Bishop McCort moves on, Chestnut Ridge falls in PIAA Team Wrestling Championships
With a match that went deep into overtime, Bishop McCort heavyweight Caleb Rodriguez provided an unlikely spark to the Crushers early in the dual with a 7-4 win over Landon Morehart.
'He did a great job sparking us there,' Bishop McCort junior Bo Bassett said. 'I think that got the momentum rolling and then we were able to kind of take it from there.'

The Crushers were in fact able to take it from there, winning 9 out of the final 10 matches by either technical falls or falls.
Bishop McCort now faces Berks Catholic in the semi-finals on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. before possibly having revenge against No. 1 ranked Faith Christian, who handed the Crushers a loss in the PIAA Team Championship Final last year.
'We know what everybody's looking forward to but (we're treating it like) it's one match at a time. The biggest match for today was Montoursville (and on Saturday) it's going to be Berks Catholic,' Bishop McCort head coach Bill Bassett said. 'After we get through them, we'll worry about Faith Christian.'
'When you're wrestling the toughest state in all the country. You've got to be ready to go every round,' Bo said. 'We're really excited for that one in the finals, but we still have got one to take care of in the finals and then we're all locked in on the national finals.'

Meanwhile, Chestnut Ridge was tied with Berks Catholic at 5 after Jayden Imler won by tech-fall in the second bout of the meet. The two teams split matches at 107 and 114 pounds, but then it was all downhill for the Lions.
NC State commit Dominic Deputy was caught in a cradle and was stuck on his back for close to a minute, leading to a pin for Berks Catholic's Neil Bitting. After bouncing back and winning at 127 lbs., Chestnut Ridge would go on to drop the last six matches either by tech-falls or falls.
The PIAA Team Wrestling Championship Finals are set for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

I was there in India earlier this year and Paul was as well. We saw the crowds that came out there. 'Us playing globally, the Crushers as a team, as a franchise, we're able to showcase ourselves in our regions that we're from. "Baan is a great example of that, how it allows us to showcase the game of golf in his corner of the world. We're with going to JCB [in England] where Paul is from in that region in a sense. "Again, we've been in Florida, Dallas. The game of golf is ready for change. We continue to hope to see golf move in this team direction. Advertisement 'Obviously the game will always be an individual sport. We'll always play for individual titles. But why not have a team aspect as well to it? Why can't we have more fun together? Why can't we build something special? Why can't we influence and inspire the next generation of golfers as a team? LIV Golf Dallas: Patrick Reed Wins With Birdie in 4-Man Playoff
CARROLLTON, Texas – Patrick Reed lost the lead with a 3-over 75 and then atoned for it by making a 15-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a four-man playoff on Sunday to win LIV Golf Dallas, his first title since joining the Saudi-funded league in 2022. Reed, who started the final round with a three-shot lead, fell behind late in the day at Maridoe Golf Club until Jinichiro Kozuma made bogey on the 18th hole and then made par on his final hole at No. 1 for a 68. That got him into a playoff with Reed, Louis Oosthuizen (68) and Paul Casey (72). On the first extra hole, Oosthuizen drove into the water and Casey took four shots to reach the green on the par-4 18th. Kozuma missed his 25-foot birdie try, setting the stage for Reed. Reed said it was a relief to get his first win in his home state of Texas. He won the Hong Kong Open last year on the Asian Tour but had gone 0 for 41 on LIV Golf. "To get my first win here, part of LIV, it means so much to me," Reed said. "I tried to mess it up. After making birdie on the first, I seemed to leave every putt short." Bryson DeChambeau birdied his final hole, significant only because it knocked Jon Rahm out of the top 10 for the first time in LIV Golf. Sergio Garcia was never a factor, but he ends the week at No. 5 in the points standings, earning the lone spot in The Open Championship for LIV Golf players in the top five in the standings not already eligible for Royal Portrush. Nebraska a finalist for top class of 2026 wrestling recruit
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are in the running for the top wrestling recruit in the nation. Bo Bassett, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2026, decommitted from the Iowa Hawkeyes earlier this month. "After a lot of prayer and talking with my family, I've decided to decommit from the University of Iowa. This wasn't easy, but I believe it's not the right fit for me as a wrestler, a person, or for my faith journey. I'm grateful for the opportunity, and I'll never speak a bad word about their program. This is about finding the place God wants me to be. This is a huge decision in my life, and it has to be the right one." Bassett will now decide among Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and defending national champion Penn State. Media outlet FloWrestling broke down the decision. "There's a final three for Bo. How much conversation has been happening in the background, I don't know how much. Definitely some. There has been communication between the Bassett camp and these other schools prior to his decommitment. Penn State, kind of obvious. Oklahoma State, pretty obvious. And Nebraska. Those are the three. And that's who is ultimately going to be in the mix for Bo Bassett." It's no surprise to see Nebraska is having success on the recruiting trail as the Huskers are coming off the most successful seasons in program history.
