This video of the kidnap contains distressing images.
A man who kidnapped a woman after asking her for directions in Hove has been jailed for five years.
Cameron Boxall, 22, put the victim through a terrifying ordeal after he forced her into a car he had stolen earlier and attempted to drive off.
The victim, a 20-year-old local woman, was walking home from work in the early hours of the morning on 5 August 2024.
Boxall dragged the woman into a black Mini on Selbourne Road after asking her for directions.
She bravely fought back, ensuring her legs stayed outside of the vehicle so the car door remained open as the suspect tried to drive away.
After a short distance, the driver pushed the victim out of the car and made off from the scene.
Boxall, formerly of Carden Hill, Brighton, was charged and admitted a charge of kidnap, theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, making off without payment, and possession of cannabis when he appeared at Hove Crown Court on Friday 31 January.
He was remanded in custody and appeared for sentencing on Friday 9 May.
Detective Sergeant Jack Sagar said: "Boxall is a dangerous predator who preyed on a young woman innocently walking home, putting her through a horrific distressing ordeal where she feared for her life.
"We commend her for the immense strength and bravery she has shown throughout the incident and during our subsequent investigation. "

'I think I have killed mum': Driver's frantic call to dad moments after horror head-on crash

A trapped and injured BMW driver told his father moments after a head-on collision with a lorry on the A9: 'I think I have killed mum'. Dashcam footage from the HGV and another car captured the moments Gregor MacKay tried to overtake up to four cars in oncoming traffic – with devastating results. The black BMW was lifted off its wheels and rotated in the air, leaving Karen MacKay with a brain injury, ruptures to her bowel and colon, a fractured leg, a cracked cheekbone and a cracked eye socket. Her son sobbed in the dock of Inverness Sheriff Court as he pled guilty to driving dangerously on the A9. Following the court appearance, his father Donald, 64, told The Press and Journal his wife was 'making a great recovery' although his son was 'struggling'. Mr MacKay said: 'As a family, we would like to thank all the members of the public and emergency services who attended the accident. 'The events of the day were terrible, an accident. I continue to support both Gregor and Karen.' They had both set off from their home to attend a dental appointment in Inverness on the morning of December 19 2023. One motorist observed MacKay make what he regarded as a dangerous overtake on the Dornoch Bridge before watching him do the same a short time later with almost tragic results. Video, complete with a soundtrack of horrific screaming, was played in Inverness Sheriff Court. It showed the lorry trying to avoid the collision by mounting a grass verge. However, the BMW was driven straight into the front of the HGV without trying to avoid hitting it, the court was told. Fiscal depute Pauline Gair said the driver spoke to witnesses at the A9 crash scene near Delny, outside Invergordon. 'It's my fault', MacKay admitted, adding: 'I went to overtake and didn't realise there was two vehicles in front. I hesitated.' Mrs Gair said MacKay suffered pelvic injuries, confining him to a wheelchair during recovery. The prosecutor said his mum 'will have a lifelong disability and may need lifelong care'. However, Mr MacKay said the prognosis for his wife was more positive. 'It's all coming around. She's making a great recovery,' he said. 'The way she's going, she won't [need lifelong care]. She's cooking, she's doing everything, she's getting on fine.' Sheriff Gary Aitken told the sobbing offender that he may be jailed. 'It is not often I am lost for words, but the sheer arrogance and stupidity, driving like that on the A9 or anywhere else, is dangerous. It beggars belief,' he said. 'It was gross stupidity. There was plenty of room to get back in. What if it had been a mother and child in a Mini? 'It is a miracle that either of you are still alive at all. Poor driving can have catastrophic consequences, and it has changed your mother's life. 'A custodial sentence must be a real possibility here.' The sheriff deferred sentencing MacKay, of The Avenue, Reay, in Caithness, until September 1 for a background report. He was disqualified from driving in the meantime and had his bail continued.

Lexus driver jailed for causing crash on A470 at Brecon

A man from Brecon who caused a serious accident after he drove at excessive speed and in an erratic manner, has been jailed for 30 months. Kody Cook crossed a junction on the A470 near Brecon and clipped another car, causing them both to spin out. The driver of the other vehicle, Isabella George, suffered damage to her lung and spleen. The 21-year-old, who has never held a full driving licence, had already admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving with no insurance when he was brought before the court two days after the incident. Caitlyn Jones prosecuting explained how Cook had been driving his mother's Lexus on the afternoon of May 13. She said he drove at speed "in excess" of the speed limit, swerved to the left and right, stopped in the middle of the road, failed to use his indicators, and was seen to be arguing with a passenger. He continued to the junction of the B4602 and crossed the path of a Mini being driven by Ms George. The two vehicles clipped and spun, activating the airbags. Cook fled the scene, shouting he was sorry. He was arrested by police shortly afterwards and did not comment in interview. Ms Jones read out a victim impact statement from the victim, who was taken to hospital by ambulance. It said: "At the time, I felt I was going to die. I have never been in an accident, and I never want to ever again. "I have no control, and my life has been impacted by someone who didn't seem to care. Seeing this male standing in the road, shouting to his girlfriend he was sorry and going to phone his mum, but had no thought about me. "I always thought that people would stay and check on each other. He didn't even come anywhere near my car. I couldn't believe that he hadn't thought about me and what he could have done to me - I could have died." Paul Hewitt, defending, admitted it was "a highly dangerous manoeuvre" and it was "merciful" that Ms George did not suffer more serious injuries. Explaining that Cook is already on recall in HMP Berwyn, he continued: "He accepts his fate today, there's no question about what is going to happen to him and he tells me that when he is released, he is going to go back to Exeter where he is from." Mr Hewitt added: "He is a disqualified driver, he had no insurance, he should not have been driving that car, certainly should not have been driving in that manner." Sentencing Cook to 30 months in prison for the dangerous driving offence, Judge Shoman Khan told him: "Even before the collision itself, that type of driving shows a disregard for the risks to other road users." He continued: "You would have known, and a careful driver would have known, about the high level of care required to make this right turn. But you didn't show care. "You turned and pulled into the path of Miss George; there was nothing she could do to avoid you, and the severity of the collision is clear." Cook will also serve three months for driving while disqualified to run concurrently, and there was no separate penalty for the lack of insurance. He was told he will serve one year in prison with the rest on licence, and he was disqualified from driving for six years and three months. He must complete an extended retest before he can drive.

DUP MLA hits out at ‘sectarian' vandalism of Orange Arch in Newtownabbey

Photographs of the damage show the poles attached to the arch covered in green spray paint. North Belfast politician Phillip Brett condemned the latest attack on the arch alongside local business properties. Mr Brett said: "Sadly, this is far from the first occasion in which the Glengormley Arch has been vandalised over recent years with sectarian graffiti. "The latest incident is not only an attack on the right to cultural expression but an attack on our entire community with town centre premises also vandalised yet again. 'These cowardly acts do nothing but stoke tension and they have no place in our society. I have spoken with the PSNI and urged them to take swift action against a tiny minority who have been seeking to provoke, intimidate and divide our communities. 'I want to commend the members of Carnmoney District LOL No. 25 who have engaged positively with the local community and public bodies to ensure the 12th July period is celebrated with tolerance and respect as they prepare to host the East Antrim Combine Demonstration this year in Glengormley." News Catch Up - Monday 23rd June In 2022, unionists welcomed permission being granted to erect the arch, which has been considered controversial in the past. Carnmoney District LOL 25 had applied to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to erect the arch on the Antrim Road in time for the area's mini-Twelfth parade.
