Wimbledon: Novak Djokovic says a doctor's ‘miracle pills' helped his stomach during his win
Djokovic needed a break while trailing 2-1 in the third set at Centre Court and was seen again later in that set.
'I went from feeling my absolutely best for a set and a half to my absolute worst for about 45 minutes,' Djokovic said. 'Whether it was a stomach bug — I don't know what it is, but just struggled with that. The energy kind of kicked back after some doctor's miracle pills and I managed to finish the match on a good note.'
He improved to 20-0 in opening matches at the All England Club, where he has won seven of his 24 Grand Slam titles. He's been to the final at each of the last six editions, although he lost at that stage to Carlos Alcaraz in 2023 and 2024.
'I wouldn't be here if I didn't think I have a chance. I think I always have a chance. I think I earned my right to really feel like I can go all the way to the title,' the 38-year-old from Serbia said. 'I always felt like grass, particularly in the second part of my career, was really the surface where I played my best tennis. So why not do it again?'
Djokovic avoided the sort of upset that's been rampant on the tournament's initial two days: A total of 23 seeds — 13 men, 10 women — already is out of the field, tying the highest number at a Grand Slam tournament since 2001, when they began seeding 32 players in each singles bracket.
Did he consider stopping Tuesday because of how he was feeling?
'No,' he replied. 'I honestly wasn't thinking about that or taking that as an option.'

Djokovic accumulated a whopping 27 break points against the unseeded Muller, converting seven.
Across the 3 hours, 19 minutes, Djokovic only faced three break chances for Muller — none until the last set — and saved each.
'I came up with some big serves,' said Djokovic, who will face Dan Evans of Britain on Thursday. 'Overall, I served very well today. That's one of the things I've been working on.'

Tour de France: Philipsen wins first stage, Pogačar finishes safely
LILLE, France (AP) — Jasper Philipsen won the opening stage of the Tour de France in a sprint to the line while defending champion Tadej Pogačar finished safely on Saturday. Pogačar is looking to win the showcase race for a fourth time on the back of great form this season. Stage 1 took riders on a 185-kilometer (115-mile) route starting and ending in the northern city of Lille. Philipsen's Alpecin-Deceuninck teammate Mathieu van der Poel put him in a great position to pull clear in the last 100 meters and win by a clear margin for his 10th Tour stage win. Eritrean cyclist Biniam Girmay was second and Norwegian Søren Wærenskjold third. Pogačar and two-time Tour champion Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark were in the front group — finishing 18th and 20th, respectively — but did not contest the sprint. All finished in 3 hours, 53 minutes. Guillaume Boivin of Longueil, Que., finished 57th (3:53:50), while Ottawa's Michael Woods was 167th (3:59:42). Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel narrowly avoided after about 50 kilometers a crash which unseated Italian rider Filippo Ganna. He continued but later abandoned, as did Swiss rider Stefan Bissegger, caught in a separate crash. There was another crash later when Frenchmen Benjamin Thomas and Mattéo Vercher contested bonus points for the best climber's jersey. Thomas overtook Vercher at the line on the short cobblestoned ascent but lost control of his front wheel and swerved into him. They both fell but got up and continued. Sunday's second stage is a slightly hilly 209-kilometer trek from Lauwin-Planque to Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France and should again favor sprinters. This month's race stays in France for the duration, with no stages abroad as in previous years. It ends on July 27 in Paris. ___ AP sports:

Wimbledon: Jannik Sinner has dropped a record-tying 17 games through three matches so far
LONDON (AP) — As well as Jannik Sinner is playing at Wimbledon, he doesn't appear to need much in the way of help. Still, he got some Saturday when his opponent, Pedro Martinez, was dealing with a problematic shoulder and often put in first serves at so-so speeds. The No. 1-ranked Sinner has dropped a record-tying total of only 17 games so far, made his way to the fourth round for the seventh consecutive Grand Slam tournament — he's collected three such trophies in that span — and never was truly in trouble during a 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 victory over No. 52 Martinez.

Brazil striker Igor Jesus joins Nottingham Forest after starring at Club World Cup
NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — Brazil striker Igor Jesus, one of the stars of the ongoing Club World Cup, signed for Nottingham Forest from Botafogo on Saturday. The 24-year-old center forward scored twice for Botafogo at the tournament taking place in the United States, including the decider against Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain. Igor Jesus joined Botafogo from UAE team Shabab Al Ahli in July 2024 and and his impressive domestic form earned him a first call-up by Brazil for World Cup qualifiers in October and November. He scored on his debut, against Chile. 'I'm really happy to be a part of this new story, especially at a club like Nottingham Forest,' Igor Jesus said. 'I didn't have to think twice about the offer, I embraced it. I embraced the project that they sent me. I am delighted to be coming here and hope to do some great work.' Forest finished in seventh place in the Premier League last season after being in the Champions League places for much of the campaign.
