Cierra Ortega's parents have broken their silence following their daughter's sudden exit from Love Island USA.
Newsweek reached out to Ortega's representative via email for comment on Monday.
The Context
Love Island USA is a reality television show based on the British series Love Island. The U.S. version first premiered in 2019 and is hosted by Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix.
Per Peacock, the series is "a real-time dating competition featuring a group of sexy singles living in a tropical villa who must try to win the $100K prize by coupling up and surviving to the end."
What To Know
On Sunday, narrator Iain Stirling revealed during Season 7, Episode 30 that Ortega was no longer on Love Island USA.
"Welcome back to Love Island USA, Cierra has left the villa due to a personal situation, leaving Nic [Vansteenberghe] officially single," Stirling said in a voice-over on July 6, Deadline reported.
Vansteenberghe was Ortega's love interest on the show, and they had been dating exclusively for several episodes.
In the scene following Stirling's announcement, Vansteenberghe said: "Right before Cierra had left, my mind was clear. I knew what the future would look like, and now I'm lost. I think now that my strongest connection is gone, there's like—just figure it out from here."

The news comes following backlash Ortega received over an alleged social media post that resurfaced online, in which she used a racial slur toward the Asian community. However, no official reason for her departure has been confirmed.
Prior to Ortega leaving Love Island USA, a Change.org petition calling for her removal garnered over 17,000 signatures. On Wednesday, she lost over 162,800 Instagram followers, and on Thursday, she lost an additional 47,800 followers, according to statistics from Social Blade.
Earlier in the season, contestant Yulissa Escobar was booted from the program for using the N-word on a podcast.
"Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced, and I want to address it directly," Escobar wrote in an apology on Instagram after her exit. "In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur. I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn't trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn't excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use."

What People Are Saying
Cierra Ortega's parents spoke out about their daughter's Love Island USA departure via her Instagram Stories: "As Cierra's parents, this has been one of the most painful weeks of our lives. We've seen the posts, the headlines, the hurt and the hate. And while Cierra hasn't seen any of it yet, we have. And so have the people who love her."
"We're not here to justify or ignore what's surfaced. We understand why people are upset, and we know accountability matters. But what's happening online right now has gone far beyond that."
"The threats. The cruel messages. The attacks on her family, her friends, even her supporters, it's heartbreaking. It's uncalled for. And no one deserves that kind of hate, no matter what mistake they've made."
"While Cierra is not in the villa anymore, she is still away. She hasn't had the chance to process any of this or speak for herself. But we know our daughter. We know her heart. And when she returns, we believe she'll face this with honesty, growth, and grace."
"While she'll always be our little girl, she's also a woman, one who will take responsibility in her own time and her own voice. Until then, we're simply asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency. Not just for her, but for everyone caught in the middle of this. Thank you to those who've continued to show love, even when it's not easy. – With love, Her family."
What Happens Next?
Love Island USA Season 7 airs new episodes daily, except on Wednesdays, at 9 p.m. ET on Peacock.

5 Bob Haircut Trends Everyone Is Asking For This Summer

courtesy of spoke and weal NY Here's the thing about a good haircut: It only takes one photo to spark inspiration. If you're feeling a little lost this summer, we're here to help. Bob haircuts are particularly fun because if you've been a Refinery29 reader for a while you know, we appreciate the often imperceptible but critical details that make an Italian bob different from a French bob (the former is more cropped to the ears, and the latter is often structural and includes a bang). Here, we're breaking down the top bob trends of the moment — for summer 2025 — in hopes that they might inspire your next appointment. Find our predictions with imagery for you to save and expert styling advice, ahead. Carved bob View this post on Instagram A post shared by Spoke & Weal (@spokeandweal) The technique used to create a carved bob gives the hair a very lived-in look, "similar to when you cut hair using a razor," explains hairstylist Amanda Lee. The cut, which is purposefully grown-out with tapered ends, was popular in 2018 and 2019 and is seeing a resurgence. "It's a creative cut based on removing weight and creating layers that provide lift and movement into the hair," explains hairstylist Cassadi Currier. Flipped bob View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lindsey Neavitt (@lindseyneavitt901) Many stylists track the origins of the flipped bob back to the '60s. "It had a very retro feel," explains Lee. "Jackie Kennedy is the first name to come to mind when I think of the flipped bob." There's an innate elegance to this style but it's pretty versatile. The current variation is cut short, maybe slightly asymmetrical, and has some polish. For styling, Lee recommends using a hot brush (like the Mane Medium Hot Brush, $98) to give your hair a good flip on the ends and a smoothing balm (she prefers the Emi Jay Angelstick, $38) to polish any flyaways. Fluffy bob View this post on Instagram A post shared by DECEMBER FULLY BOOKED (@hairbyanaiss) A fluffy or "soft-sweeping layered bob" is a modern favorite among stylists. "It's one of my favorite types of bob haircuts," says Currier, "and I love that most of them have a deep-set side part." Lee considers the fluffy bob a modern version of a classic cut. "The fluffy bob is really just a modern take on the classic bob shape, giving it more volume and movement," she says. To style, she recommends a big round brush, a round brush blow dryer, or a round brush attachment (if you're using a Dyson). Japanese bob View this post on Instagram A post shared by 菊池 洵 / 美容師 (@jun__kikuchi) "The Japanese bob is also a chin-length bob that really hugs the curvature of the face," says Currier. "This bob is usually parted in the middle and has gorgeous sweeping layers that go away from the face with blunt ends." The name comes from the country of origin and inspiration. In Japanese hair salons, this is just a short bob. For styling a Japanese bob, Currier recommends using a flat iron and "beveling" sections, curving the hair under. But for the pieces around the face, "you're going to want to direct the flat iron forward in the opposite direction and sweep backward towards the ear to give a bit of a curved, sweeping look to the fringe," she explains. Bitchy bob View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jenna Perry Hair Studio (@jennaperryhairstudio) This bob is fun. It's polished, one-length, and hits right at the corners of the mouth. It has some high-fashion edge and attitude, which is likely why hairstylist Jordan Luger at Jenna Perry Salon in NYC calls it the "bitchy bob." If you're thinking of inching up this summer, this is a charming way to go about it.

