Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich predictions, odds and betting tips

The Sun3 days ago
THE standout clash of the quarter-finals has to be the showdown between European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
PSG are probably the top team in world football at the moment. Despite this, Bayern has the players to hurt the Parisians and with Harry Kane fresh from scoring a brace in his last match, the Germans will be tough opponents.

PSG vs Bayern Munich predictions
Paris Saint-Germain are currently playing football on another level. As a result, they are the betting favourites to add the Club World Cup to the domestic French treble and Champions League titles they have already won this season.
The Parisians started the competition in impressive style, thumping Atletico Madrid 4-0. That result saw the bookies make PSG the favourites to win outright.
Remarkably, Luis Enrique's team lost their second match 1-0 to Botafogo. At the time, it was the shock result of the competition.
Paris didn't take long to bounce back. They confirmed their place in the knockout stages with a comfortable 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders.
Then in the Round of 16, PSG were well and truly back to their best. The European champions thrashed Inter Miami 4-0, but the reality is they could easily have put nine or ten past the MLS team.
Bayern Munich started their campaign to win the Club World Cup with a 10-0 win over Auckland City. They followed that up with a battling 2-1 win over Boca Juniors - the victory confirmed their place in the Round of 16 with one match to spare.
With only the top spot in the group left to play for, Munich were slightly off the pace and lost their final group match 1-0 to Benfica. The second placed finish in Group C meant Bayern had to face Flamengo in the Round of 16.
This was a real heavyweight clash between two historical names. Munich raced into a two goal lead, but the Brazilians didn't cave in and halved the deficit after 33 minutes.
Bayern again assumed control by going 3-1 up just before halftime, but again, Flamengo fought back with a Jorginho penalty getting the Brazilians back into the match ten minutes into the second half.
Finally, Harry Kane put the game to bed with his second goal after 73 minutes. The 4-2 win sets Bayern up nicely for their showdown with PSG.
PSG vs Bayern Munich betting tips
PSG are 13/20 favourites to reach the semi-finals. Bayern are priced at 23/20 to be the team that prevents Luis Enrique's all-conquering side from adding yet another trophy to their growing collection. Our PSG vs Bayern Munich betting tips follow:
PSG to win
Despite bouncing back to win the Bundesliga this season, Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich team always looked vulnerable against top level competition in Europe.
The Bavarians lost three times in the Champions League group stages, away to Barcelona, Aston Villa and Feyenoord.
It's true that PSG also slipped up, but when it mattered most at the business end of the season, Paris found a way to win, while Bayern crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage to Inter Milan.
We expect that theme to follow at the Club World Cup. If you prefer more security, PSG are 13/20 to qualify for the next round by any method - but we think PSG will do it in the 90 minutes and are happy to back this at the better odds.
Ousmane Dembélé to score anytime
Ousmane Dembélé has had an insane season for PSG. After 33 goals and 15 assists, he is rightly being talked up as a potential Ballon d'Or winner.
Dembélé did go slightly off the boil at the end of the season and he missed the start of the Club World Cup due to injury.
He made his first appearance at the competition against Inter Miami last weekend, and with 28 minutes in the bank, he should play a role against Bayern.
Given the season he has had, don't be surprised if Dembélé makes his mark on the Club World Cup with a crucial goal.
PSG to score over 1.5 goals
PSG have scored two or more goals in three of their four FIFA Club World Cup matches and in four of their previous five Champions League matches. In the big matches, they deliver.
Bayern are one of the top clubs in Europe and are the toughest test that PSG will have faced in the competition. But, the Bavarians are also very open and prone to conceding goals.

Lionel Messi 'is in talks with SHOCK Saudi club' as he enters final months of Inter Miami deal, setting up potential reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo

