Ex-Arsenal star subject to vile chants during Real Madrid clash as referee stops match
Former Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos was subjected to vile chants after coming off the bench during Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Getafe on Wednesday, with the referee briefly pausing the game as a result. Ceballos replaced Arda Guler, who scored the only goal of the game, in the 78th minute and the 28-year-old was greeted with chants of "Ceballos, die" from the Getafe fans, according to reports from Spain.
The referee stopped the match due to the chants and spoke to both Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and Getafe manager Jose Bordalas about the incident. An announcement was then made over the PA system calling for the chants to stop and they did, with the game resuming without further incident.
Getafe striker Borja Mayoral, who was previously team-mates with Ceballos at Madrid, condemned the chants in a post-match interview with DAZN. "I think they are not nice for any player," Mayoral said.
"We have to eliminate that from football and sports. Hopefully it doesn't happen again."
Ceballos is not the only Madrid player who has been subjected to chants of "die" this season, with defender Raul Asencio targeted by Real Sociedad fans during their Copa del Rey clash back in February.
Madrid won the game 1-0, but Ancelotti substituted Asencio at half-time as he felt the 21-year-old has been "affected" by the chants. Speaking after the match, Ancelotti explained: "Vinicius spoke to the referee, the referee stopped the game, he applied the protocol, that was what had to happen.
"I took him off because of two things, he was affected, and he had a yellow card, so I preferred to take him off. I think nobody likes that a stadium chants for you to die, I think he was affected in that sense. He wasn't exactly happy, I preferred to take him off in case how he was feeling could affect the game."
Sociedad captain Mikel Oyarzabal added: "The insults should be condemned, we don't like them... there are other ways to condemn the actions that others may have committed. We don't think this is the right way."
Madrid's win over Getafe leaves them four points behind rivals Barcelona in the La Liga title race. However, both David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga picked up injuries during the game and Ancelotti has admitted they are unlikely to be back in time for the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.
"We'll have to see tomorrow," Ancelotti said when asked if Camavinga could feature in the final against Barcelona. "He and Alaba both had muscular discomfort. Recovery for Saturday will be difficult.
"It's a final. Maybe there's a favourite, but in a final, anything can happen."

Revealed: Secret 'texts' between Marcus Rashford and Lamine Yamal - and how his signing has been received in the Barcelona dressing room
Marcus Rashford had been been texting Lamine Yamal and other Barcelona players in the months ahead of his Spanish move, it has been revealed. The 27-year-old forward was officially unveiled as the latest additional to Hansi Flick's star-studded squad on Wednesday following weeks of speculation. Rashford beamed with pride as he stood with his new No 14 shirt, inspired by Barca great Thierry Henry, telling journalists it will be a 'joy' to play for the LaLiga champions. It was no secret that the former Manchester United outcast had desired a move to Catalonia as early as January, when Ruben Amorim told him to find a new club. Before he sealed a loan move to Aston Villa at the end of the window, Rashford's representatives met with Barcelona bosses in Lisbon about the prospect of a deal. An agreement could not be struck due to the club's already hefty wage bill, The Athletic revealed. The winger, who will no doubt be eyeing a place in England 's World Cup squad next year, later went public with his desire to join Barca. When asked by Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz whether he would like to play with Lamine Yamal in June, he replied: 'Of course I'd love to. Everyone wants to play with the best.' It has now been revealed that the duo - who could be lining up on opposite wings come August - have been texting in recent months. Yamal and his Barcelona teammates were reportedly 'fully' aware of Rashford's eagerness to join their squad. And this week he at last got his wish, with the star putting pen to paper on a season-long loan deal which gives Barcelona the option to make it permanent next season for £30million. The completion of the long-awaited move was reportedly received well by the Barcelona squad, who gave Rashford a warm reception upon his arrival. A source inside the dressing room told The Athletic: 'If you see the pure raw skill set he has... boof, it is top class, top class. 'But here he will have to run. I don't know what went wrong at Manchester United, but if you are a striker and don't run off the ball and when the team are counter-pressing, you are done here.' At his unveiling, Rashford admitted 'it was not difficult' when he heard Barca were interested. 'I was clear on my preference from the very beginning,' he said. 