Hamdan Foundation Advances to Judging Stage of 2025 Medical Awards After Screening 330 Submissions - Middle East Business News and Information
According to the awards committee, this year's cycle received a total of 330 submissions from 18 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Oman, Iraq, India, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Jordan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Morocco, the United States, Pakistan, Tunisia, Syria, and Ghana. Following an initial review, 261 submissions advanced to the administrative and technical screening stage, which involved verifying compliance with the award's eligibility criteria and guidelines. Of those, 161 applications were confirmed as eligible and are now set to proceed to the judging phase, scheduled to begin on 2 June and continue until 15 October.
The judging process will be carried out by specialized committees comprising distinguished experts in the field. Each submission will be assessed according to the specific evaluation criteria established for each award category.
Dr. Salama Al Muhairi, Director of Medical Excellence at Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, emphasized the significance of this stage, noting that the evaluation and screening of submissions adhere to the highest standards to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process. She added that these efforts reflect the merit and credibility of the Medical Excellence Awards, which seek to spotlight innovations and achievements that contribute to the advancement of medical practices. The awards also aim to encourage and support researchers in producing impactful and innovative studies in medicine and healthcare. The Foundation is committed to sharing the benefits of award-winning work, offering it as a source of inspiration and a model for excellence in scientific and medical fields. These achievements also contribute to the development of new solutions to address growing challenges in the healthcare sector.
The Medical Excellence Awards consist of two main categories. The first is dedicated to supporting health and research achievements across the Arab world and includes the Arab Award for Health Sector Research and the Arab Award for Genetic Sciences. The second category focuses on recognizing exceptional contributions within the United Arab Emirates and includes the Best Research in Healthcare Award, the Innovation in Healthcare Award, and the Hamdan Award for Distinguished Personalities.
Over previous cycles, the awards have garnered wide recognition and attracted high-quality submissions from both inside and outside the UAE. This success reflects the Foundation's commitment to supporting innovation and fostering a culture of excellence in the healthcare sector, while highlighting major accomplishments in scientific research and healthcare delivery.

MBRF and UNDP organize final phase of ‘Knowledge Journey in Kuwait' to prepare leaders of tomorrow - Middle East Business News and Information
In partnership with Kuwaiti General Secretariat of Supreme Council for Planning and Development The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation MBRF and the United Nations Development Programme UNDP, in collaboration with Kuwait's General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development SCPD, launched the third and final phase of the ' Knowledge Journey in Kuwait' initiative. In line with its goal to empower Kuwaiti women and youth, the initiative aims to nurture key leadership skills to address future challenges and drive sustainable development across the public and private sectors. The concluding phase included virtual sessions on June 23 and 25, 2025, followed by in-person workshops scheduled from June 29 to July 1, 2025, in Kuwait. In the final phase, nearly 60 participants benefitted from a dynamic and engaging learning environment featuring interactive workshops, expert-led analytical sessions, and thought-provoking discussions. Distinguished keynote speakers shared insights, while collaborative working groups co-developed practical, forward-looking strategies for knowledge sustainability. The results of the initiative, including policy recommendations for decision-makers, will act as a strategic roadmap for shaping Kuwait's knowledge-driven future. His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, said, 'Driven by our strong belief in human capital investment, we strive to empower the youth by equipping them with future-ready skills to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving world. Chinese PM to visit Egypt amid growing political, economic, military ties - Foreign Affairs
Chinese Premier Li Qiang will begin a two-day visit to Egypt on 9 July, following his attendance at the BRICS Summit in Brazil, the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday. The visit comes at the invitation of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and follows a period of intensified diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries. In May, Madbouly publicly welcomed an anticipated visit by the Chinese president and praised Beijing's support for Egypt in international forums. That same month, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi visited Beijing, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders reaffirmed a five-year framework for cooperation and marked the 10th anniversary of elevating their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. During the meeting, both sides agreed to prioritize technology transfer and industrial investment as part of broader economic collaboration. Egypt and China have a long history of diplomatic relations. Egypt was the first Arab and African nation to establish diplomatic relations with China in 1956. Economic ties China and Egypt have strengthened economic ties in recent years, with Cairo seeking a larger share of Chinese investment in Africa. In May, Madbouly expressed hope that Egypt would benefit from the $52 billion in African investment announced at the China-Africa Cooperation Forum. Chinese companies are involved in several large-scale projects in Egypt, including infrastructure development, port expansion, and the development of the electric railway system. The Central Business District in the New Administrative Capital is also being developed with Chinese involvement. According to Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), trade between the two countries reached a peak of $16.6 billion in 2022. In Q4 2024, China was Egypt's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $4.31 billion, surpassing the United States at $2 billion, according to the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC). The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) reports that 2,800 Chinese companies operate in Egypt, with total investments exceeding $8 billion. These include firms such as OPPO, Huawei, Midea, and Haier. GAFI is working to attract additional Chinese investment in sectors such as automotive manufacturing, textiles, electronics, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence, per the authority's CEO, Hossam Heiba. Plans are underway to establish a Chinese textile zone in Minya Governorate, in collaboration with the China National Textile and Apparel Council, under the export-supportive free zone system. Three Chinese companies — Haier, Midea, and Shen Feng — have been granted the golden license, consolidating all approvals required to establish and operate their businesses. In May, GAC Automotive announced a $300 million investment to build a car manufacturing plant in the country. Trade between Egypt and China rose from $11.9 billion in January 2022 to $15.7 billion by January 2024. Egypt is also a participant in China's Belt and Road Initiative, through which it is seeking to upgrade infrastructure in energy, transport, and communications. Military ties Military cooperation between Egypt and China has also expanded. In April, the two countries held their first joint air force drills—Eagles of Civilisation 2025—at the Wadi Abu Rish Air Base near the Gulf of Suez. According to Egypt's Ministry of Defence, the exercise included joint air sorties, combat simulations, and training on air operations planning.
