treatment, if it metastasizes," she added. So, as Shedeur mentioned, it really has been quite the rollercoaster off the field for him since he left his father's program to join the NFL ranks. It began with possibly being a first-round draft pick, only to fall to Day 3 when the Browns finally took him off board in the fifth round at 144th overall. The Browns had previously drafted Oregon's Dillon Gabriel, a fellow Heisman Trophy finalist, in the third round. It's considered by many to be the worst fall in a draft class, but Shedeur has been nothing but positive about his opportunity with Cleveland. The Browns, though, have him listed as fourth on their current depth chart on their site, which isn't a definitive ranking among the quarterbacks in the locker room. However, it does give good direction as to where head coach Kevin Stefanski is looking in that regard. Joe Flacco, who led the Browns to the playoffs two seasons ago, returned to the team as the presumptive starter. Kenny Pickett, though, is dealing with a hamstring injury, as is Gabriel right now. Shedeur also missed Saturday's practice due to arm soreness. Shedeur hasn't taken any first-team snaps, as the Browns are slow-playing his development early in camp. As such, Shedeur didn't want his father showing up in Berea, Ohio, the home of the Browns' facility, like he did in Tampa Bay where Shiloh is competing at safety. "I don't want him to come and see me get a couple of reps, and then he's cheering like a good dad," Shedeur said. "Like, 'Nah, you can't be proud of me right now. I got to get to where I'm going.' I know there's a lot I've got to do to get there. I just want everything that I'm doing to be focused on this time, and I don't want distractions. "We know how everybody would take it, as taking away from the team, with my own dad showing up. It's a gift and a curse at the same time." Shedeur says he's looking forward to the Browns' first preseason game, which comes this Friday against the Carolina Panthers.
