Bahrain Gets Bendy
Yoga mats are rolling out across Bahrain as the Indian Embassy launched its 25-day countdown to International Day of Yoga 2025 with a curtain raiser event at its premises, drawing participation from across the Kingdom.
Community stretch
The launch event brought together students from Embassy-run yoga classes, Indian community members, Embassy officials, and local yoga enthusiasts in a shared celebration of wellness and unity.
It marked the latest in a series of pre-Yoga Day initiatives, including earlier sessions held in April to commemorate the 75-day and 50-day milestones.
Officials said the campaign is part of a broader drive to promote healthy living and mindfulness through yoga, not just among the Indian diaspora, but across Bahrain's diverse communities.
Month of movement
Throughout June, the Embassy will continue hosting yoga-related activities leading up to the global celebration on June 21st, recognised worldwide as International Day of Yoga.
The calendar will include public sessions, outreach initiatives, and awareness campaigns highlighting the physical and mental benefits of yoga.
The Embassy has invited all yoga lovers and practitioners in Bahrain to join the movement and take part in the upcoming main event, describing it as an opportunity to connect with a global wave of wellness.
By building momentum throughout the month, the Indian Embassy hopes to highlight yoga as a tool for inner peace, cultural exchange, and cross-border harmony.

Al-Sahli emphasised that sustainability is not limited to environmental protection, but also encompasses civic values and public responsibility. Awareness and action The municipality had earlier conducted coordination meetings with representatives of mourning centres and civic partners to launch the campaign. Awareness drives encouraged residents to participate in waste sorting, reduce plastic use, and maintain the cleanliness of religious sites. 'This year, the campaign elevated sustainability beyond just waste management. It became a message about conscious citizenship,' Al-Sahli said. Council Chairman Eng. Saleh Tarada highlighted the strength of community partnerships as a pillar of municipal work, calling the cooperation between the municipality and funeral organisers a model for future initiatives. The Capital Municipality credited the success of this year's Ashura observance to the collective efforts of residents, volunteers, and partner agencies.

Legacy of Giving: Community-led with Digital Boost
TDT | Manama Bahrain's longest-running community health campaign marked its 27th edition on Friday with a new digital touch and a strong turnout of donors, honouring a tradition rooted in faith and public service. The Imam Hussain (PBUH) Blood Donation Campaign, launched under the slogan 'Blood in Your Name', collected 64 blood bags on its women-only opening day, while the second day for men saw a significantly larger response. Drive Organised by the residents of Al-Naeem and the campaign's Supreme Committee, the drive continues to stand as a symbol of collective humanitarian action during Muharram. Held in partnership with Al Hilal Healthcare Group for the second year, the campaign was hosted at the group's Manama Central branch. Dr. Fadel Al-Nasheet, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health for its ongoing support, particularly under the leadership of the minister, H.E. Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan. This year, a new digital appointment system was introduced to streamline the donation process. Consultations According to Al-Nasheet, the move followed consultations with local officials and civil society groups to improve donor access and operational efficiency. Dr. Sharat Chandran, CEO of Al Hilal Healthcare Group, said the campaign reflects the true spirit of community partnership and has become a permanent fixture in the group's annual commitments. Since 2000, the campaign has donated over 16,526 blood bags to the Central Blood Bank, cementing its legacy as one of Bahrain's most impactful grassroots health initiatives.
