(AP Photo) WIMBLEDON — Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Erin Routliffe, of New Zealand, advanced to the third round of women's doubles at Wimbledon with a 6-3, 6-3 win Friday over Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez and Russia's Polina Kudermetova. The No. 2 seeds converted four of 13 break-point chances and won 78 per cent of their second-serve points. Dabrowski and Routliffe are looking to add a second Grand Slam title after winning the 2023 U.S. Open. Routliffe, who grew up near Toronto and lives in Montreal, represents her native New Zealand internationally. The duo also captured the WTA Finals title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last November. Dabrowski, the lone Canadian still competing at Wimbledon, is also competing in mixed doubles with Croatia's Nikola Mektic at the All England Club. Toronto Raptors sign free agent forward-centre Mamukelashvili

Mamukelashvili averaged 6.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 61 games with San Antonio last season. The six-foot-nine native of Tbilisi, Georgia has appeared in 191 NBA games with the Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks. He was a 2021 second-round pick and starred at Seton Hall, earning Big East player of the year. Mamukelashvili recently represented Georgia at the Paris Olympic qualifier and EuroBasket 2022. MILAN (AP-CP) — Canada forward Jonathan David arrived in Italy on Friday for medical tests ahead of an expected transfer to Juventus. Article content A trial with KAA Gent in Belgium came in 2017 after a scout saw him on video. He went to Belgium twice that year, spending time with the second team before earning a full-time invitation. After finishing high school in Ottawa, he returned to Europe to focus full-time on his soccer. Article content David had to wait until he turned 18 in January 2018, before he could sign a pro contract. Article content Asked whether he splurged on anything after signing his new deal, David smiles and shakes his head. Article content 'No, no. I wouldn't say I'm a big spender,' he said at the time. 'I was just pretty happy.' Article content He scored in his league debut for KAA Gent that August with a late equalizer against Zulte-Waregem as a substitute. And he kept scoring off the bench.
