Ryan Reynolds' Welsh translator to receive Welsh honour
Broadcaster and journalist Maxine Hughes will be honoured by Gorsedd Cymru at this year's National Eisteddfod in Wrexham county.
Hughes, originally from Conwy, is well known for being the official translator and poking fun at the two Wrexham FC owners in television show Welcome to Wrexham.
The Gorsedd of the Bards is an association made up of people who have made a distinguished contribution to the Welsh nation, the language, and its culture.

Hughes, who previously worked for BBC News and now lives in Washington DC, flew out to Los Angeles and landed the part of the "official Welsh translator" for the television series.
She features in a video acting as a disgruntled translator who makes her opinion clear of Deadpool star Reynolds and McElhenney, who starred in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
She ignores what they say and then provides her own commentary on the pair in Welsh, as the subtitles reveal to the audience.
Also receiving a blue robe for services to the nation will be Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth.
Ap Iorwerth worked as a journalist and broadcaster for the BBC before being elected as a Senedd member for Anglesey in 2013.
Journalist and broadcaster Dewi Llwyd will also receive the honour at this year's festival.
Llwyd, from Bangor, has reported in Welsh on some of the biggest news stories in Wales and the world for nearly half a century.
He has been the face of S4C's election programmes and has presented the channel's main news programme along with the discussion show "Pawb a'i Farn" for many years.
Actor Mark Lewis Jones, from Rhosllanerchrugog, Wrexham, will also receive an honour.
He has appeared in series such as The Crown, Game of Thrones, and is also known for his roles in films such as "Star Wars: Episode VIII" and "The Far Side of the World".

While Baldoni asked that the deposition take place at his lawyers' office, Lively won a protective order allowing her to be questioned at a location of her choosing. She was questioned at her attorneys' office on 7th Avenue, the Daily Mail reported. Lively's lawyers claim that a day after the deposition, Baldoni's side posted the 292-page rough draft version of the transcript under seal for a week. Lively's team will have to file a motion to keep it under seal indefinitely. Baldoni's lawyers 'hope to make Ms. Lively defend the continued sealing of the transcript so they can advance a false narrative that Ms. Lively is afraid of her deposition testimony becoming public, which is entirely untrue and deeply harmful.' Deposition transcripts normally remain under seal unless arguments are made for them to be unsealed for legal reasons. Portions of deposition transcripts can also come out during trials. Lively's lawyers argued that the transcript should be erased from the record for now. Lively launched a $250 million lawsuit against Baldoni and others claiming he sexually harassed her on the set of the 2024 movie, which he directed and co-starred in. She alleged that things got so bad during filming that there was a tense sit-down where she and Reynolds demanded he refrain from showing her nude videos and photos of women and that he stop talking to Lively about his prior addiction to porn and his sexual conquests. Lively claimed that Baldoni's team then went on a smear campaign about her which hurt her businesses and her family, the suit alleged. Baldoni — who was on the TV show 'Jane the Virgin' — then countersued for $400 million for extortion and defamation against Lively and Reynolds. Manhattan federal Judge Lewis Liman dismissed Baldoni's claims in June. Lawyers on both sides didn't immediately return requests for comment Monday afternoon.

Dave Edmunds suffered a 'major cardiac arrest' and faces a 'very long journey' to recovery, according to his wife, who detailed the Welsh musician's health struggles in a Facebook post. Best known perhaps for his 1970 hit 'I Hear You Knocking,' Edmunds — who also formed the band Rockpile with Nick Lowe — 'died in my arms while I desperately tried to keep him alive,' Cici Edmunds wrote in the July 29 post, before doctors revived him 'by a miracle.' Dave Edmunds, 81, 'very clearly has brain damage and severe memory loss' after the ordeal, Cici Edmunds wrote, and he faces the high risk of another cardiac arrest. 'And if that occurs there is no chance for Dave,' Cici Edmunds added. Dave Edmunds topped the U.K. pop singles chart for six weeks in 1970 with his rendition of 'I Hear You Knocking,' which the R&B singer Smiley Lewis originally popularized in the mid-1950s. Among Edmunds' other solo hits are 'Girls Talk' (written by Elvis Costello), 'Born to Be with You' and a cover of the Ronettes' 'Baby, I Love You.' He formed Rockpile in 1976 and later produced records by the Stray Cats and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, among other acts. He also toured as a member of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band. Rocker Dave Edmunds, most popular for his 1970 hit 'I Hear You Knocking,' has been left hospitalized and fighting for his life after suffering a 'major' cardiac arrest. The popular Welsh musician's wife, Karin Cecilia 'Cici' Edmunds, shared the shocking news in a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, July 29. 'My beloved husband of 40 years has had a major cardiac arrest,' she began.
