Fahmi engages over 2,300 Madani community members at Melaka gathering
The Media and Publicity Committee for National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 said that the programme, organised by the Information Department (JaPen), involved 1,407 Madani Community members from all over Peninsular Malaysia as well as six specially invited groups from the Federal Territory of Labuan.
"The gathering aims to strengthen understanding among Madani Community members regarding the government's policies, initiatives, direction, and strategies.
"Participants were also briefed on current issues, smart and safe Internet usage, as well as effective strategic communication," the statement said.
Among the invited panellists were Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) anti-scam ambassador ASP (R) Rahmat Fitri Abdullah and TV personality Ally Iskandar Mohd Mardzi.
Also present were Communications Ministry senior division secretary (management) Mazlan Abd Mutalib, JaPen director-general Julina Johan, and senior federal and state government officials.
Participants will also have the opportunity to attend the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 celebration, which will be held Sunday (July 27) at Dataran Tanjung Emas, Muar, Johor. – Bernama

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim later flagged off the 2025 Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Expedition Convoy, which will travel across the country carrying the message of unity and patriotism. Fahmi said each year, different ways were used to instil patriotism among the people, adding that Muar was chosen for the launch due to its historic significance dating back to the Portuguese invasion of Melaka in 1511. 'This place was also known as Fortaleza de Muar or Bentayan Fort which protected Muar from the enemy due to its strategic location,' he added. Anwar said that the national day should not be limited to gaining independence from colonial powers but must also include the liberation of the people's minds and understanding. 'Merdeka is not just about breaking free from the British, but also liberating our way of thinking. 'We must rekindle the spirit of liberation and uplift the dignity of our people and our nation,' he said.

'I don't want our children to inherit the nation's debt'
MUAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warned that unchecked national debt could burden future generations, stressing his government's duty to rein in borrowing before it spirals further. He said his persistent warnings about national debt were driven by a responsibility to prevent the burden from being inherited by future generations. Malaysia's debt level remains high, and managing it responsibly is crucial to restoring investor confidence and safeguarding the country's economic future. "People complain that I always talk about debt, but how can we not? If we don't pay, who will? "Who's going to invest in a country that doesn't honour its debts? We must pay what we owe. "In 2022, the government borrowed RM100 billion. "The following year, we brought it down to RM90 billion. This year, it's RM80 billion. "We are controlling it to prevent ballooning debt," he said in his speech at the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 launch at Dataran Tanjung Emas here today. Also present were Communications Minister and National Month Steering Committee chairman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. Anwar said he would not resort to populist spending at the expense of the country's financial stability. "I could easily spend more and look popular, but who will pay later? It will be our children. "That's not leadership, that's irresponsibility." He, however, said he had no objection to borrowing for meaningful development, especially for rural communities. "When the late Tun Abdul Razak was prime minister, he took World Bank loans to build rural projects, that I can accept. Our fathers borrowed to uplift the people. "But debt because of 'sakau' (embezzlement) – that is what we fight against. "We must act against it because money taken from the people must be returned to the people," he said.

PM Anwar flags off 2025 KMJG convoy in Muar for National Month
MUAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially flagged off the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy at Dataran Tanjung Emas, marking the beginning of National Month celebrations. The event showcased nationwide unity, with participation from fishermen, security forces, and motorsport enthusiasts. A total of 59 fishing boats sailed along the Muar river, proudly displaying the Jalur Gemilang. Government vessels from the Department of Marine, MMEA, and Marine Police also joined, reinforcing coastal community involvement. On land, 88 vehicles carried 133 participants from agencies like JAPEN, PDRM, and Pos Malaysia. The convoy will travel through 88 checkpoints nationwide, covering Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan before culminating at Dataran Putrajaya on August 31. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi attended the launch.
