Chery's first and thus far only electric vehicle (EV) in Australia now has a slightly different name.
The Chery Omoda E5 small electric SUV has become the Chery E5, with the Omoda lettering on its front and rear ends and steering wheel replaced with Chery lettering.
That's because Chery will launch the Omoda brand in its own right in Australia during the second half of 2025. While the Chery C5 (formerly the Chery Omoda 5) and E5 are sold under this brand in other markets, they won't be here.

The E5 Urban (formerly the Omoda E5 BX) is now priced from $36,990 before on-road costs, matching the promotional pricing available for its predecessor since early this year. That's a whopping $6000 less than when that model was released late last year.
The E5 Ultimate (formerly the Omoda E5 EX) is now priced at $40,990 before on-roads, which is $1000 more than the promotional pricing introduced earlier this year but $5000 less than at launch.
The spec list for the E5 is essentially unchanged from the Omoda E5, with a couple of exceptions.
"Based on a global realignment, the only amends are the removal of navigation in the EX/BX models, and puddle lamps in EX," said a Chery Australia spokesperson.
"Both models continue to have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto for navigation requirements."
The Chery E5 is on sale now.
Drive-away pricing differs from state to state.
The E5 features MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension.
The Chery E5 is backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre battery warranty.
Capped-price servicing information isn't yet available, though the outgoing Omoda E5 requires servicing every 12 months or 20,000km, with the total price over seven years working out to $1901.34.
The Chery E5 has a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, based on testing conducted in 2022 of the Omoda 5 on which it's based.

Second Corvette EV concept debuts with California styling

The second of three electric Chevrolet Corvette concepts has surfaced, although GM is very keen to point out that this car in no way previews a Corvette EV. While the first electric Corvette concept, which debuted in April, came from the company's design team in the UK, the latest hails from GM's Advanced Design studios in Pasadena, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Although there are no details about where the concept's motors are located, the California Corvette concept, as it's known, sticks to the mid-engine supercar design template. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new car. Click here to get a great deal. Compared to the current mid-engine 'C8' Corvette, the California Corvette pushes the styling boundaries a little further. The base of the windscreen, for example, sits above the front the axle line. The front-hinged canopy is said to make ingress and egress easier, and can also be taken off to transform the concept into an open-air track car. Despite the concept being nearly 2.2m wide, the cabin is snug. Inspired by the bisected design of the C8's interior, the California has barely any buttons with most of the controls located in the touchscreen in the steering wheel hub. The car's body is designed around an 'assumed' T-shaped primastic battery pack that's said to allow for a lower seating position, and better airflow around and through the vehicle. Other aero pieces include an active spoiler and air brake. The concept rides on 21-inch wheels up front, and 22-inch rims at the rear. At just 1051mm tall and 2183mm wide, the California concept is considerably wider than the standard eighth-generation Corvette Stingray, which is 1234mm tall and 1933mm wide. In length (4669mm) and wheelbase (2767mm), the concept car is about 40mm longer than the Stingray. According to Chevrolet there is 'no production intent behind this design study'. Recent rumblings from GM indicate an all-electric Corvette is off the table in the immediate future. Tony Roma, lead engineer for GM Performance, told Autocar at the launch of the Corvette ZR1X, an electric Corvette couldn't be just about performance numbers, and would have to be 'engaging' and centred around the 'art of driving'. 'We're not going to do an electric version of this car just to do it. That would defeat the entire purpose,' he continued.

2025 MG 5 price and specs

The MG 5 has received a range of safety upgrades for model year 2025 (MY25), but the small sedan is now offered exclusively in top-spec Essence trim. Technically, MG is still advertising the MY24 MG 5 on its website, indicating there's still stock of the pre-update model. However, while the MY24 MG 5 lineup opened with a base Vibe powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, the MY25 MG 5 is offered exclusively in Essence trim with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four. This wears a nationwide price tag of $32,990 drive-away, while MG is advertising MY24 MG 5 Essences at between $30,940 and $31,777 depending on the state/territory. The MY24 Vibe is priced between $26,900 and $27,609 drive-away. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new MG 5. Click here to get a great deal. Safety upgrades made for MY25 include the fitment of front and rear outboard seatbelt pre-tensioners, seatbelt reminders for all seats, and whiplash-resistant front and rear seats. The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system now includes pedestrian, cyclist and motorcycle detection, while adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and emergency lane-keep assist are newly fitted. There's also MG's Intelligent Cruise Assist, which combines adaptive cruise and lane-keep functions. The safety upgrades were sufficient to net the updated MG 5 a three-star ANCAP rating, up from its previous zero-star result. Visually and mechanically, there are no changes to the MG 5 for MY25. A facelifted model has been launched in China, but has yet to be confirmed for Australia. The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine has been axed. Despite having significantly less power and torque (84kW and 150Nm), it had a higher claimed fuel consumption (6.6L/100km). The MG 5 is offered in a single four-door sedan body style. It rides on MacPherson strut front suspension, with a torsion beam at the rear. The MG 5 is backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. If you service your vehicle within the MG network, this is extended to 10 years or 250,000km. Servicing is required every 12 months or 10,000km. After it received a zero-star safety rating from ANCAP in 2023, MG made safety upgrades to the MG 5. It was re-tested in 2025, and received a substantially better three-star rating. Standard safety equipment includes: In terms of active safety systems, the MG 5 still lacks blind-spot monitoring and any kind of driver monitoring system. There's also no reverse AEB or rear cross-traffic alert/assist system. The MG 5 Essence comes standard with the following equipment: Only a black interior is offered. Dover White and Royal Yellow are the standard exterior paint finishes, with Black Pearl, Misty Grey and Diamond Red metallic finishes costing an extra $700. Brixton Blue premium paint has been discontinued.
