The release said that in the incident Deputy Conservator of Forest Praveen was seen playing a a game on his mobile while Dr. Patil was chairing the meeting and giving instructions to the participating officers. The incident was telecasted by a private news channel.
Reacting to the incident, the Minister rebuked the officer and sent him out from the meeting hall. He further directed the Deputy Commissioner, Nitish K., to send a notice to him on his 'indecent' behaviour and also submit a report to the government for disciplinary action.

Farmer on night vigil killed in attack by 16-member herd of wild elephants in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district
A farmer, Ramakrishna Raju (55), was killed on the spot when a 16-member herd of wild elephants attacked him in a field at Kothuru village of Somala mandal in Chittoor district late on Saturday night. The incident triggered panic in several villages in the vicinity, as the herd was reportedly camping at a water body nearby. As per information, the herd emerged from the nearby thickets, strayed into the field, and attacked the unsuspecting victim who was on night vigil. The sudden charge left the farmer helpless. The villagers informed the forest officials that the herd had been resorting to crop raids after dusk for the last three days. Pawan condoles death Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan condoled the farmer's death and expressed solidarity with the family members. He announced that ex gratia would be given, and directed that the forest officials initiate corrective measures to prevent wild elephants from venturing into human habitations. Meanwhile, the incident led to angry protests on Sunday, with the villagers staging a blockade on the Tirupati-Punganur Road along with the body of the farmer, blaming the Forest Department for its 'gross negligence.' Raising slogans such as 'where are the Kumki elephants,' the villagers urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Mr. Pawan Kalyan to immediately intervene and do justice to the bereaved family. They demanded that a scientific action plan be worked out to put an end to the vexed man-animal conflict in the western mandals of the district. The villagers alleged that despite their repeated alerts about the movement of the wild elephants, there was no tangible action from the Forest Department. Senior forest officials rushed to Kothuru and pacified the agitators by assuring them compensation and corrective measures. The farmer's body was later shifted to the area hospital for autopsy.

Need seen for effective utilisation of funds earmarked for forest development
Member of Legislative Assembly H.R. Gaviappa on Thursday emphasised the need for effective utilisation of funds earmarked for forest development urging the Forest Department to take greater responsibility in conservation and afforestation efforts across Kalyana Karnataka. Speaking after launching the Vanamahotsava and Environmental Awareness Programme by planting a sapling at the Rajiv Nagar Park in the city, Mr. Gaviappa noted that the region between Hosapete and Chitradurga has some of the most expansive forest cover in Kalyana Karnataka. 'The department should scientifically explore using Tungabhadra river waters for forest zones. If pipeline systems are set up to divert river waters to lakes, it will improve groundwater levels and help trees remain green even during summer,' he said. He pointed out that such a move will also benefit farmers. 'Public visits to local wildlife spots like Daroji Bear Sanctuary and Atalji Zoological Park in Kamalapura should be encouraged. These areas are rich in biodiversity, including rare bird species such as the Great Indian Bustard. We need to preserve and promote such natural wealth,' he added. Campaign slogan Addressing a gathering, Assistant Conservator of Forests H. Anupama said that this year's campaign slogan encourages everyone to plant a sapling in the name of their mother, symbolising nurturing and care. 'Forests attract rainfall and play a key role in reducing pollution. We must instill awareness among children not just about education but also about environmental conservation,' she said. She called for priority to be given to greening efforts by planting more trees and protecting biodiversity. 'Every living being has a right to live on this planet. To report forest-related issues or animal poaching, citizens can call the forest helpline 1926,' she added. Planting drives Speaking on the occasion, Hosapete City Municipal Council Vice-President Ramesh Gupta said that Vanamahotsava should not be limited to a single day. 'We plan to extend tree planting drives to all 35 wards in the city and organise environment awareness activities across the municipality,' he said. Blossoms Kindergarten and High School headmaster Vivek, Rajiv Nagar Welfare Association president Katagi Gopal, Assistant Conservator of Forests Kirubanandan, other Forest Department staff, teachers, students and residents were present.

Forest personnel to be trained in handling firearms to hunt down crop-raiding wild boars, says Minister
The Department of Forest will soon provide firearms to the forest personnel after properly training them in handling the weapons to hunt down the wild boars entering the ranches and cause serious crop destruction, Minister for Forest R.S. Rajakannappan has said. Speaking to reporters after inspecting the Kalakkad Thalaiyanai and adjoining areas of Kalakkad – Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) on Friday, he said the Department of Forest was taking every possible step to avert wild animal invasion into the ranches either by digging trenches or erecting solar electric fences along the forest boundary being largely used by the wild animals. As places like Veppanahalli in Krishnagiri districts were witnessing frequent entry of wild elephants into the habitations close to the forest and the fields, electric fences were being put up in this place while forest personnel were working overtime to chase these animals back into the forest. The Forest Department was very much aware of the farmers' agonies due to the extensive crop damage being caused by the wild animals like elephant, deer, wild boars, bear and Indian gaur entering the fields from nearby forests. As the wild boars were being the wrecker in chief, firearms were to be given to the forest personnel after properly training them in handling these weapons. 'The well-trained forest personnel, as per the norms established by the forest department, will hunt down the wild boars entering the farms and destroy crops,' he said. The minister asserted that Tamil Nadu's forest cover, which stands at 21.76% now, would soon increase to 33%, thanks to the meticulous steps being taken by the department. The third wildlife biodiversity park of Tamil Nadu was coming-up near Tiruchi on 420 acres after Vandalur and Vellore parks. When asked about the possibility of establishing the second Forest College in Southern Tamil Nadu after the first one at Mettupalayam, he said he would discuss it with the Chief Minister. He denied the allegation that the Department of Forest was not regularising at regular intervals the services of the anti-poaching watchers with 10 years of service. 'They are being made permanent employees of Department of Forest on the completion of 10 years of service while other posts are being filled-up through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission,' Mr. Rajakannappan replied. On his inspection today, the minister said several development works were going on in Kalakkad, Thirukkurunkudi and Upper Gothaiyar ranges of KMTR and hence he visited this region to check the progress. Deputy Director of KMTR's Kalakkad Division Rameswaran, Kalakkad municipality chairperson Shanthi, vice-chairman P.C. Rajan, Kalakkad Forest Range Officer Prabhakaran and Thirukkurunkudi Forest Range Officer Yogeswaran were present.
