To observe Guru Purnima, a special evening dedicated to Kathak will bring together three generations of disciples from the Jaipur gharana in a tribute to the late Pt. Durga Lal. The event is part of the long-running Ninad concert series and will be held on Sunday, July 13, 7.45pm onwards at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Mumbai.
The programme will open with Nirvana Through Dance, a short film that reflects on the artistic journey of Pt Durga Lal and his contribution to the Jaipur gharana. Produced by senior disciple Uma Dogra and directed by Indrayanee Mukherjee, the film offers a glimpse into the spiritual and aesthetic grounding that shaped his performances.

Following the screening, the concert will feature performances by Kathak artist Uma Dogra, a long-time disciple of Pt.
Durga Lal, along with her student, Dr. Tina Tambe. The evening will also include a group presentation by Tambe's disciples, representing the youngest generation of dancers in the lineage.
The dancers will be accompanied by Satyaprakash Mishra on tabla, Vaibhav Mankad on vocal and harmonium, and Sandeep Mishra on sarangi.
'This is the way parampara grows - when the disciple takes the reins and carries the legacy forward,' said Uma Dogra ahead of the performance.

Dr. Tambe, who will share the stage with her guru and her own students, called the evening 'a sacred offering to Pt Durga Lal ji.' She added, 'To perform with my guru and disciples on Guru Purnima is both emotional and spiritually significant.'
The concert is supported by an institution that offers formal programmes in Indian classical music and dance and shares a similar commitment to preserving traditional arts. Since 2010, the Ninad concert series has presented over 90 artistes and continues to serve as a platform for both senior and emerging performers in the Indian classical space.

However, she expressed dissatisfaction with Mani Ratnam favoring Manisha Koirala. The Kaagaz actor explained that she underwent intense training as per her role, but the filmmaker insisted on hiding her toned biceps as he felt it overshadowed Manisha. Aamir Khan did not like it when Mita Vasisht touched his hair Recalling her experience of working with Aamir Khan, the veteran actor reminisced about how the latter felt bad when she touched his hair during a scene in Ghulam while improvising it. She commented that if she had been a commercial artist, Aamir would not have felt that way. Mita also highlighted that they had very different acting approaches. Mita Vasisht experienced casting couch with a Tamil filmmaker To date, she has been vocal about her journey, shedding light on the highs and lows she went through. Like many other actors, Mita also faced the casting couch with a filmmaker from the Telugu industry. It was when she was attending the Chennai Film Festival that the person in question tried to stop her from leaving the room that they were in. Not only this, but he even chased her outside as she attempted to get into a safer place.

New lights, fountains & sound show: Leisure Valley Park set for revamp

Gurgaon: From fountain renovation and improved lighting to a new open gym and boundary wall, a slew of infrastructure upgrade projects are underway at Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29. The project, undertaken by GMDA and supported by CSR funding, will involve landscaping, beautification work, renovation of fountains, installing streetlights and equipment for a new open gym, along with rebuilding a boundary wall and toilets. With numerous residents flocking to the park everyday and following long-standing complaints about poor maintenance, GMDA has decided to give the park a facelift. Recently, GMDA had floated a tender for 250 steetlights at an estimated cost of Rs 1.4 crore. "The walking paths become pitch dark after sunset. Installing streetlights should have been a priority years ago," said Sudhir Sachdeva, a resident of Sushant Lok-1 and a frequent visitor at the park.
