
Teleperformance Morocco responds to layoff claims, citing security breach
According to the statement, «an employee used her personal access badge to allow two unauthorized colleagues to enter a secured area governed by strict security protocols, particularly in relation to our PCI-DSS certification».
In line with internal procedures, an investigation was carried out, including the review of surveillance footage, «conducted in full compliance with applicable regulations (CNDP authorization ref. A-PO-1074/2023)», the company added. Teleperformance stated that «the facts were formally acknowledged by the employees involved during individual interviews», and reminded that «access badges are strictly personal, and no third party is allowed entry into production areas without formal prior authorization».
According to Orange Morocco, «the events constituted a serious breach of several internal policies, including the Code of Conduct, the group's data protection policy, the information systems security policy, and the IT resource usage charter». As a result, «management decided to terminate the employment contracts on grounds of gross misconduct».
While acknowledging that the decision was «humanly difficult», Teleperformance emphasized «the absolute need to rigorously protect sensitive data, secure production environments, and fulfill our obligations to clients». The company added that «the disciplinary action taken in this case was solely based on a clear violation of security rules, and was in no way discriminatory».
The statement comes in response to a letter circulated by the National Federation of Postal and Telecommunications Activities Employees (FAPT), part of France's General Confederation of Labor (CGT). On July 2, the union publicly criticized Orange over a labor dispute involving Teleperformance's Moroccan branch and employees affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT). In the letter, reviewed by Yabiladi, the union denounced the dismissals as abusive, reportedly affecting three individuals.

Fez – A new chapter is unfolding in Morocco's higher education scene, and it's one that could change the game for generations of students. The Private University of Fez (UPF) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), one of the top-ranked and most innovative universities in the United States. More than just a formal agreement, this is a full academic alliance powered by Cintana Education, ASU's global academic partner. At the center of this initiative is the creation of the 'American International Institute' within UPF: a dedicated hub that will offer ASU-designed programs, starting as early as this September. For the first time in Morocco, students will have access to official ASU courses, taught in Morocco, with the option to transfer to ASU's U.S. campus to complete their degrees. 'This is a first in Morocco,' said Professor Mohamed Ouazani-Jamil, Vice-President of UPF. 'We're talking about students starting their education here and finishing it in the U.S., earning Arizona State University degrees, whether bachelor's or master's. That kind of access didn't exist before.' But this partnership goes far beyond degrees. Through the ASU–Cintana global alliance, UPF now joins a network of more than 30 international universities spanning five continents. That means Moroccan students in Fez could soon find themselves collaborating on research with peers in Asia, Europe, Latin America, or Australia, without ever leaving the country. 'We're opening doors that simply weren't open before,' said Ouazani-Jamil. 'And it's not just for Moroccan students. Our university will now serve as a regional hub for students across Africa, especially from Sub-Saharan countries, who want to pursue American degrees and need a flexible, high-quality pathway to get there.' Agueda Benita, Chief Academic Officer at Cintana Education, sees the move as part of a much bigger vision. 'Arizona State University always chooses the right partner in every country,' she said. 'In Morocco, UPF was the obvious choice. It's an ambitious, forward-thinking institution with the potential to grow into a world-class university.' That ambition is now backed by tangible plans. Starting with five programs this fall, UPF will gradually expand its American curriculum, and ASU faculty will begin teaching on the Fez campus. Students will be exposed not only to rigorous academics but also to a global environment focused on both hard and soft skills. 'They'll develop technical skills, global mindsets, and have real career advantages, not just in Morocco but anywhere in the world,' Abelka explained. 'This is not a generic exchange program. It's a dual-degree pathway with all the depth and credibility that comes with the ASU name.' The exclusivity of the partnership is another key point. Cintana and ASU have chosen to work solely with UPF in Morocco, a move that reinforces the university's central role in this initiative. While smaller collaborations with other institutions may happen in the future, no other Moroccan university will offer this level of integration with ASU. 'This is an exclusive partnership,' Agueda confirmed. 'Creating the American International Institute, developing dual degrees, enabling mobility and joint research, this is all only with UPF.' And there's a long-term strategy in place. While the first campus for this collaboration is based in Fez, both institutions are already looking ahead. Plans are underway to expand into Rabat and possibly into other Moroccan regions and African countries. From a policy and regional development perspective, this move positions Morocco as an emerging educational hub, one that not only retains local talent but also attracts international students looking for world-class education without the overwhelming costs of relocating directly to the U.S. 'This will allow our students to take the first step here in Morocco before heading to the U.S.,' said Ouazani-Jamil. 'It makes global education more accessible and less intimidating. And it will create a generation of graduates who are equipped, connected, and ready for global opportunities.' Enactus Morocco Launches Sustainable Innovation Fest 2025
Enactus Morocco kicked off its sixth annual Sustainable Innovation Fest (SIF) yesterday in Casablanca, bringing together hundreds of student entrepreneurs to celebrate innovation and compete for the chance to represent Morocco at the global Enactus World Cup in Thailand. The three-day festival, co-financed by the European Union and organized in partnership with Spark and other collaborators, opened with a focus on social entrepreneurship and sustainable innovation. 'Today [Tuesday] we are launching the Sustainable Innovation Fest 2025,' said Saif Eddine Laalej, Enactus Morocco's Operations Manager. 'During the next three days, we will celebrate youth, celebrate the Moroccan entrepreneurship and innovation, and also host many different panels, live podcasts, many Agora activities under the Green Forward program.' The opening day featured a panel discussion on green innovation, a live podcast session, and the first round of student team presentations as competitors pitched their sustainable business ideas to panels of expert judges. Green technology at focus The festival's focus on environmental innovation aligns with Morocco's broader economic strategy and the interests of its young population. Salma Karim, Head of Human Capital and Innovation at the Agency of Digital Development, participated in a panel during the opening day's green technology panel. 'Today was the first day of the Sustainable Innovation Fest organized by Enactus,' Karim explained. 'It was an occasion to discuss during a panel the opportunities of green tech and its impact on the Moroccan economy.' Karim pointed out the natural connection between Moroccan youth and environmental technology. 'We highlighted the fact that Morocco's youth is very interested in technology and environment and it's a great occasion to catalyze this interest in terms of concrete business opportunity for the Moroccan youth,' she said. Student teams present water conservation solutions Among the competing teams, several focused on addressing Morocco's water challenges through innovative approaches. Jihane Amira from Enactus FSJES Sale presented, along with her team, the Aqua Charbon project, which addresses water conservation issues. 'Today we assisted the first day of SIF 2025. It was all great,' Amira said. 'First of all, we presented our project Aqua Charbon that related to the competition. Moroccan water race. It was great. It was great competition. The competitors were great too.' Her team will advance to the semi-finals, which take place on the second day of the festival. 'Tomorrow [Wednesday] will be the semi-finals, and I hope this year we'll take the champion with us,' she noted. Another water-focused project came from Jaber Yassine, a finance student at the Polydisciplinary Faculty in Larache. His team developed Bio Remede, also focused on water preservation. 'Me and my friends and my team, we have an idea called Biomed and it's about preserving water,' Yassine explained. 'We are honored to reach this stage of this competition and we thank all the staff and Enactus Morocco for this.' Beyond competition: learning and development For many participants, the festival represents more than just a competition. Yassine pointed out the developmental value of the experience. 'It's not about winning, even I know it's a competition, but it's not about winning more than reaching this level and show to everyone how we can reach with our ideas and our developing ideas,' he said. The opening day's programming reinforced this educational aspect. Amira commended the quality of the panel discussions and podcast sessions. 'The first of the day had the panel. They were so great. We learned so much, so much information with a lot of experienced people. And then we had the podcast. We had the pleasure of attending the podcast with Mr. Yassine and his guest. It was all great.' Road to Thailand The competition will culminate with the national finals, where one team will earn the right to represent Morocco at the Enactus World Cup in Thailand. Laalej noted that the festival will determine 'who will represent Morocco at the International Nexus World Cup in Thailand during the national Morocco finals.' As the festival continues through July 10, participants will engage in additional panels, workshops, and the Innovation Agora, where teams can showcase their projects to a broader audience.
