'The View''s Sunny Hostin reacts to Sabrina Carpenter album cover controversy: 'I don't know who she is'
The View cohosts reacted to Sabrina Carpenter's Man's Best Friend album cover controversy.
"I don't know who she is," Sunny Hostin said.
Whoopi Goldberg compared the album cover to a scene from This Is Spinal Tap.The View cohost Sunny Hostin is actually not thinking about Sabrina Carpenter's me espresso — and never has, apparently.
After a small corner of the internet buzzed with blowback to the pop star's irony-laden Man's Best Friend album cover — which sees her on her knees in front of a man — the panelists broke down the reaction by lifting the 26-year-old up. That is, except for Hostin.
After Joy Behar revealed that she got married years ago in the same New York City church Carpenter filmed her "Feather" music video in, Hostin told the audience she's unfamiliar with Carpenter in general.
"I'll admit, I don't know who she is, I've never heard of her music," Hostin said. "I don't know anything about her."
Still, Hostin offered up an opinion on Carpenter's album cover, which some people felt was the antithesis to the feminist themes in Carpenter's lyrics.
"I think that imagery is important. And even if her lyrics are strong and she's a feminist, I just think about young girls seeing that who may not understand," Hostin observed of Carpenter, who has two Grammys and amassed three top-ten hits — including the No. 1 smash "Please Please Please" — over the last year.
Moderator Whoopi Goldberg broke in to tell her colleagues that the controversy reminded her of a scene from This Is Spinal Tap, which saw a character complaining about a "greased, naked woman on all fours with a dog collar around her neck."
Goldberg then praised Carpenter, saying, "The girl is doing her thing, God bless her."
Before the segment ended, Joy Behar also compared Carpenter's cover to provocative works by Madonna and Bette Midler, though she said the latter "would've been pulling his hair" instead of on her knees in front of him."I would've bit him," Goldberg said. "No, no, if you're down there, you bite. You want to look like an angry dog."
Hostin's admission that she doesn't know Carpenter followed Behar's own revelation during a September 2023 episode that she's not familiar with Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.

Sabrina Carpenter Puts Feud Rumors to Rest at Olivia Rodrigo Concert
THE RUNDOWN On Friday, Sabrina Carpenter was seen supporting Olivia Rodrigo at her BST Hyde Park concert in London. Rodrigo was headlining the event and Carpenter could be seen enjoying the music from the VIP section. Both pop stars formerly dated actor Joshua Bassett, leading to longstanding rumors of feuding or competition beginning around 2021, but it seems obvious that both Carpenter and Rodrigo have moved on. Carpenter can be seen in photos shared by the Daily Mail wearing a semi-sheer white baby doll dress and a pair of black-framed glasses. Over one shoulder she wore a red purse and was holding a glass of wine, smiling widely during the show. On stage, Rodrigo wore a black bodysuit with large torso cutouts covered in silver fringe with a pair of black boots. She was later joined on stage by Ed Sheeran. Bassett is rumored to be the subject of Rodrigo's 2021 hit song 'Driver's License,' after they dated while filming the popular show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019. In 2020, Carpenter and Bassett were romantically linked, but they supposedly split in 2021. In her song, Rodrigo sings about 'that blonde girl' who 'made [her] doubt' the relationship. Rodrigo is now dating actor Louis Partridge, who she was first seen with in late 2023. Carpenter has since been linked to Shawn Mendes and Barry Keoghan, and is now supposedly single. In a 2024 interview with ELLE, Partridge dodged a question about whether Rodrigo's song 'So American' was about him, joking, 'Not my song, not my place. So I wouldn't know.' He did share, 'My girlfriend has been trying to get me into more pop recently—Chappell Roan has been on repeat.' He also said that he sees himself as a golden retriever boyfriend type. 'I think in past relationships my mind worked at a different speed to the women I've known,' he said. 'A bit slower. The way I would characterize it is like a Golden Retriever and a black cat. I can imagine being happy sitting and catching a Frisbee.'

