Leviathan OTT Release Date: When and where to watch the anime adaptation of Scott Westerfeld's acclaimed novel

Time of India08-06-2025
Leviathan OTT Release Date: If you're a fan of steampunk, anime, or just love a good story with sky-faring monsters and runaway royals, mark your calendars. Leviathan, the anime adaptation of Scott Westerfeld's bestselling novel, is landing on Netflix on July 10, and it's one of the biggest anime premieres of the year.
It's being crafted by some of the most respected names in the industry - Studio Orange, known for their jaw-dropping CG animation in BEASTARS and Trigun Stampede, and Qubic Pictures, the creative force behind Eden and Star Wars: Visions. Together, they're bringing Westerfeld's alternate World War I universe to life like never before with walking tanks, flying whales, and a living airship that's as much a character as the people aboard it.
What's the plot of Leviathan?
Set in an alternate 1914, Leviathan reimagines the start of World War I through a steampunk lens. The world is divided into two technological factions: the Darwinists, who engineer living creatures into war machines, and the Clankers, who rely on iron, gears, and diesel.
At the heart of it all are Prince Aleksandar, a young heir of the Austro-Hungarian Empire forced into hiding after his parents' assassination, and Deryn Sharp, a brilliant Scottish girl who disguises herself as a boy to serve in the British Air Service. Their fates collide aboard the HMS Leviathan, a massive genetically modified whale-ship that floats across the sky as part of the British fleet.
Meet the cast and crew of Leviathan
Leviathan brings together an elite voice cast:
Ayumu Murase (Haikyu!!, Devilman Crybaby) as Prince Aleksandar (Alek)
Natsumi Fujiwara (Spy x Family, The Orbital Children) as Deryn Sharp
Directed by Christophe Ferreira, Leviathan is written by Yuichiro Kido. The CG direction is being handled by heavyweights Takayuki Miyakoda, Maiko Iketani, Syunsuke Aoki, and Tadao Morohashi, with Eiji Inomoto as the CG Chief Director. The score is composed by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, Metal Gear Solid 4), with original songs by none other than Joe Hisaishi, the legend behind Studio Ghibli classics like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

Sanya Malhotra Celebrates National Award For Kathal: 'I'm Deeply Honoured'

Last Updated: Sanya Malhotra celebrated her Netflix satire Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery winning the National Film Award for Best Hindi Film. The National Award winners were announced on August 1. Sanya Malhotra is over the moon as her Netflix satire Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery clinched the National Film Award for Best Hindi Film (Feature). Reacting to the honour, Sanya expressed heartfelt gratitude to the team behind the film and shared how special the project has been for her. 'I'm deeply honoured that Kathal has been awarded the National Award for Best Hindi Film," Sanya said in a statement, adding, 'This story has been very special to me, and I'm grateful to Guneet Monga and Achin Jain, and the entire team for trusting me with such a unique role." Directed by Yashowardhan Mishra, Kathal is a satirical social commentary cleverly disguised as a quirky mystery. The film blends humour with a sharp take on bureaucracy, gender dynamics, and media spectacle — all wrapped around the case of two missing jackfruits. Sanya's performance as a determined young cop investigating the bizarre case earned praise for its sincerity and nuance. 'The film reflects important social realities with satire and heart, and I'm so glad it resonated with audiences. This recognition encourages me to continue choosing meaningful cinema," she added, thanking the jury and all those who supported the film. Actor Anantvijay Joshi, who was a part of Kathal, spoke to News18 Showsha after Kathal won big at National Awards. 'I just received a call from somebody to congratulate me and that is how I got to know. It seems quite right for a film like Kathal, which is so cleverly written and made with so much love and good intent. It is a great satire. I think it feels very, very gratifying," the actor shared. Anantvijay also recalled the time he was working on the movie and shared that he never expected that the film will win the National Award one day. 'We were only enjoying what was written and how it was written while we were shooting for it. I don't think we ever had a conversation about awards because all of us on sets considered that Kathal was not particularly very award-driven. But we were very sure that people would really appreciate this film," he stated. Apart from Kathal, 2023 was a significant year for Sanya, who also appeared in Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan and Meghna Gulzar's Sam Bahadur, both of which went on to win National Awards. Meghan Markle thinks she is ‘finished' if this Netflix factor doesn't work out

Meghan Markle is grappling with the disappointing performance of her latest Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, per Radar Online. Meghan Markle's latest Netflix venture, With Love, Meghan, faced disappointing viewership, failing to sustain its initial popularity. The show failed to make Netflix's top 300 most-watched shows for the first half of 2025. Despite initially landing in the Top 10 in 47 countries at launch, it struggled to maintain traction, ranking only 383rd globally with just over 5 million minutes streamed. In comparison, the leading series during that period amassed 145 million minutes. 'She believed she had nailed it – brought in top talent, invested a huge amount into production, and was assured it would be a major success.' Although Netflix has greenlit a second season of With Love, Meghan, sources say the Duchess is still feeling anxious about the future. 'She's pushing through. But underneath it all, she's nervous. This was meant to be her big Hollywood comeback – now she's terrified it's all slipping away,' the source said. Now, as one insider put it, Meghan's been confiding in close friends with a heavy heart: 'I'm finished if this doesn't work out.' Meghan Markle's 'make-or-break moment' The underwhelming reception reportedly blindsided Meghan, who has been deeply involved in the production and branding of her content under the couple's reported $100 million Netflix deal. 'She keeps insisting something's gone wrong, but deep down, she knows people just aren't tuning in,' the insider added. 'Harry's doing his best to reassure her, saying it's just a setback and they're still relevant.' 'She's an ex-actress who understands how the brutal showbiz industry works – friendships won't change the fact that the numbers don't lie,' the insider added. The couple is reportedly close with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and his wife, Nicole Avant, but still, the Duchess is aware of the stakes. 'She knows this is a make-or-break moment,' another source told Radar Online. 'She has to look like a success to bring in backers, but negative press like this makes securing deals a lot more difficult,' a source shared.
