Police Bust Escort Agent's Network With ‘Jungle Resort Night out' Trap
Nagpur: In a dramatic sting operation, Nagpur's Social Security Branch (crime branch) dismantled a sophisticated interstate sex trafficking network on Friday. Cops also raided a Kamptee-based lodge in back-to-back actions under Operation Shakti, rescuing seven women in Friday's two raids. The action at Ganeshpeth exposed an escort gang operating a pan-India online sex trade, luring women with false promises of quick money and trapping them in prostitution. Meanwhile, another operation busted a lodge owner's nexus with a woman pimp at Kamptee. The city police, under CP Ravinder Singal, joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, and coordinator of Operation Shakti DCP Mahek Swami, had already issued a strict warning to owners of hotels, lodges, and service apartments against allowing their premises for flesh trade activities and human trafficking . The city police also released signage for hotels and lodges on Saturday, declaring 'zero tolerance' towards prostitution as per the ongoing operations. The first raid, executed near a hotel in the vicinity of the Ganeshpeth bus stand, targeted an elusive escort agent operating high-society bookings via a dedicated web portal. The police set a trap, baiting the gang with a fake invitation for a "jungle safari night out" at a Pench resort for top clients. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Five women, summoned from Delhi, Kolkata, and Odisha, were rescued after cabbie Sumit Ghate, linked to masterminds Rahul and Sachin, accepted cash from a police informer. Ghate was arrested, and police seized Rs21,000 from his possession. Rahul and Sachin, believed to be from Navi Mumbai, remain absconding. Sources revealed the duo supplied women, having fake Aadhaar cards, from Mumbai and evaded arrest for years despite prior rescues of women from their network in Nagpur. The raid, under DCP Rahul Maknikar and led by senior inspector Rahul Shire, assistant PI Shivaji Nanaware, and constables Ashwin Bhange, Sameer Shaikh, and Kunal Masram, unfolded between 5.40pm and 12.30am. A case was registered at Ganeshpeth police station based on Masram's complaint. In a parallel operation, PI Shire's team targeted a lodge-based sex racket at Aajani Village, arresting pimp Lata Belekar (65) and lodge manager Ishan Bhoyar (21). The raid followed a police warning to lodge owners against facilitating prostitution. Two women were rescued, having been deceived into the trade. Lodge owner Amol Manavatkar, also charged, remains at large. A case was filed based on head constable Kishor Thakre's complaint at New Kamptee Police Station. Operation Shakti continues, with efforts to apprehend absconding suspects and disrupt their networks. The rescued women are receiving support, and authorities urge citizens to report suspicious activities to aid ongoing investigations. No Foreigner Detention Camps In Maha, State Govt Tells HC
Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court recently referred the case of prolonged detention of a Nigerian national — despite being granted bail 10 months ago — to a larger bench for consideration as a public interest litigation (PIL), after govt authorities failed to transfer the accused to any foreigner detention centre. The accused, Emeka Udenje, was arrested on May 21, 2023, from Delhi by Nagpur Police's cyber cell, in connection with sections under Indian Penal Code for cheating and criminal breach of trust and Section 14 of Foreigners Act. He was remanded in judicial custody on May 27. On June 19, 2024, the judicial magistrate first class, Nagpur, granted Udenje bail on furnishing a Rs50,000 bond and a surety. Given his lapsed passport and visa, the court directed that he be placed in a foreigner detention centre to ensure his presence during trial, suggesting coordination with the district collector. After complying with the bail conditions, Udenje was released from Nagpur Central Jail on September 24, 2024, but was immediately detained again at the city's cyber police station. His application before the sessions court to modify the detention condition was rejected, prompting him to move the HC through counsels Madan Puranik and HR Nanoti. In a hearing before Justice Urmila Joshi-Phalke, govt lawyer initially submitted that detention facilities existed at Taloja and Bhoiwada in Mumbai. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? But two months later, when no transfer was executed, Udenje filed a fresh application, prompting the court to seek clarification. On inquiry, the govt reversed its stand, stating that no foreigner detention centres were operational in Maharashtra. Concerned with this contradiction and continued illegal detention of a foreign national despite being granted bail, the court observed: "Now there is an issue where foreign nationals are to be kept. There are two other foreign nationals, and the investigating agency is unable to decide their accommodation and detention. This aspect is to be dealt with by this court." Justice Joshi-Phalke noted, "If the foreign nationals are permitted to be released, there would be an apprehension of them fleeing away and difficulty in securing their presence." In view of the unresolved systemic concerns, the court directed that Udenje's case be placed before Bombay HC division bench at Nagpur as a PIL. The order was also forwarded to the registrar (judicial) for necessary action. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !

Credit card ‘agent' dupes shopkeeper on pretext of info update
Bhopal: An alleged outsourced employee of a nationalised bank's credit card section at the Lalghati branch allegedly duped a general store owner of Rs 2.05 lakh under the pretext of updating his credit card. The accused, posing as a credit card 'service agent', took the shopkeeper's old credit card and mobile phone on the pretext of issuing a new card and siphoned off money using an online wallet application. Acting on the complaint, Koh-e-Fiza police registered a case on charges of fraud against the accused on Friday and started investigations. According to police, Ashok Jaiswal, 60, a resident of Janki Nagar, Lalghati, runs a provision store on Gufa Mandir Road. He already had a credit card from a nationalised bank, which was set to expire on July 31. As he was receiving messages and calls regarding the card's renewal, he visited the bank's Lalghati branch on July 31 to inquire about it. At the branch, he met Arjun Meena, who claimed to be an outsourced employee handling credit card services. Arjun assured Ashok that he would assist in renewing the card. He took Ashok's old credit card and mobile phone, claiming they were needed for the update process. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Check Out These 15 Sculptures That Go Beyond Art Undo After spending some time with Ashok, Arjun went inside the bank with the card and phone. Later, he returned to Ashok's shop and informed him that the card could not be processed that day and would be ready by the next day. On the morning of August 1, Arjun visited Ashok's shop again and asked for his credit card and mobile phone, citing the need to complete the update. Ashok handed them over once again. About 15 minutes later, Arjun returned, claiming that the process could not be completed and returned the card and phone. Soon after, Ashok received a message indicating a transaction of Rs1.95 lakh was debited from his credit card account. He rushed to the bank to verify and found that a total of Rs2.05 lakh was fraudulently transferred from his account — Rs10,000 on July 31 and Rs1.95 lakh on August 1. The amount was transferred to Arjun Meena's account using a mobile wallet application. Ashok Jaiswal, with the help of his family, confronted Arjun Meena and brought him to the police station. The police have taken Arjun into custody and are interrogating him regarding the fraud. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !
