Farmers in Tiruchy flag shortage of urea, DAP fertilisers
While sources said that the seasonal requirement for fertilisers is approximately 25,000 tonnes, data available with the district administration on fertiliser stock records that primary agriculture credit cooperative societies (PACCS) currently has 877 tonnes of urea, 635 tonnes of DAP, 1,608 tonnes of complex fertiliser, 778 tonnes of Muriat of Potash and 146 tonnes of Single Super Phosphate, totalling 4,046 tonnes. Private traders claim they receive a similar quantity of fertilisers that PACC societies are supplied with.
Farmers, however, allege that private traders receive a larger share of fertilisers compared to PACCS. Altogether, the total quantity of fertilisers made available through both PACCS and private traders is an estimated 15,000 tonnes, allege farmers. N Veerasekaran, state spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, said, 'The actual supply of fertilisers to PACCS and private traders is insufficient. Since the kuruva special package includes fertilisers, officials prioritise distribution to farmers enrolled in the scheme, leaving others in the lurch.'

PRAYAGRAJ: The state govt, apart from ensuring uninterrupted fertilizer supply to farmers during the Kharif season, has taken steps to ensure accessibility, transparency, and price control of fertilizers. The authorities are reviewing the distribution of urea, phosphate, and gypsum as per the requirement at frequent intervals. Shipra, acting Joint Director (Agriculture, Prayagraj Division), says, "A target of supplying 71,000 metric tonnes of urea has been set in the division in the Kharif season, against which 56,743 MT of urea was available. However, 79.92 percent availability is up to July 25 compared to the total target. The availability of urea at the sales centers is 44,615 MT during this period. The status of distribution reached 31,868 MT before the end of July. Even after distribution, the remaining stock of urea in the sales centres is 12,747 MT." The availability of phosphatic fertilizers is better than urea in the division. Their availability at the sales centers is 21,362 MT during this period. The status of distribution reached 17,294 MT before the end of July. Even after distribution, their remaining stock in the sales centres is 4,068 MT. Similarly, 2,418.90 MT of gypsum was allotted for the division, out of which 1,824.70 MT was supplied and 1,065.65 MT was distributed to the farmers. In view of the priority of the govt, emphasis is being laid on timely availability and transparency in fertiliser distribution. Officials claimed that 509 cooperative societies have been engaged in the division for this work. Daily review of the availability of fertilisers is also being done. There are instructions to take strict action on any kind of black marketing or over-rating. Payment is being done through QR code to ensure transparency. A zero-tolerance policy is being adopted against hoarders.
