Arizona hires former WNBA player Michelle Marciniak as women's basketball GM
Marciniak will handle program operations, staffing, roster management, global recruiting and NIL development for the program that recently hired Becky Burke as head coach.

'I'm truly honored to step into the GM role at Arizona,' Marciniak said in a statement Thursday. 'This opportunity brings together everything I care deeply about — the business of basketball, leadership, and building something meaningful alongside others. I've been shaped by a championship mindset, and I'm committed to contributing in a way that honors the incredible foundation already in place.
Marciniak played under Hall of Fame coach Pat Summitt from 1993-96, earning consecutive trips to the Final Four and a national championship in 1996, when she was named most outstanding player. She played six seasons in the WNBA and ABL before landing a job as an assistant at South Carolina, where she helped recruit Burke.
Marciniak co-founded performance bedding company SHEEX, spending 17 years as the company's CEO. She becomes one of a handful of GMs in women's college basketball and the second hired this year, joining Cal's Meghin Williams.

She's been hit with seven technical fouls. However, once she hits eight technical fouls, she'll receive a one-game WNBA suspension. Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky are working on getting some of Reese's technical fouls reversed, which could give her some breathing room heading into the second half of the season. Sky head coach Tyler Marsh spoke out about the situation on Sunday. "We've done our work on our side to try to get a couple of those rescinded in the moment and beyond, and that's up to the league's discretion," Marsh said. "I think, across the board, it's part of the entertainment of the game. It's hard to control the passion in the heat of the moment." Reese, even suspended for one game, would be a major blow to the Chicago Sky. She's been playing very well as of late, averaging 13.8 points per game to go along with 12.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals. She made the WNBA All-Star Game for the second year in a row. The Sky, meanwhile, have been struggling. They're 7-18 on the season. Chicago will need to make some big moves in the season's final months to make a playoff push. Hopefully, for the Chicago Sky's sake, they won't lose Angel Reese for a game - or more - due to a WNBA suspension. The Kansas City Royals and pitcher Seth Lugo agree to 2-year extension, AP source says
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals and right-hander Seth Lugo have agreed to a two-year extension that includes a vesting option for the 2028 season, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Sunday night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal, which presumably takes one of the most talked-about names on the trade market off the table ahead of this week's deadline, had not been officially announced. The 35-year-old Lugo made his first All-Star Game and won his first Gold Glove last season, when he went 16-9 with a 3.00 ERA in the first year of a two-year, $30 million deal that included a player option for next season. Lugo has followed that up with an even better start to this season, going 7-5 with a 2.95 ERA through 19 outings for Kansas City. Rumors surfaced of several contenders interested in trading for Lugo ahead of Thursday's deadline, and the fact that the Royals have been hanging on the fringe of contention themselves left many wondering whether they would be buyers or sellers. It appears that they are going to make a push for a second consecutive playoff appearance. The Royals acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk from the Diamondbacks for reliever Andrew Hoffmann late Saturday, shoring up a weakness in the lineup by adding a right-handed bat. Now, they have indicated that Lugo remains big a part of their future with his extension — an especially timely one given it came the same day that All-Star pitcher Kris Bubic went on the injured list.