'Harry Potter' star Jason Isaacs slams 'racist' criticism of series star Paapa Essiedu

Jason Isaacs isn't here for all the muggle back talk. The "Harry Potter" alum, who played Lucius Malfoy in the wizarding drama franchise, weighed in on the controversy surrounding Paapa Essiedu's casting in the upcoming HBO series adaptation of the films. Essiedu, 35, is set to portray Hogwarts professor and Slytherin head Severus Snape, originally played by Emmy-winning actor Alan Rickman. Isaacs, 62, took aim at the racially charged criticism against Essiedu, whose dark complexion differs from that of the original Snape. The British actor, born and raised in London, is of Ghanaian descent. "Paapa Essiedu is one of the best actors I've ever seen in my life," Isaacs said during a July 5 panel discussion at Fan Expo Denver moderated by Collider. "I've seen some people online who are being rude about him. What they're being is racist." Meet your new Harry Potter: HBO series casts Harry, Ron and Hermione HBO's "Harry Potter" series, which does not yet have a release date, will be a new adaptation of the bestselling children's book series by J.K. Rowling, which was made into a hit film series in the 2000s that starred Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. Rowling serves as executive producer on the show. Dominic McLaughlin is set to play orphan-turned-boy-wizard Harry Potter, while Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley. "All the cast of the new Harry Potter TV series are amazing," Isaacs told Collider. Critics "will be swallowing their tongues, hopefully — you know, their digital tongues — when they see what (Paapa) does on screen." 10 bingeable memoirs to check out: Celebrities tell all about aging, marriage and Beyoncé Essiedu, known for his roles in "I May Destroy You," "Black Mirror" and "The Outrun," shared his excitement at joining the magical world of "Harry Potter" in an April Instagram post announcing his casting. The actor affectionately signed off the post's caption as "Professor Snape." "An honor and a privilege to be going on this journey with these legends," Essiedu wrote at the time. "We shall eat, and we shall leave no crumbs. See you at Hogwarts." Contributing: Brendan Morrow, USA TODAY

‘Love Island USA' contestant Cierra Ortega exits the show after resurfaced social media posts cause stir

'Love Island USA' contestant Cierra Ortega is no longer looking for love on the reality program. Ortega's exit, which came a week before the dating show's Season 7 finale, was announced in a voiceover that said she left the show for a 'personal situation,' without any further explanation. The timing was notable because last week, two social media posts from 2015 and 2023 began circulating online that appeared to show Ortega using a racial slur while contemplating cosmetic procedures she wanted to get, according to the Daily Mail. Asked about Ortega's exit, a representative for Peacock, the platform on which 'Love Island USA' streams, told CNN, 'We won't be providing a comment.' On social media, Ortega's parents spoke out about the 'cruel messages' that their daughter has received on social media during the past week and leading up to her abrupt departure from the show during Sunday's episode. 'We've seen the posts, the headlines, the hurt and the hate. And while Cierra hasn't seen any of it yet, we have. And so have the people who love her,' the statement, posted to Ortega's Instagram story Sunday night, read. 'We're not here to justify or ignore what's surfaced. We understand why people are upset, and we know accountability matters. But what's happening online right now has gone far beyond that.' Ortega's parents continued to write that the 'threats' to her friends, family and supporters are 'uncalled for' and that 'no one deserves that kind of hate, no matter what mistake they've made.' Over 17,000 people signed an online petition calling for her exit from the series. Since Ortega is still sequestered following her exit, her parents wrote in their statement, 'she hasn't had the chance to process any of this or speak for herself.' 'But we know our daughter. We know her heart. And when she returns, we believe she'll face this with honesty, growth, and grace,' they added. 'Until then, we're simply asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency.' Love Island USA will conclude its season on July 13.
