Sweden claim 4-1 statement win over Germany to top Euros group
Ruthless Sweden beat 10-woman Germany for the first time at a Euros in their seventh meeting on Saturday, with the 4-1 score a major statement of intent at the tournament in Switzerland.
Stina Blackstenius in the 12th, Smilla Holmberg in the 25th, Fridolina Rolfö's 34th-minute penalty and Lina Hurtig in the 80th reversed Germany's early lead from Jule Brandt as the record champions suffered their biggest defeat in tournament history.

Carlotta Wamser, who had done well in replacing captain Giulia Gwinn who suffered a tournament-ending knee injury in the first match, was sent off for handling the ball which led to the penalty.
Both teams were assured of a place in the quarter-finals before the match.
But Sweden finished top of Group C with maximum points and may now have an easier path in the knock-outs where they reached the semi-finals at the last Euros and last two World Cups.
The 1984 champions will next face the Group D runner-up on Wednesday, possibly title holders England or the Netherlands, and they have avoided a potential semi-final against world champions Spain.

Germany in second will play the Group D winner on Saturday, with impressive France top before their finale on Sunday. France beat England last week and Germany in the 2024 Nations League semi-finals, and the winner could then face Spain in the semis.
Poland finished third in Group C by beating Denmark 3-2 in Lucerne in a duel of eliminated teams. Natalia Padilla, Ewa Pajor and Martyna Wiankowska scored for Poland, Janni Thomsen and Signe Bruun for the Danes.

The lowdown on UEFA Women's EURO 2025 Day 1️⃣2️⃣
The group stage at EURO 2025 will be concluded today with Group D taking centre stage. Here's what to look out for with the final two teams booking their spots in the quarter final. Before we get into today's action, what happened yesterday? ⏮️ Sweden and Germany battled it out for top spot in Zurich and it was the Scandinavians who ultimately prevailed. A bizarre handball from Germany's Carlotta Wamser saw her sent off in the first half and that allowed Sweden to stroll to a 4-1 win. Advertisement In the other game, Denmark's dreadful tournament reached a new nadir as they lost 3-2 to Poland to finish the group stage with three defeats from three. Who is playing today? 👀 England take on Wales in St. Gallen knowing that a win will see them through to the last eight. Wales haven't exactly lit up the tournament but Cymru will want nothing more than to get one over on their rivals. In the group's other game, France take on Netherlands with Les Bleus looking to maintain their 100 per cent record so far. Player to watch 🔎 📸 Matthias Hangst - 2025 Getty Images England's 4-0 hammering of Netherlands last time out was arguably the Lionesses best performance since the World Cup semi-finals two years ago. Advertisement Sarina Wiegman's side were sensational all over the pitch but nowhere more so than in midfield. Georgia Stanway has had to endure a tough season domestically with Bayern Munich, suffering a ligament tear in January which many thought would keep her out of the tournament entirely. But Stanway has proved those doubters wrong and will be integral later as England take on Wales. Key storyline 🔑 Can Netherlands cause one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far and beat France? It's going to be an uphill task for Andries Jonker and his side, with the Oranje so throughly beaten by England last time out. Advertisement The Dutch will need to beat Les Bleus by three goals to have any chance of making it to the last eight. Must-watch video 🎥 A special moment for a special player as Fridolina Rolfö celebrated her 100th cap yesterday. Fun facts 📊 Wales have committed the fewest fouls in the tournament so far with just 13. Wales are also bottom when it comes to pass completion, average possession and shots attempted. England have never lost to Wales in their 10 previous meetings, winning nine and drawing one. France are unbeaten in their last five games against Netherlands, winning three and drawing two. Our predictions 🔮 Netherlands 0-3 France England 3-1 Wales 📸 Matthias Hangst - 2025 Getty Images
