Responding to the ongoing language row in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey on Sunday said there is no conflict between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, highlighting that both states have shared cultural ties for the past four years.Dubey asserted that there's no conflict between Hindi and Marathi, accusing BJP of trying to frame Shiv Sena-UBT and MNS as anti-Hindi."There is no dispute between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. The cultural ties between the two states go back over 400 years... Few incidents cannot define the relationship between communities. A person living in Mumbai is first a Mumbaikar, regardless of language," the Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson said."And there's no conflict between Hindi and Marathi. The BJP tries to frame Shiv Sena or MNS as anti-Hindi, which is untrue... We've come to Uttar Pradesh to honour the Kanwar Yatra and pay our respects to the sacred land of the Ganga and Yamuna... Mumbai is our mother and identity. BJP's corrupt politics aim to loot the city and hand over precious land to big industrialists. Since the Thackeray brothers reunited, BJP leaders like Amit Shah and Eknath Shinde feel threatened," he added.On the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, he said, "Calling critics 'urban Naxals' is outrageous... In a democracy, dissent is not terrorism... We strongly oppose BJP's attempts to silence voices and urge the Governor of Maharashtra to intervene and stop this Bill."A controversy over the three-language policy has sparked a political row in Maharashtra in recent days.In recent developments, tensions have escalated between the Marathi and Hindi-speaking communities in the Mira-Bhayandar region. These circumstances have prompted extensive protests and marches, fostering a climate of stress and animosity in the area, according to an official press release.The emergence of such unrest is indeed regrettable and underscores the necessity for constructive dialogue and conflict resolution, the Maharashtra Congress stated in the press release.In recent developments, tensions have escalated between the Marathi and Hindi-speaking communities in the Mira-Bhayandar region. These circumstances have prompted extensive protests and marches, fostering a climate of stress and animosity in the area, according to an official press release.The emergence of such unrest is indeed regrettable and underscores the necessity for constructive dialogue and conflict resolution, the Maharashtra Congress stated in the press release.The release additionally mentioned that the workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, at the Asmita Club in Naya Nagar, Mira Road. It will be attended by Marathi and Hindi-speaking residents from the Mira-Bhayandar area, as well as Congress office-bearers and workers.The party asserts that the principle of unity in diversity is a defining characteristic of India. Individuals from various castes, religions, and linguistic backgrounds coexist harmoniously within the nation, the press release stated.

Odisha student who self-immolated over harassment inaction cremated; congress-led opposition calls bandh on 17th
NEW DELHI: The body of the college student who set herself ablaze following alleged sexual harassment by a professor reached her village in Odisha's Balasore district on Tuesday. The student's body was cremated in the presence of her family and other villagers. Thousands of people thronged the crematorium ground to attend her cremation. Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi, district officials and others walked to the crematorium ground from the house of the student. The 20-year-old second-year B. Ed student of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College, Balasore had accused the Head of Education Department, Samira Kumar Sahu of sexually harassing her. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced ex gratia of Rs 20 lakh for the family of the student. Majhi directed officers concerned to conduct a proper investigation into the incident so that all guilty are punished in accordance with the law, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). Condemning the Odisha BJP government, eight opposition parties, led by the Congress, called an Odisha bandh on July 17 to protest the death of the student. State Congress president Bhakta Charan Das said the bandh is being supported by eight parties, including the Left. He claimed the incident, which happened at the Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore, showed that the state government has failed to protect women. "She brought petrol, and everyone watched silently. No one acted," he said, attacking the ruling BJP.

Elon Musk's xAI, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic win $200 million Pentagon AI contracts: Details here
OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and xAI have each been awarded a contrct of up to $200 million by the US Department of Defence in a bid to scale up adoption of AI capabilities in the US. The new contract will help DoD develop agentic AI workflows and use them to address critical national security challenges, DoD's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Ofice said as per Reuters. "The adoption of AI is transforming the (DoD's) ability to support our warfighters and maintain strategic advantage over our adversaries," DoD's Chief Digital and AI Officer Doug Matty stated. US government agencies have reportedl been expanding their use of AI owing to a White House order in April which promoted the use of new technology. President Donald Trump has also looked to soften the regulation around AI by revoking a 2023 executive order which looked to reduce risks of AI by mandating data disclosures. In a separate announcement on Monday, xAI announced a new range of products called 'Grok for Government' which made its advanced AI models including the recently launched Grok 4 model available to local, federal, state and national government. Prior to xAI and Google, Pentagon had announced last month that it was awarding a $200 million contract for OpenAI, noting that the company would "develop prototype frontier AI capabilities to address critical national security challenges in both warfighting and enterprise domains" The new contract also comes at a time when there has been rising distance between President Trump and Elon Musk. Trump's biggest backer during the 2024 elections had turned against him on the issue of government spending and later started his own American party. Meanwhile, Musk's xAI has also been embroiled in a recent controversy with the company's Grok chatbot spewing anti-semitic sentiments and even going on to praising Adolf Hitler last week. Since then, xAI has apologized for Grok's 'horrific' conduct and blamed it on a 'deprecated' code along with the extermist views of its users.
