MDU and ITC Hotels launch India's first apprenticeship embedded degree programme in hospitality and tourism
ROHTAK: In a significant academic-industry collaboration, Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ITC Hotels' Classic Golf & Country Club, launching India's first Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) in hospitality and tourism under the public university framework, aligned with the UGC Guidelines 2025.
The MoU was formally exchanged between Dr. Krishan Kant Gupta, Registrar, MDU, and Pradeep Kumar, Executive Vice President, ITC Hotel Classic Golf Country Club in the august presence of Prof. Rajbir Singh, Vice Chancellor, MDU. Under this collaboration, two skill-integrated undergraduate programmes—BBA (Hospitality & Services Management) and BBA (Tourism, Travel & Events Management)—will be introduced, each with an annual intake of 30 students.
These four-year programmes follow a hybrid model, with the first two years dedicated to academic coursework at MDU, and the latter two years structured as an industry apprenticeship at ITC's Classic Golf & Country Club. The curriculum will be co-designed with ITC professionals to ensure alignment with evolving industry standards.
"This initiative marks a new era in skill-based education. Through this collaboration, MDU is pioneering a model that bridges academia and industry, nurturing career-ready professionals," said Prof.

Army's Central Command flags off 2000km Himalayan motorcycle expedition to celebrate Op Sindoor
Dehradun: The Indian Army 's Central Command on Friday flagged off a 25-member motorcycle expedition, covering a distance of around 2000 km, to remote areas of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. The rally celebrates the success of Operation Sindoor and aims to share stories of Kargil heroes with students and youths to motivate and encourage them to join the armed forces. Public relations officer (Defence), Dehradun, Lt Col Manish Srivastava said the expedition will cover several Himalayan areas – including Gauchar, Joshimath, Rattana Kona, Mana, Niti Pass, Rimkhim, Kurktui, and Thagla – and conclude in Roorkee. "The expedition endeavours to pay tributes to our fallen heroes while showcasing the uncharted beauty of the Himalayas. It aims to honour the Kargil war heroes, celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor, and inspire local youth to join the Indian armed forces. Assam Univ & Tocklai sign MoU for tea research
1 2 Silchar: Assam University, Silchar signed an MoU with the Tocklai Tea Research Institute, Jorhat to foster collaboration in tea research. The MoU aims to enhance the quality and production of tea through academic and scientific cooperation. The agreement was formalised on Friday in the presence of Assam University vice-chancellor Rajive Mohan Pant. The MoU was signed by Venkatesan Selvaraj, director of Tocklai, and Pradosh Kiran Nath, registrar of Assam University. Terming the development a "landmark step" in the field of collaborative research, Pant said the partnership would open new avenues for academic and industrial engagement in the tea sector. "This MoU will not only expand the scope of research but also improve the overall quality and productivity of tea. Detailed guidelines will soon be finalised through mutual agreement," the VC added. As per the terms of the agreement, researchers and students from Assam University will be allowed access to the state-of-the-art laboratories at Tocklai Tea Research Institute. City's Multi-Modal Transport Hub Gets Green Light, State Clears Land-Use Change Near Station
Nagpur: Maharashtra govt formally sanctioned changes to Nagpur's city development plan, clearing the decks for the much-delayed Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH) near railway station. The project, intended to integrate bus, Metro, rail, and commercial services, now gained traction with the official conversion of key land parcels from public and institutional use into commercial zone. The decision was notified by the urban development department on July 28 and disclosed to the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court on Thursday. During the hearing, Justices Mukulika Jawalkar and Praveen Patil were informed that the land earmarked for the Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh state road transport corporations, along with a portion occupied by Nehru Model High School in Mouza Sitabuldi, would now be part of the MMTH layout. The court was also told that these lands were reclassified for commercial use in line with the revised development plan. The move follows the civic body's earlier failure to reserve space for vendors displaced by the demolition of an old flyover near the station, prompting the court to question the govt's "contradictory stance" on rehabilitation. The sanctioned notification imposes three conditions before execution: A no objection certificate (NOC) from the defence department for overlapping land; legal compliance with pending litigation regarding MPSRTC land (Writ Petition No. 609/2019); and NOCs from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and Railways. MahaMetro was directed to respond within three weeks on acquisition procedures, and the state govt must also clarify funding provisions. The govt stated, "Lands so released are shown as 'Multi-Modal Transport Hub' as per the sanctioned plan." The updated zoning map is open for public inspection at the NMC commissioner's office for one month.