Lionel Messi is reportedly in talks with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli as speculation over his future continues to ramp up. Messi, 38, has been a transformative signing for Inter Miami since joining in 2023, with the Argentine icon scoring 52 goals and adding 25 assists in just 64 games for the David Beckham-owned side. His current contract expires at the end of 2025 and while Miami are desperate to extend Messi's deal, he has been linked with a fresh challenge. And, according to French outlet L'Equipe, a move to Saudi Arabia could be on the table. Back in 2023 when Messi left PSG, the forward was heavily linked with a transfer to the Middle East during the summer in which the Saudi Pro League (SPL) started making big splashes in the market. In fact, the 38-year-old was said to reject an unprecedented $400m-a-year (£294m) offer from Al-Hilal, who went on to sign Messi's former team-mate Neymar instead. And, according to the report, SPL figures have not given up hope of convincing Messi to join Al-Ahli, one of four clubs who are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, alongside Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad. Although Miami are negotiating a one-year contract extension with Messi, the report adds that Al-Ahli have been trying to convince the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner to join them for several weeks. The finances involved in any potential deal have not been reported, but Al-Ahli are doing all they can to make a move possible. The reports in regards to Saudi interest in Messi come with the 38-year-old having previously signed a three-year deal worth approximately $25m (£18.4m) with the Saudi Tourism Authority to promote the kingdom. Messi has also previously opened up on the Saudi interest in him in 2023 and hinted that it is an option that could be possible in the future. 'I was thinking a lot about going to the Saudi league,' he told TIME Magazine in March. 'I know the country and they have created a very powerful competition that can become an important league in the near future. 'As the country's tourism ambassador, it was a destination that attracted me, especially because I've enjoyed everything I have visited, because of how football is growing in the country and because of the effort they are putting into creating a top competition. 'It was Saudi Arabia or MLS, and both options seemed very interesting to me.' If Messi was to join Al-Ahli, who won the AFC Champions League in 2024-25, he would join former Premier League stars Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy and Ivan Toney in their squad. He would also come back into direct competition with his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese superstar signed a new contract with Al-Nassr. Meanwhile, Messi was recently in action at the Club World Cup before Miami were knocked out in the last-16 stage by his former club PSG after a 4-0 defeat. Nevertheless, reflecting on Instagram after the game, Messi expressed his pride at his side's performance. 'Today marks the end of the Club World Cup for us with a defeat against the current Champions League champions, where there are people I appreciate and I was happy to see again,' he said. 'We're proud to have achieved our goal of finishing among the top 16 in the tournament. Now let's focus on MLS and everything that's coming up.' Following that tournament, Messi was back in MLS action on Sunday and scored twice as Miami beat Montreal 4-1.

Malo Gusto backs Chelsea's ‘mental strength' in bid for Club World Cup glory

Malo Gusto has no doubt Chelsea have the mental strength to win the Club World Cup. The London side take on Fluminense for a place in the final in New York on Tuesday. Advertisement Chelsea suffered a tough defeat to Flamengo in the group stage but have bounced back to reach the last four with hard-fought wins over Benfica and Palmeiras. French defender Gusto said: 'During this competition, our mental strength has been the most important thing. 'That's why we are in the semi-final, because we've shown that on the pitch during all the games that we have had. 'We know the weather is tough, the pitch too, and all the teams are very good. There are many things are around the game and we have to deal with it. Advertisement 'That's why this competition is so hard to play and that's why we are so happy to get this far. 'I think if we can overcome these hurdles we can do anything and that's why we must believe in ourselves, give our best and see what goes after. We have a chance of the trophy and that's what we must try to do.' Moises Caicedo could be back in action in the semi-final (Rafal Oleksiewicz/PA) Chelsea will have Moises Caicedo available again at the MetLife Stadium after suspension and will hope Reece James and Romeo Lavia can overcome knocks. Liam Delap and Levi Colwill are banned after collecting their second bookings of the tournament against Palmeiras. Gusto forced the late winner in the 2-1 quarter-final triumph over Palmeiras when his cross took two deflections and found its way into the Brazilians' net. Advertisement He said: 'It's important to do different things on the pitch. The coach asked me to do that and I tried to help the team as much as I can and I'm so happy to win through these games.'

Hinshelwood 'champing at the bit to get going again'

Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood says he is "champing at the bit to get going again" after winning the Under-21 European Championship with the Young Lions title capped off an exciting few weeks for the Albion man, who became a father just three days before the tournament began. "It was a crazy sort of start," he told the Brighton website. "It was an amazing month."To be part of the under-21 team winning the Euros was very special. I loved every moment of it and I wish I could do it all again."But there will be no rest for the 20-year-old as he has chosen to return for pre-season training on Tuesday with the rest of the first-team squad."The club offered me time off but I said I was going to be at home anyway so I might as well come in."I'm so excited already to go back and join the lads again and get going, because the way we finished last season I'm just champing at the bit to get going again."
