Local Radio and ECB agree new four-year deal for County Cricket Coverage

Cricket fans can keep up with the action of their favourite county cricket action this season with BBC Local Radio and BBC Sport.
The BBC has extended its longstanding partnership with the ECB to provide commentary of men's and women's domestic cricket for the next four years. This will include full commentary on every match in the Rothesay County Championship plus the best of the action from the men's and women's white ball competitions.
Commentary will be provided by BBC Local Radio's expert pundits and commentators for every one of the 18 Professional Counties alongside summarisers from a mix of current and recent players from the women's and men's games.
In 2024 there were almost 30 million listens to BBC Local commentaries and views to the live text pages combined on the BBC for the Rothesay County Championship.
Jason Horton, Director of BBC Local says: 'Our four-year pledge to County Cricket solidifies our passion for local sport. We're here to keep you informed, entertained, and at the heart of the action—sharing the thrills and tension as we champion your teams together.'
Adam Mountford, Head of Cricket, BBC Sport, adds: 'Not only will cricket fans be able to follow the best of the action from the men's and women's domestic game through BBC Local Radio, but there will also be extensive coverage available across 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds. Our first BBC ball by ball County cricket commentary took place back in 1927 and it's brilliant that this new deal means we'll still be broadcasting domestic cricket 100 years later and beyond.'

He was named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in December - the first ever darts player to win the award. He has seen his social media following grow to almost two million on Instagram alone. The star has also signed . Littler is aware of his success and admitted that he knows what he has done for the sport. He told Front Office Sports: "There's not a lot of time to look back on what I've achieved. Littler's impact has been well documented and PDC CEO Matt Porter believes that he is becoming bigger than darts itself. Luke's impact on darts is clear to see in the hike in the prize money available to players. The PDC announced there would be a massive increase in cash prizes in 2026. This includes the landmark £1MILLION prize for the next winner of the world championship. This is double the £500,000 that Littler got his hands on earlier this year for beating Michael van Gerwen in the final in January.

And the match produced some incredible drama as underdogs Tipperary stunned Cork to claim victory. They were handed the advantage as Cork were reduced to 14 men as Eoin Downey was shown a red card. Tipperary took full advantage of the extra man as they stormed to a final score of 37-21. The result meant further heartbreak for favourites Cork, who had now lost their last FIVE finals. The last time the team won the Liam MacCarthy trophy was 20 YEARS ago in 2005. For Tipperary, it meant they were able to reclaim the trophy for the first time since 2019. The BBC will continue to show the final until at least 2027, having signed a five-year deal back in 2022 with GAA.
