Why Derrick White wants to be like fellow Celtic Payton Pritchard this offseason

USA Today4 days ago
Despite all the question marks surrounding the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2025-26 season, guard Derrick White isn't one of them. The 2024 NBA champion is fresh off one of the best years of his career, yet he still understands that there are a few facets of his game that need refining. For help, he wants to look to Celtics teammate and reigning Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard.
On the first episode of White's new podcast, "White Noise," the Colorado native stressed that summer is the perfect time for improving — something he hopes to do regardless of how strong his last season with the C's was.
"It's a big summer for me to get better and work on a lot of the things I got to work on, and I'm excited to get better," White emphasized. "And I'm excited for the next year."
One craft White aims to hone is his ball handling, which is an area he knows Pritchard excels in based on all the videos of him dribbling in the garage like a madman.
"I want to get my Payton Pritchard bag up," White said with a smile. "P's unbelievable...I'm going to have to get in the garage soon. I don't know if I got it like P like that, but I'm working, P."
Although the Celtics' 2024-25 campaign went awry, White and Pritchard were reliable contributors. They both played in over 75 regular season games and notched career-highs on the same night, as White dropped 41 points during a win in early March over the Portland Trail Blazers while Pritchard recorded 43.
With Celtics star Jayson Tatum out indefinitely next season, White and Pritchard will be more valuable to Boston than ever. Whether or not they can carry the Celtics alongside star Jaylen Brown remains to be seen, but there's no doubt they'll be ready to go when October arrives.

Eli White Hits 2 HRs To Help Braves Beat Reds In MLB Speedway Classic At Bristol

Major League Baseball Eli White Hits 2 HRs To Help Braves Beat Reds In MLB Speedway Classic At Bristol Published Aug. 3, 2025 4:07 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Eli White hit a three-run homer and a solo shot, helping the Atlanta Braves beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 on Sunday in the rain-delayed MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway. White's first homer of the afternoon gave Atlanta a 3-1 lead in the second inning at the historic racetrack. The ball hit the safer barrier after clearing the outfield wall and the track itself. He added his sixth homer of the season on a leadoff shot in the seventh. Cincinnati went 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 on base. Brent Suter (1-2) got the loss. Atlanta came in having clinched the season series, winning four of the first six games. The teams split the first two in Cincinnati before coming to Bristol. The game was scheduled for Saturday, but it was suspended in the first inning because of persistent rain. Hurston Waldrep (1-0) was on the mound for Atlanta when play resumed. The right-hander was brought up from Triple-A Gwinnett and traveled about 250 miles to Bristol Motor Speedway early Sunday morning. He pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball for his first career win. Eli White reflects on two-home-run day in Braves' win over Reds at Speedway Classic ADVERTISEMENT The Reds loaded the bases with two out in the eighth after a balk by Tyler Kinley and a walk by Tyler Stephenson. Ke'Bryan Hayes then hit a hard grounder to third, but Luke Williams made a diving stop and threw to second for the forceout. This was the first time in six games between these teams that it was decided by more than a single run. The Braves will begin a series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, with RHP Erick Fedde (3-11, 5.33 ERA) taking the bump for Game 1. As for the Reds, they start a series on the road against the Chicago Cubs on Monday. LHP Nick Lodolo will be on the mound to start that one for the Reds. Reporting by The Associated Press. Could the Boston Celtics still sign free agent big man Charles Bassey?

Could the Boston Celtics still sign free agent big man Charles Bassey? It seems that earlier reports hinting at the former San Antonio Spurs reserve center heading to Europe to sign with Serbian ball club Partizan may be premature, per recent reporting from Celtics Blog's Noa Dalzell. But is is also unclear as to whether or not Boston's front office is looking to bring on the Sin City Celtics standout, despite Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens singing his praises after a strong showing in the NBA's 2025 Las Vegas Summer League. The team's tenuous status as a first apron team might also be playing a role in any decisions about Bassey to Boston. Might there be a potential partnership to be had here, or is this a case of fans latching on to a summer league star that ultimately is not likely to pan out? Also the host of the CLNS Media "You Got Boston" podcast, Dalzell took some time on a recent episode of her show to talk it over. Check it out below!
