Yuri alleges multi-crore scam in which buildings are inserted in survey plans

Porvorim:
Opposition leader Yuri Alemao on Wednesday alleged a multi-crore scam in the directorate of settlement and land records amounting to Rs 300 crore. Department officials inserted over 400 structures into survey plans to facilitate development in CRZ and no-development zones, he said.
Alemao demanded that a judicial inquiry be ordered, headed by a retired judge, and an SIT be set up to examine this process. He said an FIR should be filed and the officials involved should be suspended. 'I demand that govt issue a white paper on the insertion of doubtful structures. These entries must be frozen, and the TCP department, panchayats and CRZ authorities should be subjected to re-verification,' he said.
While CM Pramod Sawant said he would conduct an inquiry, revenue minister Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate said that the structures included in the survey plan were reverted and govt would conduct an inquiry.
He said lower staff did the mischief of inserting the structures on the survey plan.
Earlier, Alemao said, 'A multi-crore land scam has unfolded... The directorate of settlement and land records... is at the centre of large-scale manipulation. This racket involves the fraudulent insertion of structures into official survey plans using BhuNaksha software.'
He alleged that more than 400 structures were added predominantly in CRZ and the prime coastal belt using digital tools.

These were illegally added to survey plans without physical verification or following any transparent and legal protocol.
'The going rate for one plot is said to be over Rs 1 crore for 300-400sqm plots, making this a Rs 300-crore scam. Private parties used this insertion to repair and construct by falsely presenting them as pre-existing structures,' Alemao said.

Tasmac MD Visakan likely to move out

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) is likely to get a new managing director soon since incumbent MD S Visakan's request for a transfer has received the government's nod, sources in the state secretariat said. A transfer order may be issued as early as next week, the sources added. It may be recalled that Visakan was inquired by the Enforcement Directorate, which conducted extensive raids in Tasmac, including its headquarters and the office of the MD in Egmore, in connection to what the agency later alleged as a scam worth Rs 1,000-crore. Besides Visakan, several other officials of Tasmac were also detained in their offices for hours during the searches. The ED also searched the premises of several private entities and individuals. Though the courts have provided interim stay preventing ED from proceeding further with its investigation in this case at the moment, sources said the atmosphere within Tasmac has become tense, with many officers feeling demoralised and under pressure.

Blind to rules? ‘Blind date' at Cubbon Park lands organiser in soup

BENGALURU: A planned 'Blind Date' event at Cubbon Park has come under scrutiny after the state horticulture department filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park Police Station against the organiser for not obtaining permission to host the event. The event, announced by 24-year-old Vineet Kathoria from Laggere, was listed on BookMyShow starting at Rs 999 and was scheduled to be held every Saturday and Sunday from August 2 to August 31, between 11 am and 1 pm. It invited participants to engage in anonymous, blindfolded conversations in the park, describing it as a space for 'meaningful exchanges without judgment'. Police sources told TNSE that Vineet, who had been pursuing a degree in computer science, had dropped out and is currently unemployed. The sudden online popularity of the event, which had already drawn interest from more than 1,400 people in less than 24 hours, prompted Kusuma G, Deputy Director of state Horticulture Department, Cubbon Park, to take note. Horticulture Department officials also mentioned that they will also check with BookMyShow, questioning how they allowed listing of an event at Cubbon Park without seeking prior permission.