Doctor Odyssey Cancelled at ABC After One Season
Doctor Odyssey's ship has sailed: ABC has cancelled the medical drama after a single season. The cast's options for a second season will not be picked up, according to our sister site Deadline, meaning that as of Monday they will be free to book other roles. Though not a formal cancellation, if ABC does eventually want Doc Od to return, producers would need to re-sign all lead actors to new deals. More from TVLine Grosse Pointe Garden Society Cancelled at NBC After One Season The Golden Bachelor's New Star Says He'll Cut Any Women Over Age 60 (He's 66, By the Way) Scott Speedman to Star in RJ Decker Pilot at ABC - What Does This Mean for Grey's Anatomy? Doctor Odyssey Season 1 averaged 4.8 million weekly viewers (with delayed playback). Out of the six dramas that ABC aired this past TV season, it outdrew only Grey's in total viewers. (Back in September, TVLine readers gave the series premiere an average grade of 'C+,' with fewer than 70% planning to stay tuned.) The modern-day Love Boat starred Joshua Jackson as Max Bankman, the onboard doctor of The Odyssey, a cruise ship helmed by Captain Massey (played by Miami Vice's Don Johnson). Dr. Max treated the ship's many medical emergencies alongside nurses Avery (Shining Girls' Phillipa Soo) and Tristan (The Gifted's Sean Teale), but things got messy after the group had a threesome, resulting in plenty of love triangle drama. During the course of its freshman run, the Ryan Murphy series' glitzy look and pandemic origins prompted TVLine to develop the Fever Dream Theory, arguing that Max never recovered from COVID. As we theorized, The Odyssey wasn't a ship it all — it was Heaven, beckoning Max to 'cross over' to the other side. Though said conspiracy was never explicitly confirmed, Jackson did reveal that they 'had a similar theory operating on set.' Is Squid Game getting an American spin-off? Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on June 28, 2025, 20:12 IST Last updated June 28, 2025, 20:15 IST Squid Game took the world by storm, and now that its third and final season hit Netflix on June 27, 2025, fans can't stop talking about what's next. With Seong Gi-hun's story wrapped up, whispers of a spin-off are growing louder. From a surprise cameo in the finale to rumors of a Hollywood heavyweight jumping on board, here's the scoop on whether the Squid Game universe will keep going. The End of the Main Series Let's start with the big news: Squid Game Season 3 is the end of the road for Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has said it plain and simple: 'The story I wanted to tell came to a full closure at the end of season 3' (Entertainment Weekly). The finale delivers a gut-punch ending to the tale of desperate folks battling it out in deadly childhood games for a huge cash prize. But just when you thought the games were over, the show throws in a curveball—a cameo that's got everyone buzzing about a possible spin-off. That Finale Cameo: A Clue to What's Next? Spoiler Alert: If you haven't watched Season 3, skip this part! In the last episode, we get a jaw-dropping moment: a big-name Hollywood star shows up in a scene set in Los Angeles. The Front Man, Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), spots a woman playing ddakji with someone, just like the recruiters did back in Season 1. It's a clear hint that the games aren't just a South Korean thing anymore—they might be going global. Fans are losing it over this, and it's got folks wondering if a new series is in the works, maybe set in the U.S. Netflix hasn't said anything official yet, but this feels like a deliberate tease. A Surprise Cameo Hints at a Spin-Off The hottest rumor out there is about an American version of Squid Game , and it's got a big name attached: David Fincher. Yup, the guy behind Fight Club and Mindhunter . Word on the street—well, more like reports from places like What's on Netflix and The Playlist —is that Netflix has been eyeing an English-language series called Squid Game: America since at least April 2023. Fincher's supposedly directing and producing, with British writer Dennis Kelly ( Utopia ) penning the script. It wouldn't be a remake but a new story in the same universe, with fresh faces and maybe some new twisted games. Here's the catch: Netflix hasn't confirmed it, and Fincher's keeping quiet. Still, Hwang Dong-hyuk sounds thrilled about the idea. He told GamesRadar+, 'As a big fan of David Fincher, I hugely respect a lot of his work. If he actually were to do the spinoff of Squid Game , I personally, as a fan, I am very excited to see what happens.' If Fincher's involved, you know it's gonna be dark, intense, and probably a little unsettling—perfect for Squid Game . Production might kick off in Los Angeles as early as December 2025, according to some reports, but until Netflix gives the green light, it's all speculation. That Season 3 cameo, though? It's making this rumor feel a lot more real. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication .
