A venture by sisters Tallina Patnaik and Tanaya Patnaik, Odraa honours traditional recipes while presenting them with modern flair. Located at IRC Village, the restaurant is a cultural preservation project that celebrates the under-represented culinary legacy of Odisha. It was opened on June 14.
'There's so much more to Odia cuisine than people realise. Every region of our state has its own unique flavours and traditions. We wanted Odraa to be a place where people can truly experience the rich food culture of Odisha,' said Tanaya, a media entrepreneur and an advocate for the state's culture.
Odraa's menu showcases the state's culinary diversity through signature dishes including Kandhamal Roast (roasted sweet potato with greens and tomato relish), Chitou Pitha with Mutton Curry, Dahi Macchha, and the unique dessert Khiri Sarsatia.
The restaurant's commitment to authenticity extends to sourcing ingredients from across Odisha - Sarsatia from Sambalpur (a regional snack made from tree resin, now crafted by only two families), badi (lentil dumplings) from Keonjhar district, puffed rice from Baripada, and kora khai from the Old Town area.

Bahuda Yatra unites over 1,000 devotees in Nigeria's Lagos
1 2 Rourkela: Odia Samaj Association of Nigeria (OSAN) celebrated the Bahuda Yatra — the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra — with great fervour on Saturday, drawing over 1,000 devotees to the vibrant event in Lagos. The festival saw the deities ceremoniously return to the Lord Jagannath temple, built in Lagos in 2017 as a replica of the iconic Puri shrine. The event was marked by devotional songs and authentic Odia cuisine, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere for devotees far from home. The consulate general of India to Nigeria, Chandramouli Kern, and the head of chancery, N Mahesh, were among the dignitaries who joined the celebration. "The Lord Jagannath temple in Lagos is a shining example of the cultural exchange between India and Nigeria. We are proud to see it thriving as a spiritual hub for the community," Kern said. Prasant Das, President of OSAN, called the Bahuda Yatra an important symbol of unity for the diaspora. "This festival brings our community together and strengthens our bond. We are grateful to the consulate and dignitaries for their presence and support," Das told TOI. Shivkumar, president of the India Cultural Association, described the event as a moment of pride. "We thank the Odia Samaj for celebrating this great festival here, giving us an opportunity to receive the blessings of Lord Jagannath." Temple trustees Ramesh Biswal (Hindu Mandir Foundation) and Ashok Nayak (OSAN) expressed gratitude to the devotees for their enthusiastic participation, which they said filled the event with "high positive vibrations." OSAN had earlier celebrated the Rath Yatra on June 27.

Odisha: Puri witnesses huge influx of devotees on ‘Suna Besha'
Lakhs of devotees thronged the sacred coastal town of Puri on Sunday to witness the holy siblings - Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra - adorned with gold ornaments, weighing around 208 kilograms. The huge inflow of pilgrims got a glimpse of the holy triad dazzling with gold ornaments of hundreds of kilograms, which resulted in heavy traffic snarls in and around Puri. Earlier in the day, the Odisha Police had alerted devotees coming to Puri that the designated parking spots in the city had reached the maximum capacity. The vehicles carrying pilgrims to Puri are being advised to wait for some hours at Batgaon and Maltipatpur. 'Extremely heavy vehicle inflow from Bhubaneswar towards Puri at present. The present waiting time at Batgaon is around two hours. All devotees are requested to plan their visit accordingly,' informed the Odisha Police. The Police requested all to follow traffic advisories and cooperate with on-duty police personnel. The deities will be decorated with gold-made hands, feet, garlands with gold beads of different shapes and styles, golden crown, gold Chakra or discus, silver conch, gold ploughshare and pestle during the special ritual known as in the local Odia language as 'Suna Besha' or 'Rajarajeswar Besha', or 'Bada Tadhau Besha'. Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had earlier announced that devotees can get the Darsan of the deities from 6.30 pm to 11 pm on Sunday. 'Suna Besha' ritual of the holy siblings seated on the chariots started during the reign of Gajapati King Kapilendra Deva, following the request of a prominent servitor of the shrine, 'Tadhau Karana' in 1460 CE. The king who had returned victorious from a war with some Southern Indian rulers donated cartloads of gold, diamonds and other precious ornaments brought with him to the temple.
