'Coaches make it seem like I'm 38'
The 31-year-old winger has not been at his best for nearly two years. His poor form at the national team forced Hugo Broos to drop him for the first time last year. He made his return to Bafana Bafana earlier this year but struggled to find the back of the net.
Speaking to Robert Marawa last week, Percy Tau felt he still had a lot to contribute to the national team.
'I still feel that I can contribute to the country; yes, there are performances that put doubts or questions but that does not make you a bad player at all, and it does not change who I am,' he told 94.7′ s MSW .
'My name will never change; I'm still Percy, and I'll always try and give my best.'
'Yes, there are players that are doing well, but then do you only want to have the younger ones only in the national team and take all the other ones?
'Football is a sport where there are phases, you'll have your lows, you'll have your highs, but then do we kick him out when he's having his lows?' Tau continued.
'I don't feel that should be the approach because we are going to have a problem with what it means to play for the national team.
'And we don't want that to happen to anyone where they are now starting to feel different about going to the national team, like you only support me when I'm doing well.
'I feel that it should always be balanced. You want to have the younger ones, and you want to have the older ones, and by the way, I'm still 31 years old, the coaches make it seem like I'm 38,' said the Bafana star.
Percy Tau left Al Ahly earlier this year to play in Qatar, but only lasted four months. The former Mamelodi Sundowns star is now a free agent and expressed his desire to return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The Sharks, Western Province, Bulls and Lions have all named Junior Springbok stars in their squads for the 2025 Currie Cup competition. A number of players who were part of the 2025 World Rugby U20 Championship winning Junior Springboks squad could light up the country's oldest rugby competition, the Currie Cup, when it kicks off around South Africa this weekend. All of SA's four main franchises, who all but two (signed to the Cheetahs) of the Junior Bok squad are contracted to, have announced their squads for the competition, with the Bulls naming six junior world championship winners in their group, the Sharks and Western Province eight each, and the Lions four. First round rest Most of the teams are unlikely to pick their Junior Bok stars for round one, as they played the final last Saturday and only arrived back in South Africa on Monday, so have yet to train fully with their respective franchises, while the players who featured a lot during the tournament will also need a bit of a break. But it will be interesting to see how many Junior Boks can now make a splash in the Currie Cup and later push for places in their respective franchise URC sides when that kicks off in September. A few Junior Bok players have already made their URC debuts, but if the talent that was shown at the U20 showpiece event is anything to go by, many more of them will get a chance over the coming season. If I had to pick two players from each major franchise to keep an eye on in the Currie Cup, I'd go with Norton and Xola Nyali at Western Province, Bathobele Hlekani and Vusi Moyo at the Sharks, Siphosethu Mnebelele and Cheswill Jooste at the Bulls, and Haashim Pead and Gilermo Mentoe at the Lions.

Everyone was ecstatic to see Smith reach number one on the world surf rankings in 2025. However, after assuming the yellow jersey in Margaret River, it's plain to see that results have not fallen the big South African's way. Now, freed up from the expectation of surfing in yellow, the 38-year-old tour veteran is focussing only on the job at hand in Tahiti. Hunt reveals why he picked Chiefs over Pirates in 2020
Durban City head coach Gavin Hunt has revealed he had the opportunity to coach Orlando Pirates but chose Kaizer Chiefs instead. After Bidvest Wits was sold in 2020, the 60-year-old coach found himself without a job, but didn't spend much time at home as Amakhosi called. Before the sale, Wits was one of the top teams in the league, having won the league two years prior. Top stars such as Vincent Pule, Thabang Monare, Deon Hotto, Ben Motswari and Thulani Hlatshwayo were sold to the Buccaneers. Hunt revealed that Orlando Pirates were interested in his services around 2020 but chose to join Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs instead. After just one season, the former SuperSport United coach was given the boot with just a few matches remaining. 'I would have stayed there longer [if he joined Pirates] because my guys were there and the way Pirates play suited me more, you know,' Hunt said in a podcast. 'Ja, it was going to happen. Maybe I should have gone there, what a bad mistake, you know.' Hunt stated that he did not join Orlando Pirates because he needed a fresh start and wanted to rebuild a team. 'It wasn't about money or anything. At that time, I felt at Chiefs there was in a better rebuilding phase there and we could build another team.' In 2020, Kaizer Chiefs were banned from signing players for two transfer windows following a Fifa punishment in December over the signing of Malagasy player Andriamirado Aro Hasina Andrianamimanana. Hunt joined the club during that time and was unable to bring in new players. 'I was told that the transfer band would be lifted, hey said 'don't worry, we're going to build a new team' and i went 'that's what i want'. I felt that sometimes when your players are going to Pirates, i thought maybe a clean break…let me go and rebuild another team.
