A new kind of carrot salad has gone viral on social media, but it's nothing like the classic grated carrot and pineapple salad I grew up with.
This new viral salad features delicate ribbons of carrot with a yummy, tangy dressing.
The viral carrot ribbon salad, made famous by TikTok creators like Cassie Yeung, shows how a few simple ingredients and a cool look can go a long way.
All you do is use a vegetable peeler to turn carrots into long, thin ribbons, making a dish that looks great and is fun to eat.

But the real secret is in the dressing. It's light, zesty, and full of flavour, and typically includes ingredients like: Soy sauce and rice wine vinegar for a savoury and tangy kick
Toasted sesame oil for a nutty taste
Grated garlic and ginger for a fresh, spicy flavour
A touch of honey or maple syrup for sweetness
Some chilli crisp for crunch and heat
It's easy to see why the salad has gone viral.
It looks great for those food Insta posts, and it's so simple to make. The hardest part of making this simple salad is peeling the carrots!
While it looks and tastes amazing, there's a health benefit from eating it, and people are calling it 'edible skincare' because carrots are so good for you.
Carrots are packed with vitamins and minerals that offer a whole bunch of benefits.
The humble veggie is loaded with beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant that our bodies turn into Vitamin A, which is important for healthy skin, helping to repair tissue and protect against sun damage.
We all know that, as mom used to say, it's good eyesight, especially in dim light.
The antioxidants in carrots, along with those in garlic and ginger, help fight off bad stuff in your body and protect your cells.
Carrots are rich in fibre, which helps with digestion and keeps you feeling full.
Next time you want to impress your friends when inviting them over for dinner, wow them with this simple and tasty salad.

Bridget Masinga's journey: turning loss into light with a heartfelt pregnancy reveal
This week, beloved South African broadcaster and actress Bridget Masinga broke that silence with a message of grace, strength, and vulnerability that resonates deeply within the hearts of many Image: Bridget Masinga/Instagram In a world where pregnancy announcements often flood our social feeds with joy and perfect bump pictures, the quieter stories of loss are often left in the shadows. But this week, beloved South African broadcaster and actress Bridget Masinga broke that silence with grace, strength and vulnerability. Her pregnancy announcement, shared on August 4, was more than just another celebrity reveal; it was a poignant reminder of the long, heartbreaking road some women travel to motherhood. With a heartfelt Instagram caption, quoting Isaiah 60:22, Masinga wrote, "When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen." The post, which included a striking maternity shoot by Gareth Jacobs, quickly went viral. Fans and friends alike, including media personalities Minnie Dlamini, Duma Ntando, Moshe Ndiki, Sarah Langa and DJ Zinhle, flooded the comments with congratulations and prayers of gratitude. But behind this joyful moment lies a journey marked by deep grief and unimaginable resilience. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Speaking the unspoken truth of miscarriage Miscarriage remains a painful and often taboo topic. It's whispered about, rarely posted, and often misunderstood, even though an estimated 10 - 20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, according to the National Health Institute. And the stigma around miscarriage is still heavily rooted in silence, shame, and isolation. Masinga has never shied away from the truth. Years before this announcement, in 2018, she bravely shared on social media that she had lost not one, but three pregnancies, each one a silent heartbreak carried quietly while the world moved on. She spoke candidly about the emotional toll it took on her, her relationship, and her faith. 'We lost our second pregnancy, lost my faith and my trust and found myself in a dark place fighting my way back to the light,' she wrote. 'Time doesn't heal all wounds; you just learn to live through it.' These raw admissions resonated deeply with many South African women who have gone through the same multiple times with no real support system, and often, no language to express their grief. Masinga's decision to publicly share her story has opened a much-needed conversation around pregnancy loss, grief, healing, and hope. For many women, especially black women, these experiences are often minimised, dismissed, or spiritualised to the point of emotional neglect. A 2020 study published in the Journal of Health Psychology found that Black women face increased emotional burden from pregnancy loss, often compounded by societal expectations to be strong and resilient. Masinga's vulnerability offers a counter-narrative. Her story tells women: You're not alone. Your grief is real. Your hope is valid. Research shows that the grief associated with miscarriage can resemble that of other loss forms. 'Miscarriage is a traumatic event. It represents the loss of a future, a dream, and too often, a fragment of identity as a woman. What aids healing is acknowledgement, not silence; support, not shame,' experts affirm. Masinga's own words reflect this: 'I truly believe that one day, I will be blessed with the greatest love of all … but until then, I will not lose faith. Faith has been an anchor for her, but so has community. Her post was met with a wave of love, not just from industry peers but from strangers who had followed her journey and seen parts of themselves in it. Congratulations to her and hers; her story is important. It shows that not all paths to motherhood are linear, and not every woman's body story fits the perfect narrative of 'we tried, and then we were pregnant.'

While many celebrities in SA choose the international route, Ntshangase, however, chose a local surgeon, Professor Chrysis Sofianos, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Johannesburg. She continued: 'Now let's get to it. I'm not normally regular even if I have a high fibre diet, kunzima nje (it's tough), so I've always struggled even after my c-sections. 'WOWZA, after many days, everything finally worked (TMI). Day 1, when I got home, I thought, Mxm, I got this. I don't know what the fuss was about. A lot of people scared me, but Google did the most scarring,' Ntshangase shared. The 40-year-old went on to reveal how she thought that procedure for her was not as painful as a lot of people have described it to be. She shared that even though the post-op journey has been a little difficult, she is loving the results already. 'However, I look in the mirror and I'm like DAMN gal. Even I wasn't ready for this snatchness. Even though there's some swelling, I'm loving the results already,' she said. On Sunday, July 27, 'The Mommy Club' star excitedly announced that she will be going under the knife; however, she did not disclose what kind of cosmetic procedure she will be doing. She cited that she is doing the procedure as a part of her healing and self-love journey, and having four pregnancies in the past affected her confidence, self-image, and made her feel insecure. 'So I've had four pregnancies, which resulted in five kids that includes the twins. So I've gained weight, and it was this, it was that. 'And just not exercising as often as I would have wanted, just a whole lot of insecurities that I have, and I just decided to take the plunge and be brave and do what I've always wanted to do, which is to work on my body and work on myself,' she said. Ntshangase is now the latest celebrity to have had cosmetic procedures done in SA. She joins the likes of Nonkanyiso 'Laconco' Conco, Simphiwe Ngema, Shamiso Mosaka and Khanyi Mbau.

How Sihle's R320 gown became a dream come true Sihle Gabela, 39, from Vosloorus, Johannesburg, told that she was initially hesitant to browse wedding dresses on Temu. As a technical‑support agent at an ISP, she and her partner had planned their civil registration wedding at Home Affairs on a tight budget. After meeting in 2003 and doing their traditional ceremony in 2020, they knew a grand wedding wasn't financially viable with four children, including a baby. Video Player is loading. To her delight, that price dropped to R320 by the time she checked out. Sihle couldn't believe her luck at the bargain price and how it looked. Her family's reaction was priceless.
