Tencent Cloud and forGIFT Inc. Join Forces to Transform Virtual Fitting in Japan's Fashion Industry
HONG KONG, July 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Tencent Cloud, the cloud business of global technology company Tencent, today announced a strategic collaboration with Tokyo-based entertainment production and digital fashion studio forGIFT Inc. Together, the two companies aim to bring AI-powered virtual fitting solutions to Japan's fashion industry—bridging back-end production and front-end retail experiences through a unified, digital-first workflow.
Founded in 2017, forGIFT Inc. has supported leading fashion and lifestyle brands including X-girl, DAZN, and Anker, helping them reduce apparel sampling costs by approximately 20% while delivering immersive experience in the metaverse. As the company sought to scale its growing archive of image assets for e-commerce, Tencent Cloud emerged as a strategic partner—offering outfit changes in just 10 seconds and seamless API integration with shopping carts and online storefronts, all while maintaining high interoperability across consumer-facing systems. This prompted forGIFT Inc. to explore how such technology could be applied to their own creative planning proposals, opening new possibilities for client engagement and solution design.
Through the partnership, forGIFT Inc. integrated Tencent Cloud's advanced portrait segmentation and image generation technologies—including the "ChangeClothes" Virtual Try-On API and Portrait-Segmentation SDK—into its proprietary "sture" 3DCG fashion sampling pipeline. The resulting solution enables both rapid digital sample creation and real-time, hyper-personalized virtual fitting experiences—dramatically reducing the time, cost, and environmental impact of traditional sampling workflows.
Building on this foundation, Tencent Cloud's low-latency infrastructure and Tencent Real-Time Communication SDKs support interactive "shop-along" styling sessions and influencer livestreams with sub-300 ms delay—delivering immersive, real-time try-on experiences for today's digital shoppers. These innovations are designed to meet fast-growing demand as Japan's fashion e-commerce, custom apparel, and metaverse segments continue to expand at double-digit rates.
With sustainability and digital transformation shaping the future of fashion, the collaboration between Tencent Cloud and forGIFT Inc. directly addresses a critical market demand—one that no rival has yet met with a unified, locally hosted solution. By combining forGIFT Inc.'s 3DCG production expertise with Tencent Cloud's AI-powered virtual fitting capabilities, the partnership delivers a first-of-its-kind, end-to-end pathway from digital garment creation to immersive, consumer-ready "try-before-you-buy" shopping.
As part of the rollout, forGIFT Inc. leads the local go-to-market strategy—overseeing brand engagement, co-developing showcase projects, and delivering implementation support. Tencent Cloud provides ongoing technical and operational guidance, from onboarding brand apparel to advising on demo execution and display optimization. These efforts have already accelerated adoption and supported forGIFT Inc.'s broader growth strategy.
The joint solution is now being promoted to both independent labels and major fashion houses across Japan, with broader rollouts planned throughout 2025. By 2026, forGIFT Inc. aims to scale its end-to-end virtual try-on service to support at least 50 Japanese fashion brands, helping reduce both sample costs and carbon waste across the industry.
Hanson Liu, Head of Tencent Cloud Japan, said, "Our collaboration with forGIFT Inc. reflects Tencent Cloud's commitment to enabling smarter, experience-driven retail journeys. Together, we are delivering a locally hosted, turn-key solution that helps fashion brands reduce sampling lead times and cost, lower their environmental impact, and engage consumers through immersive, real-time virtual interaction."
Takafumi Shirai, President of forGIFT Inc., said, "This collaboration marks a major step forward in redefining how digital fashion is experienced and delivered. By working closely with Tencent Cloud, we have been able to push the boundaries of digital sampling and consumer engagement. It has been a pleasure throughout, and we look forward to expanding our efforts together."

