Contractor claims pressure to build wall before Simhachalam tragedy
The three-member committee, appointed by the State government, began its investigation into the incident in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
The committee members visited Simhachalam, and began examining the circumstances surrounding the wall collapse. Officials have been directed to submit a detailed report within 72 hours.
Rao, in his testimony to the committee, stated that he had initially refused to undertake the construction due to the extremely tight timeline before the festival. 'There was hardly any time left, and I clearly informed them that it wasn't feasible to build the wall in just six days,' he said. Despite his objections, Rao claimed that officials from both the Devasthanam and the Tourism Department insisted that he proceed with the project.
'They pressured me to build the wall. I was told it was only a temporary structure,' he added.
Rao further revealed that the construction work began just four days before Chandanotsavam, raising concerns about the quality of the work given the short time frame.

In what can be described as a better late than never move, Telangana police on Wednesday arrested the incumbent President of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) A Jagan Mohan Rao and four of his accomplices, doubling up as 'respectable' office-bearers, including treasurer C J Srinivas Rao and CEO Suneel Kante, on a slew of charges, such as forgery, coercion, graft, misappropriation of funds running into crores and blatant abuse of power. Alas, the execution of the cleansing operation has been overly delayed as calls for his head have been gathering momentum for years together. What cannot miss the eye of those closely following the embezzlement saga and the dictatorial rule is that the money swindled by Rao and his henchmen goes way above the Rs 2.3 crore that is being projected. If one goes by the manner bills have been inflated for procuring material like ACs, during the conduct of the Hyderabad leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) and other championships, shows that it has shelled down amounts that would put to shame the spendings on a big fat wedding. Not ironically, it was the SRH that came up with damning charges against the HCA, including harassment, intimidation and using pressure tactics. SRH, in fact, threatened to relocate its base from Hyderabad unable to bear the ill-treatment by the HCA 'gang', which also demanded more than the earmarked 3, 900 complimentary passes for each match played at RGICS. This case took-off after a complaint was lodged by Dharam Gurava Reddy, general secretary of Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) on June 9. Reddy charged that Rao, a 'master manipulator' who was never associated with the HCA or the game, contested its elections using fake documents and a forged cricket club membership to qualify for the 2023 elections. His candidature gained 'credibility' when it was backed by the equally notorious Gowlipura Cricket Club president G Kavita and her husband Rajender Yadav, its general secretary, who have since been arrested. A sad fallout has been that Hyderabad, which was once revered for churning out exceptionally gifted cricketers, is in doldrums, the domestic season seems like a ritual that has to be complied with and there has been no promotion at the district level. The dubious machinations of Rao have been so notoriously high that everyone associated with the sport in the state is hoping that this episode will mark Rao's Waterloo. Mark Antony's 'honourable man' suits men of Rao's ilk, who, as an official pointed out, out-surpass Brutus in terms of treachery and hanging on to power by hook or crook.

8,340 Cricket Balls For Over Rs 1 Crore: Allegations Against Arrested Hyderabad Cricket Body Chief
According to CID officials, the case involves forgery, cheating, misappropriation of funds, and criminal breach of trust The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) President A Jagan Mohan Rao and four other officials in connection with a large-scale embezzlement case. The arrests include HCA Treasurer C Srinivasa Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, Rajendra Yadav (General Secretary of Sri Chakra Cricket Club), and G Kavitha (President of the same club). A local court on Thursday remanded all five accused to judicial custody. According to CID officials, the case involves forgery, cheating, misappropriation of funds, and criminal breach of trust. One of the allegations involves the purchase of 8,340 cricket balls worth over Rs 1 crore from a company named M/s Indiana Sports, but no balls were ever delivered or recorded as distributed. What Does The Complaint Say? The case was registered following a complaint by Dharam Guruva Reddy, General Secretary of the Telangana Cricket Association. The FIR includes serious charges under Indian Penal Code sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (use of forged documents), 403 (misappropriation), 409 (criminal breach of trust), and 420 (cheating), among others. The CID stated that the accused did not follow tender procedures and violated the Telangana Public Procurement (Transparency) Act, 2017 and HCA's own by-laws. 'The accused persons have not followed the Tender Procedures and violated all General Principles laid in Telangana Public Procurement (Transparency) Act-2017 and the By-Laws of HCA and paid amount of Rs 1,03,74,118/ to M/s Indiana Sports towards purchase of 8,340 cricket balls, the investigation established that, no single ball was received and distributed to the concerned as per records and it clearly shows that the total amount was misappropriated," the report said. In addition to the cricket ball scandal, another payment of Rs 56.84 lakh was made for clothing and dress material, again without any delivery or record of distribution. Investigators allege this money too was misappropriated. Forged Documents The CID also revealed that Rao allegedly colluded with Rajendra Yadav and his wife G Kavitha to forge documents of a cricket club (Gowlipura Cricket Club) under the name of Sri Chakra Cricket Club. These documents were used to gain illegal entry into the HCA elections, enabling Rao's election as president in October 2023. The HCA president is also under scrutiny for alleged misconduct during the IPL 2025 season. Rao and other HCA officials reportedly pressured Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for extra match tickets, corporate boxes, and complimentary passes for personal use and sale. SRH had accused Rao of intimidation, coercion, and blackmail, even threatening to move the franchise out of Hyderabad. Following this, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had ordered a probe. The Vigilance Commission confirmed the allegations and recommended action. Jagan Mohan Rao was elected HCA president in October 2023. He had founded the Akshara Educational Society in 2010 with six schools. He also founded two NGOs to provide educational facilities and create employment prospects. He also served as the president and general secretary of the Handball Federation of India, chairman of the Premier Handball League and as the president of the Telangana Handball Association.