'Actually maybe from January, but it didn't work out in January so I went to Aston Villa and I enjoyed a good period there. 'The summer came around quickly and again it was time to make another decision. My choice was easy. 'One, it's a family club, something I am used to from my past. It feels like home, I feel like I've made the right decision. I am excited to get going and play the first game and play in front of the fans/ 'To play for this football club is a special moment for me and I'm ready to get going.' It was thought that if a move to Spain had not materialised, Rashford's preference would have been to stay at Manchester United. But it's perhaps unlikely that new boss Ruben Amorim would have welcomed him back after the pair's very public fallout over Rashford's performances in training before Christmas. Rashford did not bite when asked about United on Wednesday nevertheless, saying: 'The situation with [Manchester] United - the club is in a period of change and they have been for a while. 'I don't have anything bad to say about Man United. It's been an important part of not only my career but my life, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to play for them. 'But football is the same as life, and not everything goes as simple as you may think. 'This is my next step, my next chapter, and I'm fully focused on this and trying to improve myself and help the team win trophies. 'I don't have anything to say about United, I hope they are successful in the future. I'm focused here and I'm ready to play and experience this club.' He joins a star-studded forward line at the club and will no doubt have to impress in order to dislodge one of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski or Lamine Yamal. Yamal played 35 times for the Catalan club last season in LaLiga, netting nine goals and providing 15 assists. While Raphinha - the Englishman's other main rival on the wing - netted 18 and provided 11 assists. Rashford's Premier League campaign saw him bag six and set-up four in 25 appearances for Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford immediately given strict new Barcelona dressing room rule to follow
Marcus Rashford was all smiles in his introduction as a new Barcelona player but the England star will have to abide by Hansi Flick's newest strict rule at the Spanish club Marcus Rashford is expected to curb nightlife proclivities after Hansi Flick demanded his Barcelona side keep their partying activities to a minimum. The 27-year-old officially joined the La Liga champions on loan from Manchester United on Wednesday in his first foray into football outside of the UK. Describing the move as a "dream come true", Rashford was handed the number 14 shirt, the same number Arsenal icon Thierry Henry wore during his trophy-laden spell in Catalonia over 15 years ago. While the Englishman will be keen to get his career back on track after a troublesome couple of years at his boyhood club, he'll have to do so while abiding by Flick's stringent rules that he's established at Barcelona. The Spanish giants enjoyed a hugely successful campaign last season, where they won the domestic treble consisting of the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. It may not be a coincidence that the abundance of silverware came after Flick's implementation of 10 strict rules, according to Spanish publication AS. There's since been one more rule added to the German's manager's list and that's to limit the amount of parties his players attend, reports Sport. Given the controversy Lamine Yamal found himself in after it was claimed entertainers with dwarfism had attended his lavish 18th birthday celebration, Flick is keen to avoid the added spotlight on his squad. While it's reported Flick hasn't banned players altogether from enjoying nights out on the town, he's said to have requested his players to have more discretion when doing so while having a greater focus on their footballing responsibilities. Avoiding cameras and attention in the newspapers is of paramount importance for Flick who aims to mount a strong title defence as well as bringing the Champions League trophy back to Barcelona for the first time since 2015. During his announcement as Barca's latest signing, Rashford explained why he chose to move to Spain as he said: "I'm very excited. It's a club where people's dreams come true. They win big prizes and what the clubs stands for really means a lot to me. "It feels like I'm at home and this is a big factor in my choice to come here, because it's a family club, people are comfortable here and it's a good place for players to showcase their skills. I want to say thank you for the warm welcome. It's a different environment for me but it feels like home. "I'm full of excitement and hunger to go out and help this club win. They won so much last year and I can see the ambition is to do better than last year and that is what you want to hear as a player. "It keeps you improving year on year and that's what you need to be - the best version of yourself. So I'm very excited to be here, eager to get the games going and I'm enjoying every minute of it."
