No DNA, just RSA! Steyn City to host LIV Golf event in 2026

LIV Golf on Saturday confirmed it will host an event in South Africa for the first time in 2026.
The Saudi-funded tournament will be held at the exclusive Steyn City, in Johannesburg, from March 20 to 22 next year. Tickets will be 30 US dollars (around R530) per person, with children under 12 gaining free entry.
The event will have a strong home contingent representing the nation with Stingers GC featuring Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace.
LIV Golf events, as its name is derived from the Roman numerals for 54, have three 18-hole rounds and currently do not carry world rankings points for the tournaments.

SA Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie welcomed the announcement.
'This is a special moment to announce that the world's most dynamic and innovative new golfing format will make its historic debut in South Africa,' said Mc
'This will be a proud moment for our nation, showcasing our vibrant sports culture and world-class hospitality to a global audience. The all-South African Stinger GC team is also testament to our country's rich golfing heritage, and we need to get behind our boys as a country when they are here, so that they can win their nation's inaugural tournament.'
McKenzie said local artists would also feature in the entertainment at the events.
'LIV will also help to popularise golf in South Africa, and I also look forward to using the big concerts each day as a platform to show off our amazing home-grown, internationally competitive entertainment. We take our hats off to LIV as an organisation for heeding the call to include Africa on their calendar if they wish to call themselves a truly global brand. This is what we want to see for other sports too, from Formula One to the Summer Olympics.'

Spanish veteran Garcia wins stage 2 of women's Tour de France
Spanish veteran Mavi Garcia won the second stage of the women's Tour de France on Sunday as Mauritius' Kim Le Court finished the day in the race leader's yellow jersey -- a first for an African rider. The 41-year-old Garcia, of the Liv-AlUla-Jayco team, attacked with 10km to go and it paid off as she crossed the line three seconds ahead of the chasing peloton. Garcia is the oldest rider in the Tour peloton and her victory beat the former age record for a stage winner set by Annemiek Van Vleuten (39 years 9 months 23 days) in 2022. "I've been racing for a long time and I hadn't been having my best year, but this win really gives me a massive boost of energy," said Garcia. "I really didn't believe I was going to win at the end. I've tried many times like that and it never worked out, so I just couldn't believe it until I was five metres from the line and I turned around and saw they wouldn't catch me. "It was only then that I knew I'd really done it. It's been a long, long time since I had any feeling this good in my career." Le Court took over atop the overall standings from Marianne Vos, who won Saturday's opening stage. The duo are tied with the exact same time at the top of the general classifications, with the Mauritian earning the yellow jersey courtesy of her combined stage finish placings over the first two days of racing. "My team said we can take yellow today, but I could not believe it, to be honest I think I'm still a bit shocked," said Le Court. "The ultimate goal of the team is to fight for GC towards the end of the Tour for the overall, but our goal was also to win a stage. "I've come close twice, but now that I have the yellow jersey on my shoulders, it's already a massive achievement for the team and for myself." Dutch sprinter Charlotte Kool, who won the opening two stages of last year's Tour, was a late withdrawal from the peloton, which now counts 152 riders. The Picnic-PostNL rider, who finished 7:40 off Vos' pace on Saturday, fell in competition last week and after consulting her team's medical staff opted to withdraw. Kool's withdrawal was the second of the Tour following that of Swiss rider Marlen Reusser (Movistar), who had been expected to push for the podium but who was sick. Monday's third stage is a flat 163.5km ride from La Gacilly to Angers. The women's Tour features nine stages, culminating in a mountain ascent for a summit finish in the ski resort of Chatel on August 3.

Disappointment for SA swimmers on opening day of Singapore world champs
Gallagher wasn't too pleased with her swim, but happy with the speed shown in her opening 50 metres. 'I didn't realise that I had turned third, that's really cool, so I'm very happy with my front-end speed,' she said after the race. 'I think it's the fastest I've been out in the 100 before and it felt very comfortable and very chilled, so I think that's a very good sign for the 50, which is still in a couple of days. 'I just have to switch off from the race. Even though it didn't go the way I wanted it to, there are some good things to take away and look forward to the rest of the racing which is the 100 free and the 50 fly. 'There's still a long way to go. It's day one of the competition so I'm looking forward to the rest of my races and we'll see what we can produce. Hopefully the 50 fly will be a better outcome than this one.' Other South Africans in action in the heats earlier in the day were Aimee Canny, who finished 19th overall in the 200m individual medley heats after swimming a time of 2:12.70 and Chris Smith, who finished 25th overall in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:00.85. Hannah Robertson was 27th in the 400m freestyle heats in 4:22.69, while in the men's event, Matthew Caldwell was 39th in 4:01.45. The South African women's 4x100m freestyle relay team of twin sisters, Georgia and Olivia Nel, Cailtin de Lange and Hannah Robertson finished sixth in their heat in 3:45.33 and did not progress to the final. The World Aquatics Championships in Singapore continue on Monday, with Pieter Coetzé kicking off his campaign in the 100m backstroke while Meder will be back in action in the 100m breaststroke, Matt Sates in the 200m freestyle, and Catherine van Rensburg in the 1500m freestyle.
