Indian Map Without Telangana? BRS' KT Rama Rao Fumes At Andhra BJP Chief
The BRS on Thursday strongly objected to Andhra Pradesh BJP chief P V N Madhav presenting a map titled "Glory of Indian Culture" to Minister Nara Lokesh in which Telangana was reportedly not visible.
BRS Working President K T Rama Rao, in a post on 'X', urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify whether the omission reflected the BJP's "political agenda or plan".
Mr Rao said that people had fought for generations for a cultural identity, rightful place in history, and geographical recognition for Telangana.

When contacted, Mr Madhav told PTI that the map was a framed artistic picture with only a thin line separating Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
In his post, Mr Rao claimed: "Today, your Andhra Pradesh BJP chief, Madhav garu, has belittled our struggle by gifting a map of a united Andhra Pradesh, ignoring the existence of Telangana. This is absolutely unacceptable and reflects a blatant disregard for the people of Telangana—for our state, our struggle, and the sacrifices of our martyrs and history." He added that if the omission was a genuine oversight, the BJP leadership should apologise to the people of Telangana.
Mr Madhav met Mr Lokesh on Wednesday in Vijayawada after assuming charge as the Andhra BJP president and presented him with the portrait.

BJP set to announce new party president after August 15, four candidates among front-runners
NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to announce the consensus candidate for the party's new national president after Independence Day, following the completion of organisational elections in some states. The delay in selecting the new president has created an unfavourable impression, even among party cadres. The RSS – the ideological mentor of the BJP – has reportedly advised reaching a consensus on a candidate with organisational experience and a neutral stance within the party. Sources also stated that the BJP has zeroed in on four potential candidates, all of whom have organisational experience. Union ministers Bhupendra Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and senior BJP leader BD Sharma are said to be the front-runners as they meet the criteria for the post. The party is preparing to first call a meeting of its central council to build a consensus around one of the names under consideration.

Bengaluru ranks 36th among 44 Indian cities in Swachh Survekshan audit
Bengaluru has secured the 36th position out of 44 cities in the 'above 10 lakh population' category in the Swachh Survekshan 2024, the annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). In the previous year, the 'above 10 lakh' category was dropped. However, in 2022, Bengaluru had ranked 43rd among 45 participating cities in the same category. This year's result marks an improvement of eight positions compared to the 2022 ranking. In 2023, Bengaluru ranked 125th out of 446 cities in the 'above one lakh population' category. Top performers Gujarat's Ahmedabad topped the 'above 10 lakh' category with a score of 12,079, followed closely by Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) with 12,067 points and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) with 12,001. Bengaluru scored 6,842. In the 'Super Swachh League City' category, Mysuru secured 5th place. In the State-wise rankings, Bengaluru stood at 15th. Davangere emerged as the top-performing city in Karnataka with a score of 9,131, followed by Hubballi-Dharwad and Hosadurga. 'Room for improvement' BBMP Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao acknowledged that Bengaluru has room for improvement and expressed confidence in better results in the future. 'We have good plans for managing construction debris and solid waste, which will improve our standing in the next survey. We are currently transitioning to an Integrated Solid Waste Management system. Once that is in place, we will rank better,' Mr. Rao told The Hindu. However, activists say that Bengaluru should have done much better. 'Bengaluru is losing score in a few parameters consistently since the last three Swachh Survekshan audits, among which is waste processing,' V. Ramprasad, a civic activist, said. He said that Mysuru has improved substantially despite collecting less money from people when compared to Bengaluru. How is it calculated Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) were assessed quarterly across four phases. They updated their Management Information System (MIS) monthly, which was validated through citizen feedback and reviewed by third-party assessors. Indicator-wise progress was documented and verified during the final survey in February 2025. The new Swachh Survekshan indicators focused on cleanliness, waste segregation, collection, processing, landfill and dumpsite management, wastewater treatment, reuse, and faecal sludge management. MoHUA conducted virtual sessions with States and ULBs to explain the methodology. Citizen engagement was vital, supported by digital, social, and traditional media campaigns to raise awareness and promote participation in the cleanliness mission.

Rent pacts with developers of buildings under redevelopment to be accepted for passport: Minister
MUMBAI : Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for police verification for obtaining a passport are prepared by the Centre, but the Maharashtra government will look into problems faced by citizens whose residential buildings are under redevelopment, a minister said on Wednesday. Speaking in the assembly, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam (Urban) noted address verification for a passport is a national security issue and the exercise involves the applicant's identity and details provided in the application, including pending criminal cases, if any. Notably, police verification for issuance of the overseas travel document is conducted at the applicant's residential address and redevelopment of old buildings leads to temporary change in home location of people who resided in such buildings. Manisha Chaudhari (BJP) pointed out that several housing societies in Mumbai have opted for redevelopment and their residents, staying elsewhere temporarily, are facing problems in completing police verification process, a necessary prerequisite for getting a passport. ''Police don't take bank passbooks, Aadhaar, PAN card, voter card, society redevelopment documents into consideration for passport verification,'' she complained. Kadam highlighted that residential address verification for the key document, issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is a national security issue. "(To check) criminal antecedents (if any) of an individual is also necessary,'' the minister replied, adding there is a provision for mentioning both temporary and permanent addresses in passport application. Ameet Satam (BJP) objected to the reply, contending he doubted if a provision is there for both addresses in the application form. Passport data is used to locate those who have violated laws so it needs to be accurate, the minister told the lower house. "If SOPs are not followed and citizens are subjected to hardships, it will look into it,'' Kadam assured, adding rent receipts are considered a residential address proof for passport renewal. Kadam emphasised residential addresses provided in passport application have to be thoroughly verified by police as per guidelines laid down by the central government. Applicants are required to furnish both permanent and current addresses. "Police verification will be strictly carried out at the current address mentioned in the application. Instructions will be issued to the police department accordingly," the minister said. The minister explained that the purpose of police verification is to confirm the identity of the applicant and check for any pending criminal cases, summons, or warrants. "This process is crucial for national security. Police officials are mandated to visit the applicant's address physically to verify the details," Kadam added. Referring to issues arising during redevelopment of buildings whose residents are temporarily relocated, the minister clarified that temporary addresses, supported by rent agreements provided by real estate developers, will be taken into consideration for verification. Kadam asserted the state government follows the SOPs issued by the MEA, and steps are being taken to integrate technology, including artificial intelligence and digital passport apps, to make the process more efficient and transparent. The government will launch an awareness campaign to inform citizens that police verification is conducted at the address where the passport applicant is currently residing and mentioned in the form, he added.