LG enters global AI race with hybrid Exaone 4.0 model
Combining large language understanding with advanced reasoning, Korea's first hybrid AI excels in coding, math, science, professional domains LG AI Research, the artificial intelligence arm of LG Group, on Tuesday unveiled Exaone 4.0, Korea's first "hybrid" AI model that combines the language fluency of large language models with the advanced problem-solving abilities of reasoning AI. This breakthrough represents a major leap in Korea's ambition to lead in next-generation AI, as the model can both understand human language and logically reason through complex tasks. 'We will continue to advance research and development so that Exaone can become Korea's leading frontier AI model and prove its competitiveness in the global market,' said LG AI Research's Exaone lab leader Lee Jin-sik. Globally, only a few companies have announced similar hybrid AI architectures, including US-based Anthropic with its Claude model and China's Alibaba with Qwen. OpenAI is reportedly working on GPT-5, which is expected to adopt a hybrid structure as well. In benchmark evaluations across a variety of domains — including knowledge comprehension, problem-solving, coding, scientific reasoning and mathematics — Exaone 4.0 outperformed leading open-weight models from the US, China and France, establishing itself as one of the world's most capable AI models. LG introduced two versions of the model: a 32B expert model with 32 billion parameters and a lighter 1.2B on-device model with 1.2 billion parameters. The expert model successfully passed written exams for six national professional licenses, including those for physicians, dentists, Korean medicine doctors, customs brokers, appraisers and insurance adjusters — underscoring its domain-level expertise. The on-device model, designed for practical use in consumer electronics such as home appliances, smartphones, automotive infotainment systems and robots, runs independently on devices without connecting to external servers. It ensures faster processing, enhanced privacy, and robust security, which are key advantages in an increasingly AI-integrated world. Despite being half the size of its predecessor, the Exaone 3.5 2.4B model released in December, the new on-device model surpasses GPT-4o mini from OpenAI in specialized evaluations across mathematics, coding, and science, making it the most powerful in its weight class globally. To accelerate open research and innovation, LG has released Exaone 4.0 as an open-weight model on Hugging Face, the leading global platform for open-source AI. While open-weight models do not disclose architectural blueprints or training data, they make the trained weights publicly accessible, allowing developers to fine-tune and redistribute the models. Notable peers in the open-weight category include Google's Gemma, Meta's LLaMA, Microsoft's Phi, Alibaba's Qwen and Mistral AI's Mistral. Additionally, LG has partnered with Friendly AI, an official Hugging Face distribution partner, to launch a commercial API service for Exaone 4.0. It allows developers and enterprises to easily deploy the model without requiring high-end GPUs, thereby broadening accessibility across industries. In his New Year's address, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo underscored the group's long-term vision for artificial intelligence, calling it a core driver of future innovation. 'LG has grown by constantly pioneering uncharted territory and creating new value,' he said. 'Now, with AI, we aim to reshape everyday life by making advanced technologies more accessible and meaningful, helping people reclaim their time for what truly matters.' He emphasized that LG's AI efforts are not just about technological leadership, but about enabling a smarter, more human-centered lifestyle through seamless AI integration across products and services. Meanwhile, LG hosted 'Exaone Partners Day' on Tuesday, bringing together 22 domestic partner companies to discuss strategies for expanding the Exaone ecosystem. The group will further highlight its AI ambitions at the 'LG AI Talk Concert 2025' in Seoul on July 22, where it plans to unveil its latest research breakthroughs and present a roadmap for future AI innovation.

Twice as fast, more affordable: LS Electric takes on US power giants
Chairman Koo Ja-kyun eyes US data center boom with speed, custom solutions HANOI, Vietnam — LS Electric Chairman and CEO Koo Ja-kyun is spearheading efforts to strengthen the company's foothold in the US power systems market, buoyed by the rapid expansion of the artificial intelligence-driven data center industry. 'Compared to the Big Four power system suppliers in the US — Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy, Eaton Corporation and ABB — LS Electric delivers to clients more than twice as fast and at more competitive prices,' Koo said during a group interview at LS Electric's Bac Ninh plant in Hanoi, Vietnam. Koo was visiting the country ahead of the Elects Vietnam 2025 exhibition, scheduled for July 16-18 in Ho Chi Minh City. The surge in AI-powered digital services across industries since the COVID-19 pandemic has driven global tech giants to accelerate investments in AI data centers. Koo emphasized that LS Electric is targeting this market, which requires server racks equipped with high power-density distribution systems — a sector where legacy US power companies have struggled to meet soaring demand. Previously, LS Electric's main clients in North America were manufacturing plants and utility providers, which together account for around 50 percent of the company's total sales. To expand its reach, the company is considering acquiring US-based power distribution panel suppliers to gain deeper access to what Koo described as a 'surprisingly conservative' electrical market — one where customers often remain loyal to the same suppliers for decades, in contrast to the fast-moving IT industry. In the meantime, LS Electric has steadily gained ground by servicing and customizing products originally supplied by US competitors, winning over big tech clients in the process. It also conducts performance testing at its Power Testing & Technology Center located within its Cheongju plant in Korea. 'Our 'fast and precise' customization strategies are gaining attention from US clients, with some even requesting exclusive supply agreements,' said Koo, noting the company is beginning to establish a track record in an industry traditionally dominated by local players. LS Electric is also the first Korean company to complete UL certification for its power distribution panels — a requirement often necessary in the US to meet safety and performance standards. Looking ahead, Koo said that transitioning from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) power systems could be South Korea's next major growth opportunity, likening it to the country's approximately 32-year transition from 110V to the globally adopted 220V standard, known for its higher efficiency. 'The market for DC products is rapidly expanding,' Koo noted. 'Key technologies — including energy storage systems, solar and wind power — all operate on DC. While DC is typically converted to AC for usage, using DC directly eliminates the energy loss during conversion. This global trend toward DC systems presents a major opportunity for South Korea to lead in the future of the power industry.' 'Electricity powers AI competitiveness — and AI boosts national competitiveness,' he added. As part of its strategy to expand in the North American market, LS Electric in April completed construction of its first US manufacturing and R&D facility in Bastrop, Texas. The company plans to begin production of medium- and low-voltage power equipment and distribution systems for local AI data centers within this year — a move aimed at increasing market share while mitigating tariff pressure in the US.
